Equality and individualism is a contradiction, since individualism is bound to trample on the rights of others. Collectivism and status is also a contradiction. since those in higher standing will get prioritized attention. There is the exception where the child is equally exposed to both cultures since birth. That way their thinking is wired so that both cultures appear to be seamless. When a baby grows up learning more than one language simultaneously, they can access both languages as though they are one.

Hey I finally have something good to rant about. I hate surveys. I had to fill out a 200 questionnaire survey about my job today. It lasted about 5 hours because you wouldn't imagine how tedious it gets when it asks you to provide the same answers 3x throughout the survey. Those redundant questions mostly dealt with specific details you'd have to wrack your brain to recall or open up your account book to remember so you don't mess up by a penny. I had to get up and take 4 breaks. On one break I didn't plan on returning. At the end of the survey, I gave the editor a piece of my mind lol, starting of with, "I offer my humblest opinion..." and it ended up not so humbly. I remarked in one pargraphy, "I personally do not look forward to filling out another survey made in this formula by whoever thought it was a good idea. The mental pain and anguish caused by this survey cannot be underestimated..." To all surveys, you can die stacked up in a cabinet somewhere, never seeing the light of day again.

いる＋ある usage I have this fill in the blank assignment, I need to use either/or to complete the sentence. Then I translate it. This sentence seems like I could fill in either verb though, depending how I translate it into English. Here's the given incomplete sentence: Nihongo no kurasu wa maishuu getsuyoubi to suiyoubi ni. I translated into English as "I have Japanese class every Monday and Wednesday" and I used the verb form imasu because of the animate thing, "I have." The book's answer however was "My Japanese class is every Monday and Wednesday," and it used arimasu to describe the inanimate, "class." Was I completely wrong in the first sentence?
