  1. Can't wait. This will be awesome.
  2. This indicates to me that you were not using Anki or not using it correctly. SRS learning makes it impossible for information to simply stay in the short term. After reading Ryoji's blog and how he's managed to power through nearly 1000 of them with mind-clouding medication (plus my own experience and the others on the site), I'm 100% behind SRS. I'm a believer. Now, I'm not saying that you need to change your new plan. Not at all! I just want to suggest you keep using Anki. SRS is the most effective way to learn (I use it in all my college classes now, and will keep using it in Medical School next year). I encourage you to brainstorm how you can incorporate it into your new study plan. Thanks for posting your new plan. We'll be here to keep cheering you on ; )!
  3. In my experience the superiority isn't Japanese speakers/readers vs. non-readers, but rather the old-guard vs. new players. If you look at the VNDB forums, TLwiki forums, and (unfortunately) even areas of major VN sites like eroguedownload (which, btw, is an amazing site) they are extremely toxic and abusive to newcomers. Around the site Aaeru describes this as an outgrowth of 4chan and /jp/ webculture, so when you see references to that, know that this topic is exactly why she created Fuwanovel. No matter what you call it, though, it's a toxic, condescending and extremely unwelcoming environment to VN newcomers and veterans alike. It's the people perpetuating those toxic and rude atmospheres which make the VN scene so dysfunctional. Now, a lot of the people I'm talking about know Japanese and are actively translating games. I think that's where this article is coming from. My suggestion is that, contrary to the article, the dysfunction comes from certain web-circles, and not Japanese vs Non-Japanese outlooks. (Just want to thank everyone, again, for being so friendly on Fuwa.)
  4. Sorry sanahtlig, I don't understand what you're getting at. I think it's a grammar issue. Could you try again?
  5. I'm really impressed by the way you're using this, Aaeru. It's a tough but powerful move to accept their actions, but use them to highlight the problems with the system. I hope you get a chance to use interviews and other media to show the community that thanks to these kinds of actions, we may never get these games. Also, I hope everyone will drop by the blog entry (http://visualnovelaer.fuwanovel.net/2013/03/da-capo-iii-fan-translation-cease-desisted-by-mangagamer/) and show your support for Aaeru and fan translation.
  6. Sorry, since we don't host it here on Fuwa, I've never played it or playtested any installs. Have you checked the location you downloaded it from? Places like ErogueDownload have great forums for tech support. If you want us to take a crack at it on a surface level, tho, please follow the rules and post the info required here: link. Thanks!

    Happy Birthday!

  9. Yeah... those were good times. Good ole' Demon Lord Harry_Kinomoto and I had some good chats, as did several of the old guard. Miss those guys! (Harry's in Medical school and is wisely prioritizing his time : ), thus his absence)
  10. Angel Beats was the first anime I've watched dubbed in English (on Netflix). I liked the show a lot, and that last episode got me in the heart, but the English was a little jarring. It made me realize what cartoonized voices must sound like to Japanese native watchers. Kind of an eye opener.
  11. You've not been forgotten. Still looking into this. Keep googling, tho, and share if you find a fix.
  12. I wanted to pipe in and say that this discussion has featured some very well-articulated points. Zalor's discussion on length and polish is spot on with what I teach in creative writing classes, and what is universally advocated by authors worldwide. It can be boiled down to, "Every scene should serve the narrative." Writing that exists for its own sake nearly always harms the story in the long run. What I find interesting and captivating about visual novels --and it sounds like Zalor does as well -- is the way they often balance the monotony of the day-by-day storytelling (which is rarely found in other genres) with each scene serving the narrative. Sometimes, as an author, it leaves me marveling.
  13. Awesome. I'm going to meet you there. We're almost there!! Crazy! Also -- Just want to off my amazement and pride and congrats for learning EIGHT HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE KANJI WITH A CLOUDED BRAIN! That seriously speaks volumes about your willpower. Seriously. Wow.
  14. So your last entry was, essentially, the greatest thing I've read all day. I get motivation from just reading it. Thank you so much! It's especially impressive how you only missed one day so far. You really are an inspiration to me and to the rest of us. Thank you!
  15. I've said this so many times I'm sure you're all sick of hearing it -- it's a GOOD thing that you're prioritizing in life, it's a major part of becoming a responsible person. Way to go As for the Japanese, just keep at it. Scale back, but do not stop! Even at a snail's piece, you'll be done in a year. That's a pretty powerful life lesson in and of itself, but we're proud and excited by your progress!
  16. Glad you're still studying, just want to pipe in that it's nearly impossible to learn something difficult without a clear goal and plan. I want to keep cheering you on, but I don't know what you're aiming at now. When you get some time, we'd all love to get an outline of your new approach.
  17. Flip, Ryoji, you're rocking it. Genetically superior, man! I'm behind you in the numbers, but I'm bent on hitting 1K with you. How many days do I have?
  18. I'm really proud of you. Despite not hitting your original plan, you've carried on, still feel motivated and have correctly prioritized your life. Bettering yourself and fulfilling responsibilities is most important. I think we all wish we were further along than we are, but the only thing that'll matter a year from now is that we did it. Congrats on your acceptance! There's no question that this kanji study will help in your future, so instead of feeling pressure to cram for the coming exams, turn it into positive emotion and use it to get excited. Worst case, even if you don't finish all you want, you'll be in a better position than you would have otherwise been. It's win/win now!
  19. In-game crashes are always harder to diagnose. What error are you getting? Can you post a copy or screenshot?
  20. These games are beautiful on a Vita. I'm about halfway through the first game, and the art really pops on the screen. This was a great read, Batman! Thanks!
  21. This is the coolest topic. I now feel the need to retreat into meditation and do some soul searching...
  22. I had some fun with it. I liked watching a Japanophile realize his dream, enjoyed the history lessons (VNs are much more fun than guidebooks!), and liked the love stories. I'm not a fan of H-Contnent, so the super-minimal skin was appreciated. As for the music... It's been so long... I worry that I actually listened to it all the way through both routes...
  23. Naw, I was writing about all the awesome people on Fuwanovel. Ryoji never got the PM, tho, since when I clicked the post button, my computer about;blank'd and I lost it There were a lot of names, tho Thanks, all, for being so awesome!
  24. Yes, I was wondering just that! In fact, I was writing Ryoji a PM earlier today about you and Steve. I hope things work out! Let us know if we can do anything (mail you a FSN DVD, etc. ; )).
  25. This was great! I can't wait for more -- again! (oh yeah, sorry for tweeting you asking about it the other day ; ). simply couldn't wait). I enjoyed the dialogue, but missed quite a bit because of my instinctive, rapid click-click-click play skipped some. Thank you for sharing : ). So cool. Feedback Good Things - I enjoyed the ramp up in difficulty near the end of Episode 2. - Dialogue was surprisingly engaging! I went in not sure of what to expect, but I like it : ) - +300 XP for Kinder Surprises ; ). I loved those things in Russia... - Character Sprites were amateur, but fun - Good, clever gameplay mechanics Suggestions - Make in-play dialogue sequences last at least two (?) mouse clicks. Obsessive clickers like me miss out on dialogue, which is sad (Note: I may not agree with this idea) (yes, even though I proposed it) - Make the log-in button pop in/out when clicked on the "start" page -- thus highlighting how to start the game Bad Things REALLY Bad Things REALLY REALLY Bad Things - We have to wait for more content again! Click this button for my reaction!
