Deciding What To Do With The Rest of My Life

The Market of VNs Around the World - Discussion
Mr Poltroon replied to OriginalRen's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I'm almost positive he gave up all logical arguing since he lost earlier today. I suggest paying no further heed to his random ramblings. -
I cannot simply let an opportunity to inquire about others' opinion of me pass. (Feel free to correct the sentence if I made a mistake. I'm a man who likes living on the edge and abusing the language wherever possible.)

Upon reading this, I had the strangest urge to come by and wish you a lovely day.
How mysterious. -
9/10 Very refined looking lady. And a good deal of cute, too.

Jesus Christ, there was so much headache-inducing arguing about this title I didn't even notice it got released. ...Much as I love it, gotta save up for, finally finally finally, CLANNAD.
-
To reiterate, Confession: I'm playing games again, which means my concentration for other stuff has been reduced to a 4th. Oh joy.
-
I wish I had as much of an exciting life as you... Er... No no no, I'll stay back here in my comfy house. But please, don't let me keep you, go set yourself on fire or whatever.
-
Ahh, the ol' Red Dead Redemption poker tactic. When in doubt, raise like crazy, regardless of your hand. Confession: I have a spot on both wrists that, if I'm really cold, turn orange-ish. No idea why. Too many carrots.

PSA: You Can Now Follow Members
Mr Poltroon replied to babiker's topic in Community Coordination and Feedback
With good reason, as should be obvious. ...That reason being that on the first day I immediately jumped into following every single person I recalled were part of my previous friend list. I irrefutably forgot some. -
Pretty sure he was responding to Abyssal's post about lacking discipline and saving himself until he's 30. And being envious of a relationship implies they have someone you don't, for example a relationship. You really need to work on your reading comprehension Suit yourself. No no, please, allow me. I will endeavour to make good use of any opportunity to praise Ren's reading comprehension abilities. On many occasions have I found his ability to interpret things that just aren't there quite astonishing! Keep up the good work, my jolly good fellow.
-
Clearly you lack discipline. You need to protect yourself to the age of 30. For teh magikz! Do not be swayed by greener pastures, for with time, even they sink to ruin. The only thing that will never fail you is yourself and your powers. Indeed... Fufufu...

Are you telling me you seriously believe I need confirmation for my awesomeness? Confession: I actually do need people spurring me on in order to do things. It's one of my unfortunate shortcomings.
-
What? Am I not simply wondrously cute?
-
But you have a sister to keep you company. Truly, the only ones you can't ever get rid of are the annoying ones. I laughed so hard, ty for making my day, Tiaj You should leave a like, then. I feed on internet points.

Can confirm, I suck, am alone, don't be me. Cannot confirm. I'm amazing, am alone, what a mystery.

Uh, what's wrong with the current Muv Luv translation? I saw nothing wrong with it, it wasn't Mirror Moon level perhaps, but it was above average for a fan translation. I haven't read Muv-Luv in Japanese but Ixrec simply isn't a very good translator. His translations are overly stiff and full of bad writing and weird phrasing. Muv-Luv isn't exactly known for its beautiful prose so it probably doesn't suffer as much in that regard as for example his translations of Comyu, Inganock or Rewrite but bad prose isn't the only issue with his work. It is often overly literal which gives me the impression that he doesn't know Japanese very well (at least not well enough to be translating), a lot of his translations basically seem like he looked up the words or kanji in a dictionary and just inserted the first definition that appeared. Like he apparently translated 紐 as shoestring in Rewrite for example which is an incredibly amateurish mistake. A lot of people have impressions like "Ixrec's translations might be a bit stiff but otherwise they're correct" or something like that but this isn't true. When he translated Muv-Luv there wasn't a lot criticism as the state of VN translations back then were pretty bad in general. If you've look up stuff from Rewrite and Comyu though which he did later you'll find tons of tons of examples that are just flat out wrong. Some examples from Rewrite: All of these are wrong. They're not just badly phrased. They are wrong. Yet without seeing the Japanese you wouldn't know as they all make sense and are grammatically correct. The first two sentences are also incredibly easy, they're on the level that someone like me who has known enough Japanese to be able to read VNs in less than a year could translate them correctly. And if his Rewrite translation is full of mistakes like these that certainly doesn't imply good things about his earlier muv-luv translation. I've read both Comyu and Ingaock. I saw absolutely nothing wrong or stiff about their translations. They come across to me as very well done VNs. I dunno where you have this myth that "in 2010, VN Translations weren't known for their quality" So when did they become known for their quality? He didn't machine translate. The story all flowed very naturally, nothing confused me, and I understood all the characters personalities. If he's so shitty at it, you should translate them then. You should understand that your argument is sort of pointless when one of the core arguments Beato made is that someone who can't read Japanese wouldn't notice any errors. Of course, I'm jumping the gun and presuming you don't know Japanese. If you do indeed, (why did you read the TL?) it's sort of weird Beato thinks they are wrong and you think they are right.

I don't know what everyone's barking about but you aren't entitled to anything more than what the kickstarter promised; regardless of how filthy rich they come off from this. Everyone knew exactly what they were promised when they backed, how many people and how much money was backed is entirely irrelevant to the equation. Still, it's certainly nice to wish aloud. They don't seem like they're all that evil, if not better the translation they probably plan on doing something with the extra money.

I actually do agree. I'd be much more likely to distrust the drunk driver in front of me than machine that's currently driving itself. I don't really know he's drunk until it's too late, you see, when he ends up in a face-to-lightpost situation and I end up in a face-to-trunk phenomenon. If he wants to talk about glitches, the other day my friend's fuel gauge broke and he ended up stuck smack dab in the middle of Australia, never to be seen again. I know this 'cause a little birdie told me. It was also a vulture, though that's probably not a good sign. It's not the newfangled machinery that's going to make this phenomenon much worse than it already is. I'm going to be at risk either way. Might as well be the thoroughly tested and bug-fixed machinery than to make a point of never driving at night lest I run into the next national car race championship candidate. And then somehow still run into someone who's driving out there without a wink of sleep, simultaneously on his cellphone; which is good, it'll be that much easier to phone the hospital that way.

No, no, no. This one's definitely real. A post like what you see here could only ever possibly be produced by our resident grumbling old man. And it's all the better for it. Bravo indeed.

Unfortunately, having read the manga this year, that one is likely destined to stay there for a couple more years. Poor anime. -
Oh, The (Tricky) Editing Mistakes I Have Made (Part 2 of ∞)
Mr Poltroon commented on Darbury's blog entry in re:Edit
No, no, you are entirely mistaken. My interest in male genitals increases threefold per giant, blurry pixel. As for the translation choice, I'm not a native, tricky sounds as English as any other word to me. Same goes for useless. If anything, I found it curious how it had been translated as "tricky", which I hadn't seen before, but that's about it. -
I wish you luck with the recovery. Recovery? There's really not much to recover from. Sure, I'll take some medicine for a couple of months, see if it makes it better, but other than that it's never caused me any problems and I am not expecting it to, either. Call me an optimist. My mother's family's just blessed with allergies all over the place and still always manage to live until 90 years old. In contrast, my father's family has got people like my grandmother, who eats as healthy as can be and still does jogging to this day and is inflicted with a bunch of diseases which mostly stem from unhealthy eating habits she never even had. Never put anything in your ears. Take it from the dab hand, neither putting water in your ears nor using q-tips is good for you. Well, you can clean the outside bit, of course. Just never put anything in your canal. Your ears have mechanisms to clean themselves. If you try to do it yourself you could end up like me (Except I've got bad allergies I never knew I had on top of it). Doctor even recommended I use tampons for bathing. She also said that if I am to clean my ear canal, "Do it with your elbows."
