  1. Yay! Awesome. It's super good for your brain. You'll build a lot of mental muscles by doing it (plus: Japanese!).
  2. The older I get, the more I appreciate the fringe uses for a handheld gaming device. On my Vita I'm a total nut about the strange discovery app series they're putting out (like Wake Up Club). On my 3DS, however, I'm really enjoying things like Art Academy (learning art skills!), and, especially the new Brain age game: Concentration Training (or devilish training). This game has actually helped me in school, with learning the kanji, and more. Are any of you playing this or other Brain Age games? Know of any awesome 3DS/Vita apps? (or even Android/iOS?)
  3. Added! Look out for an incoming friend request : )
  4. If you get a Vita, get it for Wake Up Club ; ) (but P4G is amazing) Yeah, I was just looking around your trophies (super cool!). Looks like we have a little overlap : ). I'm working on the Walking Dead, too -- forgot to mention that -- but those games feel more like a movie/novel experience over a game. Lovin' it, tho. Anybody else on the PSN?
  5. Yay! I play all sorts of games: right now I'm enjoying Final Fantasy 4 (+after years), Persona 4 Golden, Ni no Kuni, and working on platinum-ing a few other games. You?

    Steve's on! Steve's on! Steve's on! Steve's on!

  7. I think it went through. You're showing up on my friends list. Am I on yours? [secret identity edited out]
  8. Sent and email to Vax/ilegend/Aaeru about this idea. We'll see what they have to say about it : )
  9. Yay! Just sent you a friend invite : )
  10. Hey -- anybody out there on the PSN? If so, I'd love to be friends. Right now my friends list is pretty small, and it would be awesome to see some Fuwanovel faces on there.
  11. One of the biggest companies is Type-Moon, creator of the legendary Fate/Stay Night visual novel (and other Fate/_____ games), Tsukihime visual novel, and more. The translation group Mirror Moon has handled a lot of the translations, and they're all of a very high quality.
  12. Yes, I have a 3DS XL and the game. Have I played it? No. "WHY!?!?" you ask? Because in a bizarre turn of events, my wife LOOOVES it and steals it. : ) Are you having fun with it?
  13. Ooooh! Cool! Now, obviously first publication rights are a big deal, but it you ever have a desire for feedback, there are a lot of people here who'd love to read it! If you want to keep it out of the public eye, PMing is a good idea, too. I'm interested, though: what makes it a "light novel" instead of, say, short story/novelette/novel?
  14. I've played a lot of OELVNs, and a TON of them use this. I agree that it's distracting and out of character. We both know it's catering to the audience, but... In general, though, OELVNs are written as amateur projects, and very few of them have any editing done (which is a shame). It's amazing what a good editor can do for a story.

    VN Haul

Holy cow. This looks so beautiful. Do you have any other pictures of this? My goodness... did it cost $1m?
  16. Jeff, I've looked around the net and haven't seen this before. I'll keep asking around, though. It's one of those things that make even techies ask, "Are you even sure those two are related?" Keep googling, and I will, too.
  17. I should note that the main site isn't a wordpress site. This section won't be a wordpress-based thing. On a side note, we DID implement a submit-news function on the blog : )
  18. Hello, all, I'm hoping to get some suggestions from the tech-savvy Fuwanovel-ians about a special project. I've tried to find solutions on my own, but what I've come up with isn't very good. We're looking to add a "User-Submitted News" section under the Featured/VisualNovelAer/Facebook sections on the main page: The submission functionality needs to have the following features: Anybody can type in/submit VN-related newsModeration/Approval before posting(Ideally) CAPTCHA Does anybody know of a way to do this? I want to have a suggestion or two to give Vax/ilegend, instead of saying, "Hey, could you figure out a way to do this?" They're both really busy, and so having a solution already thought out that simply needs coding would be great. Thanks! Looking forward to your collective insights.
  19. Looks like a good plan! I'm feeling a strong desire to wake up earlier, so I may start a 5am regimen, too. That will give me time for Kanji, making breakfast, working out (!), and more. Timeboxing is a REALLY important part of my daily routine. I should probably update the main SC13 post with info about it. For me, at least, it makes reviewing fun (a game), and makes it go by really fast. I usually set a 15 minute timeboxing goal, but sometimes when I'm standing in line, etc., it becomes, "Can I do 25 before I get to the front of the line?" : ) Keep us posted : )
  20. I hope you guys do! I'm in college, too (applying to medical school right now, actually, so almost done with undergrad), and work. Then there's things like volunteering, family, and my awesome wife. Then there's this beautiful invention called Fuwanovel. And then there's Ryoji's walkthrough section which makes me want to play so many games. And then there's Ryoji's Lucky Star anime recommendation. And then there's Persona 4 Golden. And then there's... Goodness. Life. Anyway, somehow I manage to get in 50/day on my good days. It takes a solid hour of studying the new kanji, with review sessions sprinkled in throughout the day. I try and review any time I'm in "empty time" (on the bus, in line, eating, etc.), and that usually gets me through by dinner. In any case, I hope to build the program as I go through it, and I'd love for you to join us and contribute your great ideas : )
  21. "With that said..."
  22. Hey Ryoji, This is really impressive! At the end of the month the key will be to look back at those you've learned (and are learning), and appreciate that not only have you learned TONS of Kanji that just a few weeks ago you didn't know, but that you're essentially 1/4 of the way over the biggest hurdle of all. Congrats : )
  23. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! THAT'S AWESOME!!! KEEP IT UP! Gift:
  24. First things first: Thanks a ton for your support on my blog. I really appreciate it : ). Having people support you in the Japanese Quest is really important, and I appreciate it : ) Okay! So... looks like you hit "the wall" with Kanji, huh? If you remember my original concerns, I'm going to echo a few sentiments: It sounds like you're trying to eat the whole elephant at once, instead of bite-by-biteIt sounds like you're trying to regulate yourself and keep a healthy mindIt sounds like you're prioritizing Point #2 -- is REALLY important: when I was living in Russia, trying to learn Russian via firehose instead of a glass at a time, I was NOT trying to regulate myself and keep a healthy mind : ). Good job on that. You've realized that you can't do it all, and you're prioritizing. Point #1/3 -- Going along with that, while you're prioritizing, you AREN'T prioritizing the Kanji. That's totally fine: people have learned Japanese 1000 different ways. It looks like you've even found some support for the path you're building for yourself. I hope you'll keep us up to date, and let us know how we can help. I've chosen to start with (and focus exclusively on) the Kanji until I have the joyo down. I do this because trying to drink the entire language at once is too much for me. I still encourage you to NOT stop the Kanji (scale back to 10 a day), because with almost no effort (10 mins + reviews) you'll be done in a few months. Point #3 -- Again, prioritizing is good, but only so long as you realize what you're prioritizing, and are doing so consciously. Also, just as key, it's important to watch what you AREN'T prioritizing.
