Virtual reality going in the right direction
Narcosis replied to Xypers's topic in General Discussion
Actually, VR is just another possible plane of existence. It can generate resources and income in the same manner real life does. Money is money, no matter the form. -
I just did the hard song and decided to use a single stone to check some additional stuff. Suprisingly, it isn't hard at all; considering getting a decent smile team is propably the easiest and they carry a huge score boost, it's easy to get an S rank score even with fuck-ups ^^; fc'ing it is a different story, though. It requires rather quick reflexes and I failed on those long notes in the middle, where you have to grab the upcoming one before you let go of the previous; either that or it might be possible to grab/release both at once, but there's a split second to do that and it might require perfect timing. I need to get more practice, since it's actually my very first rythm game I have ever played, haha. Yeah, I've read about the jp update; I really like the new cut-in option, not sure how much of the field vision it obstructs but it doesn't cover the whole screen, which is the most important thing. I already got used to play without them, but they are a nice eye candy and if possible, it would be fun to have them back on screen. In my opinion, everyone should go for the 13k score to get at least the basic card; it should be relatively easy, as long as you play often (in other words, do not miss the sessions and use the rank up boosts as much as possible). At my current level, I can forget about competing with people in the top 200-1000, but I will definately monitor the situation and if it will be possible to somehow get into top 1000 without using more loveca than it's worth, I'll go for it.

Any tricks to maximize getting event points? If I'm correct, you get the ammount of event points equivalent to the ammount of LP used for the song, right? I will have to check out the hard version on the net and go for the event hard songs only as well, but my team is rather crappy. Since the end results depend highly on your team, it's obvious only the top players with best teams will score the highest of all, leaving the rest far behind.

I decided to check normal mode first and accidentally went in with my pure team instead of smile... and then failed to FC around the end. Much fail, lol.

The upcoming event will have that animal ver. of Nico, while the unidolized cards come from the nightwear series, just like the previous Umi. This is going to be intense. On the other hand, I got my first double R card. Now I'm wondering - is it better to level up my idolized Kotori for a skill upgrade, or should I just level up the new one? Considering I'm still using two normals for my cool team, it could be a wiser choice. Also, speaking of those skill upgrades - if I'm correct you don't need the exact same card, just the skill, right? I hope getting at least to 13k won't be a huge problem, though it seems the ammount of players had increased drastically (already 8m compared to 2m from a while ago). The only question is how many of them are active players like us, since only those can be considered our competitors; they might raise the score caps required to level up. On the other hand, new event gives increased means to level up faster, which allows more play sessions. As always, loveca stones might come in handy in the worst case. We've been suffering from reduced ammount of pics in this thread for a while, therefore have this delightful Nico I found during my daily lurking on Pixiv. Enjoy. [source: きょくちょ]

Virtual reality going in the right direction

Using Oculus Rift for games like those is a waste of technological potential. There are far better projects already in the development, Morpheus being only one of them. The point of OR is to encourage both users and developers alike to increase their interest for VR. Low price is one of the major factors, which will play a huge role in it's distribution in the near future. -

NA devs trying too hard. -
Neat idea, I admit that.

That's an interesting concept. There's only one issue - it lacks proper background to support the elements it's being made upon. How are they able to materialize anything out of thin air? Is it some sort of an ESP power, or perhaps a gods' gift? Is it infinite? Are there any drawbacks? What about abuse? Wouldn't it make such "utopia" incredibly susceptible to attacks and eventual collapse? If so, are there any forces/groups who specialize in fighting crime associated with it? As long as you'll manage to do your work, it might become a good foundation for an intriguing story. Do otherwise and everything will become extremely superfluous and artificial.

I began to catch up with the hard songs and was really surprised they don't seem that difficult anymore, after all the time I spent on playing the game. Suprisingly, I get decent results on every first try; I'm still far from FC'ing most of them, but I guess that like with everything else, it all boils down to constant training and improvement. In the beggining they are rather hard because they cost a lot of LP in comparision to their easy and normal counterparts, but after a while your LP pool gets huge enough you can train without getting bothered you waste your precious points on them. Other than that, I did like 4x10 common draws today and didn't got a single rare. At least I managed to level up my SR Nico, but the previously huge gold pool suddenly shrank so much I'm starting to get worried whether I won't run out of money trying to max up the rest of my cards, haha.

I finished watching it a while ago; was pleasantly surprised and no less than happy it's going to get a second season. Tsutomu Nihei is a great designer.

What's the actual purpose of this thread? I find it completely redundant. Unless someone wants to argue whether XYZ deserves the rating it got, it's far better to just visit VNDB, not to mention a topic like this requires constant and work intensive maintenance, otherwise it will quickly go out of date.

Western visual novels tend to be imperfect. Their biggest issue lies within the inability of their creators to use them as a form for their writing. Instead, most amateur works dwelve deeper into the otaku-pandering hell, blatantly copying japanese mindset, which does not work for western-related enviroments. Our general writing style is far different from japanese, we have a different perception of this medium as well. It's important that people who create vn's in the first place should be the real writers, instead of fans who simply "want to make a vn", because they like them. As for the Dischan, they could make a difference; unfortunately, real Dischan is no more. Cradle Song remains a dropped project, since the lead artist and designer, Simon "Doomfest" Ma permanently left Dischan. Cradle Song had a lot of potential, but I doubt it will be ever finished; even if it will be picked up again, it won't be the game it was ought to become. Nonetheless, it was a decent example, that headed in the right direction with high quality visuals, art and appropriate writing. I'm not giving any hopes to Dysfunctional systems anymore because of the same issue - Dischan's main advantage was within it's specific art, made by Doomfest; it was it's sign and without it, it won't be the same anymore. Juniper's Knot so far was their best released work, but it was more of a short experiment concluded along the nanowrimo challenge; it's short length was a part of it. In my eyes, Dischan's future is rather dim and excluding Dysfunctional Systems that might be perceived as a final breath, I doubt they will continue to work on visual novels, considering their current top priority plan is to work on the animation.

I bet it was Zvezda.

None. If someone decides to hack you, he will do so. Other than that, there's a bigger chance you'll get a cancer than be hacked as a random internet user with no backlog, or history.
-
Don't download the files. Simple as that.
-
The way P2P works is similiar to the FTP, with the slight exception there's a whole network above built between users who host the downloaded files via trackers. A torrent file can be understood as an invitation to that network - by opening it within an appropriate client, you basically log to that network and retrieve the overall number of people who are currently sharing the file - both seeders (uploaders) and leechers (downloaders). Your bit torrent client then proceeds to connect with everyone who's able to share any kind of bit of the downoaded file with you and starts downloading it, part by part. The more seed/leech ratio, the faster and more reliable downloading will go; if there's a lot more leechers than seeders, you might get very low downloading speeds (because each seeder has to share their connection with more leechers), or don't get any downloads at all - you're put into a queue and have to wait for your turn. In general, seeders always get faster uploading speeds, therefore they are the most reliable source for downloading, but it isn't a given; as the whole network relies on each user, there's a whole ton of different factors that have to be taken into account, including routing issues and their internet connections. Some leechers with very good connections might seed a lot faster than certain seeders - the only issue might be that they don't have the whole file ready to seed yet, only certain parts of it. Longtime seeding is a honorable task, though you might actually just monitor the number of people who download the file; if it isn't anything rare or extremely valuable and there's no one actually downloading it for days, you might as well finish seeding. Various torrents usually die out of few cases - they are either extremely old/outdated and no one cares about them anymore, obscure or very specific; since they are often seeded only temporarily or periodically, they are often very hard to download and might require days of anxious waiting.

Boring and bland, that's the whole summer animu in a nutshell. As much as I'm currently picking up postponed series, this season seems to be even less entertaining than the previous ones. At least I won't have to waste my time waiting in anticipation for new eps every week. I will propably end up watching more series than expected, anyway.
-
I was simply looking for something lighthearted. If that's the case, then it's fine, I guess.
-
I'll be watching both seasons preety soon, when the batches will be out. As for now, I just finished DL'ing Ishuukan Friends. Should I expect feels?

TL is never a public domain, unless otherwise stated. Getting paid depends on a lot of factors. In overall, they should be paid for their work, always. Some give it away for free, others are willing to do so when doing an unofficial TL and hoping some publisher eventually picks the game they are working on. It's a middle ground for that kind of work they do, if they want to remain 100% clean. Some publishers get away with actually paying a dime or offer other things in exchange; certain "agreements" are made.

More like useless protagonist; hero is a specific term and those characters won't ever aspire to become one. Besides, why do you think this happens in the first place? It's because those people are both empty themselves, they often do not reach beyond popculture and thus are constantly feed with poorly written works; they have no sort of way to shape their own proper taste. Since it's also fine and sells like hotcakes, we can expect more of those lousy protagonists to plague future works. We shape what we get, after all.

Oh, wait! It worked. You're marvelous, CLuBLioN. I'd never come up with this idea myself. Seems like we have a convinient pixiv source extractor :>
-
Nosebleed, could you share the link you've used to download the file? I want to check out whether FF parses the file differently than Chrome does. In my case I found only a 600x600 version which seems to be divided between a bunch of zip files. Pixiv server refuses access to it anyway.
-
Those aren't actual GIF's, but sequences of frames; I'm currently trying to find a reliable way to extract them. Pixiv finally supports embed animations; they've created a monster. Cute animation.
