That's batshit stupid. It's difficult to stomach we still live in a time were certain companies (*cough* Nintendo) are resistant to the concept of Let's Playing. I can understand the view that LPs might take away an incentive to buy solely story-driven games and narrative works like VNs and I know that they're within their rights, but its still a punch to the stomach of the fan communities behind the games. Your projects add a lot to this forum andI hope you'll continue to enrich the community here with them, Ren. This place wouldn't be the same without all the hard work you put into it.

A Quick/Short Survey ~What category of VN player you belong to?~
nohman replied to Christfall's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Only translated/partially translated VNs only. I know myself well enough that I can say learning Japanese will probably be something I'll never be able to do. It'd be nice sure, but I'd never be able to sustain the willpower or commitment it would require to get done. Unfortunately, I'm the kind of person who prefers instant gratification over enjoying the fruits from a sustained effort. -
I really need to go back and reread some of G-senjou. I don't remember Tsubaki's bad ending at all. The only bad end that ended up standing out in my head was Mizuha's.
-
Agreed. His entire personality is like something a middle schooler would imagine to be a cool, edgy adult.

I don't know, as someone who used to play a lot of competitive battles and hence had to breed and train a lot of different pokemon (even multiples of the same one), streamlining the IV breeding and EV training is a godsend. It helps break down the largest barrier to entry to the competitive battling scene: time. As for mega-evolutions: Yeah it's possible. There's a button in the battle menu for it separate from the item menu. Mega-Mawile (my favorite new pokemon ) just recently got banned from the OU tier on smogon actually.
-
The Kalos league is probably the easiest out of all the games, but the game has all kinds of neat little features that makes it pretty fun. The competitive online battling side of things is still the competitive online battling side of things, but with the good fortune that IV breeding and EV training is significantly easier/quicker.

Why not both? You can have powerful bad endings that make you regret your choice. The thing about bad ends working as a punishment is that you rarely see VNs (at least out of all the translated ones I've played) that sufficiently strikes a balance between an obvious bad end flag and one that's entirely obscure. I don't know if I've ever accidentally wandered into a bad end where I felt like it was entirely due to my poor choices.
-
Bad endings should add value to a visual novel. They can be exciting, excruciatingly sad, funny, horribly twisted -- or all of the above. Bad endings can be cathartic. Amane's for example: Other examples of well executed bad endings would be almost the entirety of F/SN.
-
How'd you like Sachi's bad end? I seriously started laughing because of how ridiculously bad it was.
-
The guy who's claiming to have done it has a twitter here. If all this is true, I really hope it doesn't get too much attention given that guys message. It'd be nice if people didn't further come to associate visual novels with "simulated rape and child porn."

Found this on r/visualnovels, didn't look like it had been posted here. Looks like Mangagamer's database was comprimised. I'm not certain of the veracity of that post, but I thought I'd put it out there. Has anyone else gotten an e-mail to this effect?

Let me direct you to this topic for plenty of AMV goodness: What are you favourite AMVs?

Oh yeah, I get that. One choice puts her in the exact place in time to get hit by a car. It makes sense. That doesn't make it a good set of choices though. Neither choice has any meaningful connection to the conclusion or can be anticipated. It simply comes down to coincidence.
-
Sachi's was good in the sense that it gave her perspective on what to focus on in tackling her guilt, but it ultimately had nothing to do with Yuuji giving her the key or her getting soap opera'd. Michiru's is definitely worse though.
-
Both Sachi and Michiru's choices were pretty bad tbh. Amane's, Yumiko's, and Makina's were more meaningful and had a clearer line of consequence.
-
I agree, I wasn't suggesting the good end was farfetched, unrealistic, or the worse of the two endings. I was commenting on how it made sense that running away was the bad end, though it hardly warrants that distinction. EDIT: Oh, I think you were commenting on what edwd2 said. My mistake.

I finally wrapped up Grisaia yesterday morning by finishing Michiru's route. The shortest route ended up taking me the longest to finally getting around to completing, but I liked it overall. If I had to rank the routes I'd go: Amane > Sachi > Michiru > Yumiko > Makina. The middle three are pretty close in how much I enjoyed them really. I'm inking out a partly lengthy set of thoughts on the entire game in my free time between classes. Might end up posting it in Down's topic if I'm satisfied that it's coherent enough. Cause if it's one thing that Fuwanovel needs, it's more discussion on GnK. I also decided to go ahead and finish the common route + Chisato on Koichoco before I move onto my next full game. It's been like two weeks since I booted it up, so I'll probably just reread the thing from the beginning.

I don't know, there's a lot of amusing ads now a days and his channel is decently popular; I can see the incentive in it.

Yeah, I find that is the case as well. Given some time with a visual novel, I usually either start to find a VNs artwork charming in its own way or at least I'm able to better stomach it. I wouldn't say it is far more important in terms of enjoyability. From a marketing stand point maybe, but if a game is going to keep my attention, short or long, it needs to have a decent narrative. In my mind, visuals complement the game's story, helping us better visualize what's going and creating an impression for us so that we don't have to solely rely on our imagination. If it's helping us imagine some shitty, poorly conceived scenario then I don't really see the point.

Welcome to the community. I'm a business student, I resell things I buy at yard sales and thrift stores for a profit, and my first visual novel was G-senjou no Maou about 3 years ago. Enjoy the time you spend here and I hope to see you around the forums.

Male or Female Male General Description of your Characters Looks -Short to medium length brown hair -Hazel eyes (or green, I don't remember the character maker that well) -Pale Skin Name of Character (keep similar to forum name please) Noah Macmanus Life Goals If you want a lifetime wish: Become CEO of a Mega-Corporation If you want some flavorful things: -Acquire the perfect hat -Marry into wealth -Finish that novel I've always been working on -Grow and nurture a bitchin' garden -Don't die in a house fire

Bad CGs and artwork are a sizable minus for me, but I won't completely dismiss a game on that basis. The most important element to me is the narrative, something that pretty artwork can help better convey. I'd much rather play an ugly game with a great story than a terrible one that looks good.
