Honestly I'm trying to think of how Rise could be considered selfish and I'm not coming up with much. Almost all of the drama in the route is pretty much caused by Masaya's trademark indecisiveness, anyways.
-
No, she's really adorable all throughout her route. I never once thought she was being bitchy or whatever. She was acting jealous every once in a while, but that aspect was no worse than Chiho during her route. She didn't come off as selfish to me at all.

Well, Ayakashibito isn't apocalyptic in theme, so if all you're looking for is action with high stakes alongside the romance, I would recommend you find a way to install it. Also Coμ fills that category. This is a minor spoiler for the game itself as it isn't obvious up-front about it, but Rewrite is about combating the apocalypse, basically, and has romance alongside that.

Someone started to translate Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai
Decay replied to Revyateil's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
He did weekly updates and has been gone for six or seven weeks now, obviously something went awry but hopefully it's nothing major and everything returns to business as usual soon. This kind of thing happens very often with fan translations. -
Another hype train? (07th Expansion's new project)
Decay replied to Vario's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Not even 07th Expansion, the original developers themselves, were allowed to use the console-exclusive art, or any of the other chapters that were exclusive to the Alchemist releases in Hou, which they only put out a year ago. The rights to all that is a tangled mess and when not even the original devs have full access, you better believe that MangaGamer won't. They're doing the best with what they have, really. -
Another hype train? (07th Expansion's new project)
Decay replied to Vario's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Negotiations are a two-way street. It has nothing to do with Sui being a PS3/Vita release, and everything to do with Alchemist, who owns the rights to the art, all of the console-exclusive arcs, and a bunch of other stuff relating to that version of Higurashi. MangaGamer has tried negotiating with Alchemist before, they want access to that stuff, they definitely didn't want to have to pay an artist to make yet another set of sprites. But Alchemist isn't having any of it, it seems. Either their asking price is too high or there are other issues involved. You realize that MangaGamer is drawing new sprites for everything, right? Or are the new ones the ones you're taking issue with? -
Just keep reading. You probably don't want to open up any spoiler boxes for this one.

For the first heroic fight, I used a Paladin deck which can control the board with spells (humility, equality/consecrate, etc) while having almost all of the minions be huge. The only non-huge minions were aldor peacekeepers. It worked out pretty well.

Another hype train? (07th Expansion's new project)
Decay replied to Vario's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Hmm, well, the first four may be a bit shorter, the second four about on par. The side arcs, like the ones in Rei, are usually a fair bit shorter. At reading what I believe to be at the same pace, I finished Higurashi in about 3/4ths the time it took me to finish Umineko (the eight main arcs for each). -
Ritsuko's route is pretty adorable, yeah. It's kind of refreshing to have such a completely innocent and sweet relationship in an eroge. There's no real drama about how they hook up, either, unlike the other routes. They pursue each other right from the get-go and they make it as sugary sweet as possible, it's cute. She should have had more scenes about her in the common route, though.

Sui contains 19 arcs compared to Hou's 14. Yes, it's kind of ridiculous. -

That is inaccurate information, there are a lot of arcs that aren't included in Hou, like the DS and PS2 exclusive ones. Sui is the comprehensive version that contains everything, and despite what MG says, is the real definitive edition. Hou still has a lot of arcs, though. -
Eh, this is an exaggeration, after about 10 or so minutes of practice I was able to do the hidden blade counter about 75% of the time in AC1. It really wasn't that hard. In AC2 combat was pretty easy, though, and in Brotherhood and beyond, it was downright trivial. Once they added the feature where you could chain instant-kills just by continuing to attack without getting hit, any difficulty in combat was completely gone.

Paying for translations? Illegal? Been done before?
Decay replied to tahu157's topic in Fan Translation Discussion
They usually don't oppose it if money isn't involved. But they will get real salty once someone starts profiting off of their work without them getting a cut. -
You don't have to do them in order if you're playing the realta nua version (you should be playing the realta nua version), but you should do so anyways. Each of the three routes focuses on a different heroine, Saber, Rin, and Sakura respectively. In the original version, the split point was really early in, after only a couple hours, and then you had three very long and completely independent routes. In Realta Nua, each route is basically presented as a stand-alone VN. The routes are pretty much linear in their story but posses a multitude of choices that can lead to bad ends or less good final endings.

Another hype train? (07th Expansion's new project)
Decay replied to Vario's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I'll say one thing about Ryukishi, I think he's actually a pretty competent character designer, and most of his character designs are better than the ones you see in most VNs. Just let someone else draw the final sprites for goodness sake. -
The deadbeat label does literally nothing as far as I know, it's simply a mark of shame. Using that dungeon makes the game easier, if you're getting bothered by the grind or whatever, use the dungeon.

Another hype train? (07th Expansion's new project)
Decay replied to Vario's topic in Visual Novel Talk
I mean, the alchemist sprites almost replicate the expressions exactly. I honestly think Alchemist did an exceptional job with the PS3 version of Umineko. The voicework is great, and the new art is great and matches the Umineko's setting and general mood very well. It's about a million times better than their Higurashi port. I mean, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but don't act as if the PS3 version's sprites are somehow less expressive when that simply isn't the case at all. -
I'm pretty sure I found it while searching for a walkthrough as well. Can't remember which VN, though.
-
There are five of them plus four after stories. If each one is just a couple hours each, that would fall well within that range.
-
The fandisc scenarios are "short stories" and not full routes.

I always get confused when they people about how expressive Umineko's original faces are, because the PS3 sprites are just as expressive, IMO.
