Just saw as Niconico already reached 13k and thus, obtained the new Nico. This must be some kind of incurable madness.

Sekai Project Official Grisaia Translation?
Narcosis replied to douggle's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I'd still say people should support SP, if they only have the means to do so; after all, they are doing far better job than any of our older publishers. It doesn't have to be financial - spreading the word or writing an in-depth review for the games they published is as good as paying them money. In the end, they might actually bring in a lot of freshness to the western market, along with their releases. We might be dissatisfied with the way they chosen, but in the end there's nothing that can be done. I only hope SP will be more faithful next time and publishes an original PC version, instead creating family-friendly mashups for sake of quick and effortless monetization. -

Seats aren't copies, my dear. In case of digital download, there's an unlimited number of seats that won't ever get filled. Besides, a lot of people with money won't have any reason, nor obligation to change their minds and turn to stealing; heck, they typically pay because they can and because it's just easier to pay and get what you want in an instant, instead having to lean towards pirating. Steam made those things even far more simpler and it's just a matter of a bank account accepting digital transactions and a few clicks. There's also that fuzzy feeling we get from buying things, because it makes us happy and assures that we made the RIGHT thing. A lot of people simply wants to support creators and suppliers of various goods, whatever their cause remains. This discussion slowly derails from the most important aspect regarding actual impact on this community, that might come with any kind of repercussions. In worst case, SP will issue a C&D and Fuwa will have to take the downloads down. Whether the staff will actually agree to this, or not is a different story. In the end, people forget that in case of Fuwanovel, it's an entirely different version of the game being available. Forcing parties to take down stuff or suffer legal issues is a pain in in the ass, as well. I doubt that SP would even want to actually waste their time and resources to try and take Fuwanovel on a judicial route. It's not that simple as sending an inquiry to the ISP's and ask them to block or take the website down. -

So, you guys still believe that download ≠ lost sale? Let me tell you something. There are two types of consumers - those who have the means to buy things and those who haven't. Those who have the means, will buy the game. Those who can't, will download it. It does not mean a lost sale, because those people weren't meant to be their customers in the first place. Only those with the means are ought to become customers. Now, you forget about simple thing that piracy = stealing, but in case of our current generation, we're not managing physical assets, but digital data and that data is an unlimited, renewable source. People who can't buy the game (yet) aren't stealing anything from the creators, nor publishers. There's no loss. They aren't doing any harm. Capiche? The thing you believe in is an intricate web of deceptions, created by the capitalistic dinosaurs to ensure their status quo in this modern age, which already changes way too fast for them to adapt. One can say that a visual novel, a book or a game isn't required to live (or survive, as Steve stated). Surely, they won't feed us, but at the same time they are the food for thought; they are the things which actually shape our lives and perceptions. Everyone has the right to access our cultural heritage in the same manner as everyone has the right to live. It's fine to have such a high esteem, but you could say that's also an luxury not everyone can afford. -

It's quite funny to see publishers of such a niche part of the gaming community having to rely on their fanbase to achieve success. They already made it a business in the first place, knowing it's going to be ridiculously difficult to stay afloat and that vn's on the west aren't a decent source of income and yet they complain all the time about how hard it is and that "piracy" is destroying all their efforts. If I'd really care for the original creators, I'd send them money directly and write a mail, pouring all my love for them, their works and words of encouragement to continue despite all the issues, honestly we ourselves often cause them as well. Publishers aren't entitled to anything, them asking us to help support their own business is no less than idiotic, rude and reeks of immaturity and lack of professionalism. Don't forget that all the big publishing studios we have right now all started from fan efforts - people, who loved vn's and wanted to bring them to the west officially. Sadly, they aren't still doing a decent enough job and in plenty of cases, money becomes more of an issue to them since they need funds to support themeselves and their offices in the first place. MG took ages to release EF, Moenovel simply showed us their middle finger and JAST is constantly refusing to port more Nitro+ titles we'd love to see, despite them being their western subsidiary. All the reasons they fail, time after time is because of their own clear mistakes and community does not play any role in that. Perhaps, if they would try harder, care less for money in the first place and more about the games they want to bring over things would look differently, but that's not the reality we live in. In the end, their business is just themselves trying to live off publishing japanese eroge on the west. There's simply no space for them to condemn the Fan TL's and visual novel community that gave birth to them and accuse us for not trying to make things better for them. How can that happen, if what they do is still not what the community expects out of them? It's like they're waiting for some miracle to happen, instead trying to create them. From this perspective, I'm quite glad with what SP is currently doing; they embraced a different model - the one where the publisher works closely with their customers to satisfy their needs and ensure themselves a steady flow of income as well. Sadly, it seems that whenever official business is being introduced, it eats away at who those people once used to be, which slowly results in lack of connection and understanding towards the community; the very same one, they once were a part of. -
Sunrider - part 1 was just publically released.
Narcosis replied to vaendryl's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I have no love for modern space operas with mechs based on weeaboo-japanesque settings. I'm really impressed with your team's overall efforts on pulling off a decent tactical turn based game, but Sunrider's writing is quite dissapointing; as Rooke stated above, it reads preety much like some sort of a poor fanfiction based off japanese works, rather than author's own imagination; character art and cg's are amateurish and completely not on par with the rest of the game's graphics; they do not meld well with the 3d renders either. Despite it trying to be a big game with funding, the overall vibe the Sunrider gives off is still far from proffesional and polished. Music and turn-based combat are propably the only important qualities the game has to offer, since the strategy parts are really enjoyable, despite their repeatability and music creates a nice atmopshere for the game. Sunrider still feels more like a prototype, than a full-fledged game. Keep on going, though; one day you'll make great things, I'm sure of that.- 11 replies

Hijacking fan TL's starts to become a lucrative business for the current monopoly of our western publishers. And what can those poor fan translators do, when all they'd like to see is that their beloved game actually gets officially released. In the end, they can own the license, they can C&D anything they want. In such situations it could as well be treated as a form of blackmail. And none will ever hear the translator was literally forced to hand over his work for free, otherwise the fruits of his own labor would turn bitter on him. -
They are too overpowered; the difference even between SR and UR cards remains big. It's also one of the reasons why the top positions in all the events are mostly occupied by maxed out teams of endgame players, and we'll never be able to compete with them. My current teams lack proper cards, a lot of my rares remain unidolized and the cool team still has two normal cards, since I only got my two last decent cool cards only a while ago. My biggest value was around 35-36k, while the boosted out teams typically have twice as much if not more. Everything depends on how lucky you are with draws. I've seen some players with ridiculous teams consisting of SR/UR's only, and a lot of them were idolized. There's literally no chance to compete with them. But that's not important, where all you want is to have fun and chill out for a bit. At least, that's why I play this game and card collecting is really enjoyable.

Considering h-content is the only thing relevant in this case, I've seen enough of the game already to have a valid opinion; I wouldn't post otherwise. Please refrain from trolling, if you don't have anything constructive to share. -

Go Go Nippon was one of the first vn's that made it to Steam, and when that happened it was already quite well known due to the discussions all around the net. Regardless of that, it's a game with educational merits as well; it sold so many copies only because of that. None of the current vn's going to Steam won't sell as well, ever, unless it's some sort of a blockbuster title, made by a famous studio like TypeMoon or Key, for example. Being on Steam always increases sales by a bit in most cases, but it is not a given. A lot of potential whether the game sales well, or not depends on the publishers and devs themselves; if they won't work towards it, try to spread news, use social networks and feeds like Twitter/FB and encourage people to get interested, Steam itself plays a minor role in increasing sales. The only plus from Steam is that it allows players to have all their games in one place and eases the management of such collections. Having a huge database of titles available at hand is the biggest merit, in that case. Steam's popularity rised from the fact it does everything for gamers, and modern gamers are simply lazy as fuck. I can ensure you, that Grisaia will be off the frontpage in a matter of few hours at most; a lot of newly distributed games, unless already popular, fall from the frontpage in less than an hour. Placing visual novels on Steam won't make them any less niche they already are; in worst case, it will only increase the backlash they receive from the rest of the western gaming community, which treats them as some kind of a japanese joke. Everyone propably got me wrong I'm trying to defend the original PC version's h-content, while all they are doing is basically making a western release out of the content from the Vita version. Is it good? Of course it is; the real problem lies in the fact, we're still not getting original ports to the west and both publishers and japanese devs do everything to avoid publishing original, 18+ versions of their games that were meant for the PC platform; currently using Steam as a cover. -

REPENT FOR YOUR SINS, LOLICONS. On the other hand, I'm already sure what is the premise all about: The girls actually become worried about guys' excessive use of right/left hand force, therefore they decide to help him relieve stress in more comfortable ways; the rest of the story is them doing things.

When last checked, I was around ~650 with 1200-1500-ish score result, or something. @crunchytaco I don't mind being added, just be sure to leave a message so I can know it's you.

I'm at a lost for words... (HuniePop discussion)

I think they are actually trying to be serious. But then, who doesn't. No matter what type of work you write, there's a certain degree of quality involved in the process; no one will treat you seriously, otherwise. I really hope that's the case with this game - that devs actually never wanted to be treated seriously right from the very beggining. I also hope it will remain like this. -
Like girls going kemononimi don't become few times cuter. That's why I'd love to get that Nico x2. Not gonna happen, though.

This one's nice as well! I like Rin no matter what artists force her to wear.

No, I haven't played the game yet, I've only seen a couple of dialogues and some of that h-content; I'm not that stupid to spoil all the fun for myself. I'm not fighting for it, either. I'm simply stating Sekai is starting to take way too many liberties with their localization process. If they can't handle eroge, I'd rather see them release non-h games only. Back then, when Steam didn't exist, this wouldn't prove to be that much of a problem. But now, everyone just wants to be on Steam, cause they are too scared, self-centered and not strong enough to take things into their own hands, at least not anymore. -

There's nothing to discuss; I once managed a polish vn-oriented blog with infrequent english posting as well, but that's it. People don't care and it's not worth to do anything within the community, that's not the point of it. Either western communities finally grow up, or the whole gaming will remain within one, huge sandbox. I couldn't care less, to be honest. It's not like I can't get the original with previous english TL. You don't know much about Steam, if you say so. There were tons of games already released like Grisaia; their sole prospect of relase being that Steam will help their developers to get bigger sales and recognition, they need. Guess what? They all usually drop down below the lists within a couple of first hours. Only huge titles make it to the top; otherwise, it's the same as everywhere - you do not exist. Steam isn't some sort of miracle anymore; everyone today has access and possibilities to pull their games onto Steam, as long as Valve and users like them. Please stop spreading common misconceptions. Games like Grisaia won't ever shine on western market. It's a type of publishing that currently almost falls into "hobbyist" categories. No matter how hard groups like Sekai will try, they won't "force" them through and Steam won't help them. The only possibility is to keep a consistent streak of high quality releases, close to the original versions as possible. How are they supposed to publish games well and move on further, if they fail to please their core community? -

Narcosis replied to douggle's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Sekai is making one big mistake; they are too desperate to pull all their future releases onto Steam. Steam won't benefit them; they are selling a niche product. It's not Super Meatboy, it's not Braid, it's not CoD. It's a fucking japanese eroge. They won't gain bigger audience by placing Grisaia on Steam; what current western publishers do is release vn's for their fanbase. I'd love if they'd finally understand that and start delivering proper distributions. I don't mind them placing non-h vn's on Steam, but for gods' sake, why forcing an eroge onto Steam? They won't ever get on frontpages; forget about it. That's the problem. I don't care whether the original creators are fond of that, or not; I doubt any struggling dev would cringe upon perspective to get more "reliable" income sources; the issue is that again, it's not the game we're expecting to get. And a quite decent, high quality title, to add. They could, of course, simply release a h-patch that would be available for download only from their website, but I doubt they care enough to actually make everyone happy. There's something like self-publishing. It existed ages before Gaben even thought about something like Steam. Everyone can distribute their games digitally nowadays. The problem is that Sekai propably wants to minimize both the costs and dillemas associated with releasing an "adult" game. Witcher is an adult game, too. It has sex scenes and strong sexual content. It's on Steam. It's the typical western hypocrisy. -

It's still a watered-down version, just for the sake of increased sales. It's the same what japanese devs do by adding porn. The only difference between our nations is that japs don't have issues with sexual content, while we do. Steam is a non-factor from that perspective. I'm glad Sekai is making bold moves, but it's not good enough yet. For one, I don't want vn's on Steam. I want original, TL'ed releases on my own PC. -

Narcosis replied to douggle's topic in Visual Novel Talk
So, let me put it straight - the game will get an M rating anyway, but they are removing the original H-scenes from the western release? And of course, they have no plans for a patch that would add H-content back for those who'd like to have it. They can't be serious. When will the western community get the proper, mature treatment? If not for our moralfags, it's always japanese devs getting the wrong idea or not being serious enough to push content through. I have no plans to support this, in that case. -
Ah, yep. I'm talking nonsense. It's an SR, not UR; not like I wasn't aware of it, baka. I got lucky this time and received another rare Rin, which finally made her fully idolized. Nice card, yay.

I have an UR Nico. Nothing special, though I released a few friend slots so if you want, send an invite.
