  1. Confession: I got a Steins;Gate code for free thanks to a giveaway. Gotta love Pqube. Tiiiiime for a reread
  2. Well, it's kind of sad to see you go. You'll be missed. However, I hope you find what you're looking for and have one hell of a time! You're welcome back anytime you want, your spot is always reserved here. Here, have a farewell OST:
  3. I loved ever17 most of the way through. WELP. also, lmfao Also, Sora's route is the most touching love story I've ever seen bar The House In Fata morgana, so there's that.
  4. I knew I wasn't the only one anyways, happy 1K! question: have you played the house in fata morgana followup: if you haven't, WHY
  5. aw thanks :> god fucking dammit
  6. THEY SAID SHE WAS NOT REAL TAKE THAT, WORLD
  7. If darkness or traumatic events or violence will keep you from playing a game, this game isn't yours. The ambience can certainly be creepy at times but there are no jumpscares. Vague but major spoilers:
  8. Giselle had me with her first smile
  9. thanks! >w<
  10. should not have opened that spoiler welp
  11. getting a 404 For me, how utterly different these scenes felt while knowing the pasts of the characters justified repetition- In fact, it being repetition enhanced the experience for me. For example,
  12. muv luv alternative is a fucking technical marvel but is not worth it as a VN Remember11 has lip sync but I ain't sure it counts seeing as it had 1/3 of the plot cut out due to budgetary matters
  13. Stylish as hell, likable cast, wonderful OST, love it. Vita for portability but doesn't matter much.
  14. Not working at all at school in the last three years.
  15. Honestly, the true answer really depends on the story and the way it is told- even more so the latter than the former, seeing as retelling the story from a different perspective can change the entire feeling and theme of the story- and since I hate the average moege I have no definitive or sufficiently broad answer for you, I'm afraid. There are some VNs that propose original approaches to the issue though: Infinity VNs, I second- namely Ever17 and Remember11 deal with the concept in an incredibly entertaining and mindfuck way and they're in my top five for that. Same goes for 999 and Virtue's Last Reward. The House In Fata Morgana has you part full and part limited omniscient as well as first person bits, it really jumps around with it and makes absolutely incredible use of that- VNOTY. Umineko is similar in that it has many different perspectives, and it really helps that the broad cast of characters means you can see a ton of character interaction that could simply not be reasonably spun and revolved around a single protagonist- a great strength especially in a VN with a large cast as large as Umineko. As for the "blank, self-insert protag" as opposed to "protagonist with personality", I'd say having a protagonist with a personality of its own is far superior. I do sympathize more with self-insert protagonists since the common archetype is similar to me, and it creates better engagement, but it crucially harms the story: The self-insert story gouges a hole in itself to accommodate the reader. Feeling like an outside observer to a story with a far better and fleshed out centerpiece is something I personally find far more enjoyable. However, that doesn't mean one should enjoy feeling like they are incredibly different from the protagonist and their personality- the challenge of the writer is to create such a protagonist that their troubles, emotions and thoughts line up as harmoniously as possible with the reader(s), that the reader learns the same lessons as the protagonist, that the reader and protagonist live the same life, dance to the same tune- enjoy days of serenity and happiness, worry at negative plot developments, and never forget the deepest losses and the brightest smiles. That is not to say that creating a protagonist at odds with the targeted reader's morality/expectations is a bad thing at all, though. Saya no Uta pretty much does that, for example: A jaded, selfish and evil outlook at the world that, I presume, didn't exactly resonate with most readers. However, SnU would not be the same without it- sometimes, it suffices to be able to comprehend and/or infer the personality, thoughts and motives of the protagonist- however, the closer to the reader a protagonist is without losing their own identity, the easier it is to create emotional engagement.
  16. I'm proud to finally see some fucking Danganronpa shitposting on here Fata Morgana has fandiscs? AAAAA (Fake edit: one fandisc is 1/3 translated as of yesterday. fucking kill me) In other news, I bought a proper fountain pen after loving a nonrefillable cheap one last year and promptly realized it's way too heavy and that I have to hold all pens and pencils with 4 fingers now for some reason. I love it ANYWAYS In yet other news, 11th grade begins for me tomorrow- last full schoolyear I have before I apply for university, which means it is time for me to fucking DOUBLE DOWN on raising my GPA, study APs in my time I was lazy to meet the minimum GPA average to take the courses at school, decide on one and study for SAT/ACT, and find universities that I feel confident in studying astrophysics in and being accepted to. Also means I'm gonna have to open up, show leadership, take the initiative on some stuff, probably organize something about arts or something -I have peers that have organized art collectives, civil service events, already cracking down on their SAT study, hell, I follow this woman on twitter who founded an NGO at sixteen), participate in civil service acts, open up socially, learn how to organize my time from the fucking ground up, start to properly dabble in writing -I'm confident in it somewhat from the couple things I wrote-, perhaps get some more presentable hobbies beyond reading and gaming and occasional hangout with friends, foster and demonstrate an interest and somehow experience in astrophysics -no idea where the fuck I can intern since I doubt I'm fit or interested in practical research not to mention astrophysics, hell, theoretical physics as a whole that I'm interested in, is quite difficult to get practice for with halfway high school physics with bad math. And with a year to do all that I have absolutely no idea how to do any of it, nor any excuse for not having done so so far in my last three years of high school which I spent gaming and on the internet and then shallowly lamenting my laziness. A perhaps big bonus, though, is that I've decided to quit gaming (including VNs) 95% for the following schoolyear, and I put my Vita and my 3DS in my cupboard and I'm doing fine about it so far (some five summer days in), though I have taken an unexpected liking to playing solitaire on my Nokia (smartphone was sent in for repairs and is as expected in a neo-Kafkaesque customer service limbo). Decided to spend my free time at home with reading instead, and after finishing The Hunchback Of Notre Dame (school homework read) today after reading 450 pages in the last two days (not that I loved it or anything, but wanted to challenge myself I guess and school began tomorrow and since I love books I wanted to finish it in time) I think I have it in me. Rereading Asimov's Foundation now because I never got around to the sequel Foundation and Empire, seeing as it has a far more interesting premise than the disappointing and somewhat bland first book, I'm enjoying it actually. Up next is one of the following: *Great Expectations by Dickens just because I found a really good condition English copy at home and I never read Dickens before, *Foundation and Empire, *The Silmarillion by Tolkien- although I loathed Lord of the Rings' plot and banal cast two years ago, the world building was quite promising and as such I decided to give this book criticized for doubling down on the lore-craft another chance, or *The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin because I got the whole Earthsea quadriology back in May or so and after rereading the first book (A Wizard of Earthsea) and realizing it is Top 10 tier I have to read the rest.
  17. Well, I ain't too impressed by the remaster- but hey, it's free for the owners of Bioshock 1 and 2 on Steam so I ain't complaining. Hope they'd fixed the BS1 gunplay, though. Sigh
  18. do tell more. Is it translated? Anyways, usually they are obnoxious to the point of turning me off from the cast, but one notable exception is YU-NO: In that game the pervy attitude meshed really well with the protagonist's overall brash and carefree/careless personality. Seeing that develop late into the VN into something different and grander made it even better.
  19. 1) shit is fucking great 2) do not, I repeat, do NOT move on to Satoru Route before getting all bad ends in Kokoro's route that you can. Shit becomes crazy grinding. (Isn't exactly necessary to do either way)
  20. well rip fucking pu you will be dearly missed, just not by the tornado
  21. Awh, proud of you! Also holy fuck that writing correction thing sounds fucked
  22. Saya no Uta (Song of Saya). Warning: Pretty much as fucked up as a VN gets before going into deep eroge territory
  23. one and fucking done Hot damn that was like all of my runner-up ideas lol. Also, while I haven't read it personally yet, Forest might fit your criteria. I hear it is one of the most surreal VNs out there.
