  3. OH MY FUCKING GOD I stopped reading literally less than 10 fucking lines before the reveal of who archer is, fuck my life... that twist tho :)) fate/stay night could have easily been one of the greatest jrpg's of all time, hell you've got a perfect foundation with all the stats and special powers that the servants have

  7. Unedited interface of the trial. Hello guys. I'm back from my short vacation so I'll continue to post the progress weekly as always. Hasa's latest update was because I went MIA for a week, so yeah, sorry about that. Team matters are going extremely well, I hope things keep being the same as they have been for the last weeks. Progress this week has boomed due to several lines of a number of scripts being repeated, which made their "translation" fairly easy and fast. The editing in the prologue has been finished and the proofreading as well as the TLC are almost finished (When I say editing, I include TLC'ed lines too.). I'll be probably posting a very big announcement regarding our team plans fairly soon. We've gathered enough man power to be able to host 2 projects at the same time. The second project has been decided, and it will involve our team taking over a project that has already been started. I will not tell what game/project it is until the preparations are done, but what I can say is that it has been up for several years if I'm not mistaken and that is currently stalled. If everything goes well and negotiations go smoothly then I'll present our secondary team for the project as well as giving a huge breakdown talking about what will you expect of us when we take over said project. About the prologue patch, the only things left to do are: 1. Translating the interface and inserting the new images. (Currently in progress.) 2. Beta testing/QC. We'll release the patch for both the full game and the trial (although I recommend the latter for this one). I'll post it here, in the project thread and in the website, but if by some chance you're interested in applying for the position for Beta Testing of the patch then either post a comment in the website or PM me through here. The job is fairly simple: play our prologue patch and give us feedback about the quality of the translation/editing, both good and bad aspects as well as some advice about which areas should we improve. I'll open 2 slots for Beta Testing. By the way, the reviews have to be somewhat complex, I'm not looking for something simple like "It has good/bad English, I approve/disapprove". They will sort of be QC's but not fully. Other than that I'll post the progress. DISCLAIMER: Do not expect this speed for normal weeks, this one has happened to be rather special. Translation: 6866 (17,0762%) - PROLOGUE FINISHED Edit: 4296 (10,6844%) - PROLOGUE FINISHED Proofreading: FIRST PASS OF THE PROLOGUE FINISHED (20/20 scripts)

  10. No, in general. A-1 keeps the feeling going from the (good routes) of S, which kept the feeling of the first game. This basically means that finishing A-1 feels like going all over again the sadness of "I just finished Majikoia... sigh... *looks out the window, longingly*"

  11. OH BOY, THIS IS THE THREAD FOR ME! Hmm, where do I start? Clannad: Mediocre at best. Terrible humor (with the exception of Nagisa's parents), bloated, uneven pacing, strange narrative choices, focus on emotional impact to a huge detriment of... well, common sense, really. One of the few VNs that made me genuinely fucking angry at various points. Grisaia no Kajitsu: Godawful protagonist, shamelessly bloated in the common route, plot inconsistencies everywhere, some narrative choices annoyed the fuck out of me as well. Should have also been set in an alternate universe or alternate future, cause it's impossible not to ruin the immersion with all the completely over-the-top unrealistic stuff that's not so much impressive as it is vexing. Shuffle!: Fuck Shuffle! Demonbane: Well, that's more of my own personal problem, but I was promised a Lovecraftian story and what I got was Lovecraftian in name only. They could've used names from Shakespeare's works and call it Shakespearean with roughly the same effect. Hoshizora no Memoria: A character-focused title without any good characters. The plot wasn't particularly inspired either. G-Senjou no Maou: It wasn't a bad read, and I hesitated to include it in this list, but after reading Sharin no Kuni it was a definite letdown in comparison.

  12. VA-11 HALL-A turned out to be pretty excellent. It's those kind of games with lot of heart that I really like. It's obviously made with lot of love for Cyberpunk and Japanese popular culture, a weird mix that works. The setting both parody and depressing portrayal of itself, as well as parody of modern times. Waifuboom 2010s, click-bait newspapers, VR-porn... There's lots of anime references, but mostly as secondary punchline. Core part of the game is just talking with various clientele. The characters are wonderfully varied, some more important than others, but seeing new ones is always exciting. There might be few that rub you the wrong way, but it's strange how fast your view of the people might change after talking a bit a sharing a drink. Much of it is thanks to the writing, which is witty, engaging and very life-like. They dialogue is snappy and entertaining, and manage to be clear and not unnecessary complicated while talking about more heavier themes like politics. Through dialogue with the clients you get to know them better and learn about their stories. And while It's interesting to learn more about them, at some point I just started look forward to seeing the familiar faces again, hearing what silly things they have to say. Or serious topics too, VA-11 HALL-A doesn't shy way from more darker themes. Depression, insecurities and so on, these are handled pretty naturally, but never become too overwhelming. VA-11 HALL-A is just nice heartful game about human interaction. It's silly and little grim at the same time, but very humane overall. People don't change fundamentally that much, be it dystopian future or whatever. There's good and bad times, work sucks and future is scary. And there's always a need for a cup of alcohol and someone to talk. Sometimes you might even find a friend that way. The developers suggestion is very apt, VA-11 HALL-A is best enjoyed by getting comfy, maybe with drink in hand. And just enjoy the good music, great atmosphere and have fun with the story and the characters.

  14. A bit of an odd question, so let me spell it out a little: Are the things we consider to be right or wrong in our every day lives, also right/wrong in an online environment such as an MMO? This may sound like an easy question, but I can't really think of a satisfying answer. Let me show ya'll an example that happened to me once: In the very first MMO I played, I was trading with this one fella I randomly met. It was a very expensive and rare item he had, and he gave me quite a big discount (almost 50%). During the transaction, he accidentally clicked "accept" when I'd yet to give him any money. So I ended up with a rare item and he had nothing. He immediately begged me to give him the money, and since it felt wrong I just gave it to him. Later, after I told my other online friend about this incident, he laughed at me and said "why'd you apply your morals to an MMO? It's just a game. You're ok with raiding a party and stealing all their equipment, but this is too much for you?" I... Didn't have much of a response at the time and just dismissed it as two very different scenarios. But when I thought more about it, I realized that people do tend to create their own online "moral code", especially those who've played for a large amount of time in a particular game. I'm mostly familiar with Hearthstone, but you have stuff like stream sniping, in which one player runs into another that happens to stream, opens the other's stream to see his cards and predict his moves. Many have called it "wrong", but is it really? You can simply use the "it's just a game" justification here too. Who can really decide what's wrong or right in a game other than the creators themselves?

    need a bit of advice.

Hmm... I'd say you're much better off trying with Sekai Project. I know several indie developers that have already had their projects underway & even published. If you know titles like Sunrider: Liberation Day, that's one such example. Also as the others said you have a much higher chance assembling your own team. If you already have the scripts & team set up & are determined to make this work, kickstarter is a good place to get funding if that's what you're looking for. Don't bother with the bigwigs on Japan, you'd have to literally be a shooting star in their eyes to be picked from the thousands upon thousands of writers that's submitting their own application. Hope this helps & good luck with your VN project.

    need a bit of advice.

Japanese companies like Key and Nitroplus are massively famous, and have legions of able writers waiting in line to work for them. You'd have to go off the scale to prove yourself to them. Besides Japanese companies will picture you as an unrefined gaijin. Also, does your story fit with Japanese mindset and customs? If not, you're better off picking a Western company.

  21. Well, yeah, it's a bit of unfair bashing. But it's just like, we all know how good S could had been. I mean, they took Majikoi and added many more characters, all of them really awesome (which is an incredible achievement, considering that the first game already had a huge cast). But instead of giving them the Majikoi treatment, they made some weird, super short routes that only focused on the H-content. S is not bad, but it has such a huge amount of wasted potential, that you can't help but feel annoyed at it. Even Koyuki's route. It was barely about her, and the ending didn't make me feel any better about how shit her life had been, because the route itself says it's all happening in an alternate universe. Meaning, there's no route in any of the Majikoi games where the main characters actually helped her, instead of letting her have a super shitty childhood. My favourite route is Monshiro's and, surprise, it's actually not about her being so adorable. It's because in her route, for the first time, Yamato actually moves forward in life. He goes to S class, he gets a super good job, and plans to get stronger to be able to defend her by himself. It was a genius idea for a route, actually having Yamato develop, instead of just being the same guy as in any other route. A cool change of pace. But they didn't even go half the way... they built the base of the idea, but stopped at him just going to S class. The rant is too strong. The more you love Majikoi, the more that love burns you

  22. The second half of the post could have well been from me, the first half... not so much. I wouldn't bash Fate or Kanon. Even if it's true that Kanon's VN art sucks nowadays, but I really liked the anime. And bashing Key art while having an avatar of a character from one of the VN's with Key's most questionable art would be kind of bizarre even for me...

  23. I'm the kind of person who, when given a choice in-game, needs to constantly force himself to be the bad guy. Morals apply in games, just not to the same extent they do irl. As for to what extent, that probably depends on the person.

  24. Agreeing to a trade and then taking advange of your partner's slipup to steal an item from them makes you an asshole, yes. When you open your MMO, you don't close reality. The things you do to other people still affect them, and still make them angry, sad, happy and everything else, just with slightly lesser impact. The only thing you gain is anonymity, as well as the ability to not face consequences for most of your actions. The fact people seem to automatically become assholes in those circunstances may or may not say something about human nature, though. I wouldn't know.

  25. Grisaia, for the reasons already mentioned. Boring common route that serves no purpose, appears to be realistic but has lots of over the top moments, and I didn't like the MC. It's not a bad VN, I gave it 7/10 (only for Michiru route). But I don't think it's as good as some people say.

  29. I have to say G-senjou no Maou. Not saying it was a bad game, (I still rated it an 8 lol,) but after all the hype that game had gotten, playing it was kind of a dissapointment to be honest. A lot of the mystery elements were easy to predict, leaving little impact on me during a big part of the story, and the third chapter was quite boring in my opinion. It wasn't bad, but the second chapter was so good, going from that to hearing about ice skating for hours was ... well, boring as fudge. The ending was still very good, I loved most of the characters and some of the mystery elements did still catch me by surprise, but overall it was not as good as I had hoped.

  34. Don't know what others think, but VA-11 HALL-A is enough of a visual novel for me. And it's pretty damn good. The characters are quirky and interesting and so is the dystopian setting. The random conversations in the bar are really engaging, flowing really naturally between silly and serious topics, much like random conversations normally tend to do. It also looks really dope, the soundtrack is a blast and the game just oozes character. Can't think of a better way to spend a nice summer evening. Time to mix up some more drinks, turn on the scan-lines, up the volume a notch and get back waifu bartending!

  36. Since they're all I've been reading lately, I'll take a moment to say good things about the last project I edited for and the one I'm currently editing: To Heart 2 is pretty entertaining. It's a straightforward moege with a huge cast of heroines, and to some extent represents the solidification of many of the tropes you see today. One interesting thing about this is that there are some tropes there that didn't end up being popular enough to become super common, but which might be to your taste. And on that note, I'd like to recommend: Tama-nee is the older sister figure you secretly wish you had in your life, but wouldn't admit to it even here. She was my favorite character I encountered in the game, even though her route didn't live up to her character. Also, her H-scene at the end of the route is intense And then there's the twins. They've got the opposite thing going on from Tama-nee - none of the characters on this route are as amazing as she, but the route is way, way better than I anticipated going in. The drama is surprisingly real. I was a little bit leery when I picked it up. I mean... twins? Sounds like an obvious play for whipping up teenage males into a frenzy without putting out too much effort. And, yeah, it is that. But it's also filled with relatable conflict and relationship difficulties that feel less like your typical moege artificial obstacles and more like understandable human problems. And then at the end: So yeah, play the twins' route, too. Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't heartily encourage you to play through all the bad ending scenes for the twins (one wrong choice and you'll land there, anyway). That's not just me wanting someone to read the stuff I edited - it's often legitimately hilarious, and one scene is crushingly heartbreaking. I'd find it a tragedy if nobody else ever played the game-within-the-game, Love Love New Heart, and equally tragic if you don't get to have your heart broken the way mine was by some of those scenes. And so, that leaves my current project, MajoKoiNikki: It's good. Like, really good. So far I've only read the prologue (which I've now read most of twice, and first-pass edited half of myself), but I'm very, very excited to keep reading and see what happens next, and I'm basically head over heels for all the characters. When we were divvying up first-pass edit duties for the character routes a couple days ago, I literally couldn't decide which routes I wanted because all the girls are so much fun. Look forward to it!
