A decent lot of the messages are only for random achievements; otherwise, it's not until chapter five that the first choice that is really important happens iirc. I'm somewhat in the same boat as you are, but I'd just recommend what you would normally do: accept calls from your target only, etc

Welcome; one way to find new Vns is to sort vndb by bayesian rating - it's fairly accurate. I'll add that you... probably shouldn't be using cursive text for every post. It gets annoying :s

The rainbow cd is arranged, though... and personally, I think it pales in comparison to the originals.

Have you tried running it... as a normal user? (partly assuming you don't have an admin account now...)

Moving it will break installs if they rely on registry and can't into checking the current directory as well, prepatched is another matter and depends on whether you had to run .bat files. If you did, you probably have to run them again. It's possible that this will leave a bit of a mess in the registry, but symphonic rain worked with two values for a registry entry thingy at least. If worried, there's always the option to move it back.

Windows has this thing about not letting programs mess around in Program Files (at this point you are free to say "wat"), so if you have it in C:\Program Files (or localized equivalent name) you might want to move it to somewhere else (I suggest going a head and making the folder C:\VNs 'cause it looks all neat and pro). It's possible Luch's suggestion will also fix this for the same reasons.

This was discussed in IRC fairly long a while ago. In the end, the mods don't want to take the potentially heavy load that comes from moderating comments; I imagine now they can just say "edit out the stupid shit then". Eventually naynay will prolly get at least the user reviews section up, and troubleshooting faqs are curently in progress on the forums; I guess they'll be linked to the vn dl pages eventually. Also anon comments like these have an extremely low barrier to entry, which is useful to decrease participation inequality -- it's too bad it will fill up with shit with some frequency.

The fact that it had disability as a theme was also a factor in making it stick out, since it caused some controversy. Also, KS is significantly more west-friendly in that its storylines are at least somewhat refreshing from the usual jp stuff, and there's much less ValuesDissonance in general imo. Also, while it might not be the best VN if you include translated ones, it's quite possibly the best OELVN out there (I haven't read that many, though.). On topic... if you like depressing stuff, apparently Narcissu is good. Haven't read it myself yet, one day...

Mouse + kb, don't really have a tablet so that's not an option. Wouldn't have the space anyway given my current desk area... Well well. It works out decently I personally regained my skill after switching from pure mouse to mouse+kb very quickly, I hadn't played for very long then though.
