Honestly, Planetarian and Hate Story are the only worthwhile ones atm, the rest are pretty much just short, brainless fluff. (but my standards are a bit harsh when it comes to the stuff that hits Steam) EDIT: actually I take that back, Fault - Milestone One and World End Economica Chapter 1 are good reads - if you don't mind when a dev splits up and sells a story in multiple parts. -_-

Meh, it really boils down to culture shock. One side thinks they are correct, and that the other side is wrong. And vice versa, etc, etc.

Gah...fair points. (damn you logic, you've won... this time!) I guess it is easy to overlook some of the questionable stuff when one has become desensitized to it. Or by trying to defend/justify against it due to better works in the same genre. But one thing I can say, some of the best VNs I've read avoid fanservice sexy/cute stuff. But yeah, they are in the minority, and things like nekopara "are" in the majority, hell just look at vndb's vast majority lol.

I'll have to look into Kirakira for starters, if nothing else then to experiment. .xp3...that sounds like fate series and a few others. Ayakashibito looks abit more complicated (from a outsiders perspective) it has multiple .war files and a handful of folders and misc stuff. A bit out of my reach as a novice lol. But nothing time cannot cure.

I hate it when things like Nekopara get published on Steam, for this very reason. It alienates the genre and reinforces preconceptions. But on the other hand, it doesn't matter on the reactions it gets - publicity is publicity - and will draw in more sales and interest.

Speaking of gameplay, I swore I read somewhere that Princess Evangile has actual gameplay in it... is that right? or am I way off? If it does, I may actually think about getting it.

I can't speak for others, but I only see titles that MG will likely "never" touch anyway getting fan TLs (which in part is probably why they get TL'd unofficially). It's all about accessibility - if a product is easy to get through a legit source, I will happily pay for it - but if I have to choose between import/export hell (or outright impossible to get a hold of), versus a torrent...well, no one gave me a third option~ Some faulty reasoning in there, I know, but still~ MG blaming fan TLs for their bad sales/xenophobic devs is just lol, because the type of VNs they localize versus the type that are fan Tl'd are often worlds apart. Well...actually, I can see a connection afterall, a lot (not all) of MGs games are pretty terrible - when a group fan TL's something like Fate/Stay Night, suddenly the community realizes just how terrible a lot of MGs titles are - and at that point, who wants to spend money on cheap fap material, besides a portion of Steam users? (zing!) But that's just my feeling on the matter - and it's probably an ignorant opinion based on just my reasoning.

Greetings gentle sirs and madams : P An idea recently struck me, and I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for resources and more in-depth info. I would like to modify existing patches for games I own (such as Ayakashibito), so that the H-scenes are removed/locked away. My rational is I could then share it safely with people I know, that are new to VNs, but show interest. Any advice, wisdom, or knowledge you can pass on when it comes to manipulating the files, and what programs to use, would be welcome.

Gosick - though the wedding is more implied then actually shown. But still a really good romance imo. (the anime anyway, I have still not read the manga series)

Has to be a pretty damn worthwhile game for 400+ bucks (subjective to location). What game? I still haven't seen anything making the PS4 worthwhile - Persona5 is tempting, but unless there's a huge difference between the ps3 and ps4 version, I'll just stick with ps3.

I prefer voice acting (if Japanese. I'm one of those people that dislike English VAs), but I can still enjoy a non-VA'd visual novel - just takes a little bit for me to get used to it... I eventually just simulate their voices through my imagination.
