I seriously couldn't care less, since I'm not planning to buy it and I haven't actually bought anything from SP except for Nekopara, Fault and WEE. My current opinion regarding SP remains mixed. They did some nice stuff in the beginning, brought a couple of decent games (and I'm not even talking about Grisaia or any other AAA releases, I'm talking mostly about indie vn's), but at the moment it seems they're slowly turning into another corporate body, which isn't anything spectacular considering the ammount of work they're currently doing. Besides, did you ever expected Dovac to form SP only out of pure love for vn's? They've been in that business for a long time, for them it's already more about making a reasonable living doing the stuff they like, instead of being forced to do things you don't necesarilly want to, for the rest of your life. They will make decisions focused on maximizing profits and securing their financial stability, they won't care that much about a couple of opinions from a bunch of users on the internet. If they would, they'd already have their representatives on Fuwanovel for a long time and actively discuss about their work and lineups with the community. Sadly, some people also think Fuwanovel equals whole vn community, which isn't the case. Nevertheless, they don't really even need all the oldtime communities anymore, since they already have access to Steam. TL & DR: Those guys don't really care about your shitty eroges, nor your opinions. Move along.

If I remember correctly, G-Senjou was made on the earlier KK/KAG builds, which should theoretically support such functionality; in worst case, it shouldn't be an issue to port the code. Why not forward this kind of an idea instead of mocking the devs responsible for the release?

Yeah. Just keep on boycotting every single release. I hope everyone will be happy that way. I'm a big fan of episodes also, the future of Visual Novels is episodic content imo. The price point is one of the biggest obstacles to decent sales, along with accessibility (otherwise known as most 'reader's' don't do their reading on a computer.) Don't get fooled. A bunch of developers already tried that and they all failed miserably. In general, vn's have no future as a proper medium because less and less people read and no one's really getting worked up over an idea to "read a game". They will continue to exist though, because there's always a market for 18+ games, especially in Japan; it's still better than nothing.

You expect a game with art assets designed to work in 4:3/5:4 to display flawlessly in 16:9 ratio? I applaud. I agree porting to 16:9 could be done better, but you can't really do much without having to redraw/redo the art specially for 16:9. This is not something SP is even responsible for, it's Akabei's decision, which was propably made because they don't really have the access to the original assets anymore and weren't able to recreate them. Think twice next time before posting redundant trollbaits.

guide The so call VN engine [the truth behind them all] [10/28/2015]
Narcosis replied to firecat's topic in Creative Corner
I seriously have no words on this. MFW people try to "educate" others on things they themselves don't have the slightest idea about. I wanted to avoid this thread like fire, but I simply couldn't resist. Sorry. -

We're talking about proper content balance. Modern mmo's are a laugh. Suprisingly, I enjoyed the grind in L2, but was it really because I loved it from the bottom of my heart? I propably liked it, because we had nothing else at that time and age; on the other hand, that grind was actually justified by the game's design - L2 was a sandbox defined only by a small set of rules imposed by the game and it's engine, while players actually decided what's important, and what's not. Yet, don't get me wrong, when I'm saying it's bad when games become a second job - only badly designed games sell themselves as content-filled, while in reality they have nothing to offer except for color variety of the same exact thing, over and over again. Today's mmorpg's are the exact opposite, yet it didn't made them better. That "instant gratification" are years of casual players complaining about games, which weren't really as much of a second job, as requiring actual "effort" to get somewhere from point A to point B; crude, nevertheless rewarding. Modern mmorpg's just hand out everything to players for free and propose even more additional perks for their money. You have three types of games nowadays - those, where you literally buy yourself into the top (PW), those with boosts that help you get to the top quicker while maintaining fair player competivity (Survarium) and those, that live off purely from the fanservice (TERA). Mmorpg's were always about devoting your free time to live that second life, but it's propably time to move on from the concept of "having to devote that time, because you have to grind a million goblins to craft a single piece of gear". Don't try to justify bad game design. Bad game design is bad game design. Period.

Define "horror". Saya no Uta is not as much of an horror, as psychological thriller mixed with elements from cthulhu mythos. It's propably better to ask yourself, whether you're comfortable with violence and gore. If a mere sight of blood is repulsing to you, I wouldn't bother; otherwise, yes - you should give it a try. It's still one of the best written vn's out there.

Katawa Shoujo is propably the easiest and most reliable choice for you in terms of what you're looking for; it has decent character development and nice production value to the point, you should enjoy it, as long as you don't mind discussing people with disabilities. If you're looking for something more compelling, set in a distinct setting, I'd recommend any of the WAB stories. In terms of translated games, you have Sekien no Inganock, or Shikkoku no Sharnoth to chose from. I'd recommend starting from Inganock, as it introduces you to the realm nicely, although it's not really required, if you feel more interested to start with Sharnoth. Saya no Uta wouldn't be bad, either; it's propably one of the few games with a meaningful, compelling story based on cthulhu mythos; it's only drawback is, that it's really not for those faint of heart. It's also preety drastic, but nevertheless a good starting choice, if you don't mind gritty tales. I'd also recommend True Remembrance as a pure classic; it's really good, especially if you want something distinct, a bit lighter, but still serious enough. edit: I forgot about Planetarian. It's a must read for any post-apo/sci-fi fan.

Saying "it's no fun, but totally worth it" remains the exact kind of giving the devs consent to continue, what they've been getting away with for the past 15 years or so. You know there's something wrong with a game, when it turns into a second job; it's something that shouldn't even happen, but exactly what modern mmorpg devs want, because it turns in profit, especially in terms of f2p business models. It's not really even a matter, whether f2p is better than p2p (protip: it isn't; it's just better suited for modern industry business), but a matter of market oversaturation and incredible competition, which forces devs to support their games rather via cash shops, than subscription fees they can't even fully rely on; it's because subscription based gaming requires a lot bigger commitment (both financial and psychological), while cash shops often sell instant gratification most players long for so much. It's that "no hands tied, no responsibility taken" business, that made mmorpg's go down the drain and created the modern market.

Topic title made me cringe. Grinding is an godawful mechanic, introduced to walk around the design limitations in most role playing oriented games; it allows for easy level-based content progression and artificially bloats the game content by tricking people into beliving they're actually doing something meaningful, while in reality they're just forced to remain in one spot for countless hours, hitting a single type of mob, over and over again.

Eiyuu Senki plays very similiar to Sengoku Rance, it simply has a lot better art, character designs and aesthetics. With it's multicultural references, it could actually prove to be an interesting ero-slg for the western audience. Sadly, TENCO has a rather negative history when it comes to embracing it's western fanbase and remain more or less reluctant to release anything. I'm not even sure how Fruitbat managed to secure the all-ages port of the game, but considering they only specialize in games like these, I doubt we'll ever see an 18+ release.

If you're looking for actual monster girl vn's, you're looking at the wrong developer. Vanadis makes a lot better games and without the shitty role playing aspect. Unfortunately, they aren't translated.

Took them time. I wonder if it'll at least pay off the localization costs.

One of the most stable and balanced mmorpg's in the entire history of genre; that said, I lost my hope in those games long time ago and there's been hardly anything new since the advent of first sandbox mmorpg's. If anything, we're currently stuck in a neverending circle of stagnation and the more new mmorpg's come out every year and the more oversaturated market becomes with them, the less chance there is we'll see something as magnificent as L2 or WOW back in the old days. Aside from that, I don't feel like commiting 3/4 of my life towards another game and even pay for it.

UN Envoy Calls On Japan To Ban Drawn Underage Pornography
Narcosis replied to Funyarinpa's topic in Anime/Manga Talk
At times like these I lose all faith in humanity... considering I ever had any to start with. Its the same kind of a straw man argument used against anything we find "morally" disgusting, yet have no clear evidence, nor facts to back up those theories. Within that logic, FPS games create murderers, raising animals promotes bestiality and everyone who's not a feminist is pro-rape. I can't even remember when was the last time, UN did something useful, besides constantly draining our hard earned tax money. More like, when fictional children are given more care than the real ones. -

When there's no cat girls. -
anime and manga are similarily suffering from whats become commonly known as moefication of mind, as everyone can see based on its sales, with many great shows like paracyte and others, that decided on beeing non clichee, but unique having failed hard in reaching the magical manabi line, whereas generic garbage keeps on popping out and often selling like fuck, regardless of its actual quality, or such, furthermore encouraging those who believe creation of mediocrity, by going down the generic, non risky path, is the right thing of doing so, from which the whole industry will benefit at the end. This trend will likely continue, as it's becoming increasingly difficult to end up being successful with truly original, non-standard content. It's much easier and more importantly - cheaper to churn out average, mid-length moege than produce a high quality game that doesn't cater to everyone's tastes.

Net Neutrality In The EU Is Under Attack
Narcosis replied to Nosebleed's topic in General Discussion
The future is looking bleak... In worst case, technically we as well as couple other countries could opt out from EU. Is it really possible, though? I don't think so, as the whole Europe practically became a slave to EU.
