Just finished Fractale. It wasn't anything special, but still quite interesting experience. The story was pretty simple, boy helps a girl to fight against fate/system, but the thing I enjoyed the most was the subtle way they handled some interesting philosophical topics. Topics like freedom, what is real, how real is virtual reality, what it means to be a human, what makes an individual and so on were touched slightly, in a way that it doesn't give you answers and leaves you thinking. It's also really sweet, the relationship between the three main characters was really heartwarming, I really liked all of main characters. The hero wasn't too thick headed, the heroine was interesting and not too typical, and the small girl was adorable and not annoying like most of the small kids in stories.

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?
Turnip Sensei replied to solidbatman's topic in Gaming Talk
Fun fact: there is actually a Polish witcher tv-show, though it looks pretty cheesy from what I saw. The gameplay in the Witcher 2 is so much better. The reason why the combat in witcher 1 is so awkward, is because the game is built on a engine for turn based RPGs, where as the sequel has proper engine for the action RPG. You can control your attacks more properly and it actually feels like you are in control of the character. You are going to miss the group style though, since the sequel doesn't have combat styles, only light and heavy attacks. They combo nicely so it doesn't feel restrictive, but the fights against large groups of enemies become pretty deadly. -
I finished Comyu today, I absolutely had to finish it before Witcher 3 releases. Totono will have to wait, I have this feeling that the time dedicated for reading visual novels will disappear at least for a week. Overall Comyu was pretty enjoyable experience. Especially the final route was really engaging and brought good conclusion. Still the Heroine 2 route with bad ending was my favorite.

Fuwanovel's Musical Extravaganza Official Thread
Turnip Sensei replied to OriginalRen's topic in Members' Lounge
I was quite fond of my cat, but maybe it's good to switch to something else every once in a while. I guess now is good time to use those amazing Persona 4 Arena Sprites. -
But they show stuff and especially the really weird visualizations in Bakemonogatari are awesome. The way the show things is just little different from the norm. And you got to give them credit for making normal conversations look as interesting. Normal anime would have static scene with one background, where as Bakemonogatari has changing angles, color filters, close ups, random scenery shots and so on. Artsy Shaft style might be really weird and not even always relevant, but I feel it's really fitting for the show. Without it Bakemonogatari would be boring anime with good story, with the weirdness it's unique and interesting anime with good story.

True Neutral Human Ranger/Sorcerer (1st/1st Level) Ability Scores: Strength- 13 Dexterity- 14 Constitution- 12 Intelligence- 15 Wisdom- 14 Charisma- 11 Wow, what weird combination, though ranger/sorcerer is pretty cool. Not everybody needs to be a fighting hero, I'm going to be the best outdoor guide with few magic tricks to entertain the travelers.

Show By Post! A Musical Band Creation Activity
Turnip Sensei replied to OriginalRen's topic in Members' Lounge
This could be fun. I might join if someone is willing to grab me. I'm obviously musical genius, I can play patapon on easy. My artistic skills are also on a level of Renaissance maister, which is proven by me getting 10 in random arts course. -
Right now I'm only playing Tales of Hearts, I have completed most of the interesting games that came out this spring. I'm really looking forward to summer and early autumn though, tons of really interesting games are coming out. Mainly Operation Abyss, Dungeon Travelers 2, Lost Dimension and Ar nosurge Plus. JRPGs are pretty much the only games I can get hyped about anymore. Also now that the Witcher 3 is coming out, I'm really hoping that it can make me as exited as the previous ones. I'm hearing good stuff about it but the recent incidents in gaming industry have made me super cynical about everything. It can't look at positive reviews anymore and believe that game is actually good. I'm pretty sure that Witcher 3 is going to be good, but distrust all around makes it really hard to get hyped. The overall rotten and dishonest atmosphere in the general gaming community just kills all excitement about everything. It was nice to be young and innocent and believe that the game you bought was the best thing ever and not care what others thought.

Upcoming Video Games: News, Trailers and More
Turnip Sensei replied to Stray Cat's topic in Gaming Talk
Except isn't the upcoming Dungeon Travelers 2 in Japanese only with subtitles? Wonder what the reason is, maybe Atlus didn't feel comfortable dubbing it? It does have some rather raunchy stuff voice acted. Or maybe the weeb is just too high in that game and they feel like it's just easier to go with the Japanese voices. -
Nowadays I rarely get as exited about games as did when I was smaller but the rare times I get exited about games now, I get even more exited than used to. It was more like when I was smaller everything felt amazing, but nothing felt super amazing. Newer Games like Witcher, Persona and Dark Souls have been such unforgettable experiences. I literally locked up in my room to play them and could hardly do anything else because I was so immersed in them and experienced excitement that topped my childhood experiences. So in a way my passion has become more unstable. It's harder to get even interested in most of the games, I gave up on AAA titles years. I'm playing less and I'm buying less games, because I can't find games that I want to play. I mostly play JRPGs now, those games haven't lost their charm yet. I like that style of game play and story telling so I can play those even when I'm not feeling super exited.

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?

You need to go in expecting a great story and amazing world. It's pretty unique take on dark fantasy, I think I once described it as a "realistic" medieval fantasy. The world is full of shit and misery as you would expect from medieval times, though everything goes through fantasy filter full of filth. Elves and Dwarves live as secondary citizens and are the target of racism and so on. And the grey morality is done well unlike in many RPGs, nothing is that simple in the world of witcher. The gameplay is pretty wonky in the first one to say the least, you need to click your attacks at specific times or it won't do anything. Still, it isn't that bad after you get used to it. You are missing a lot if you give up on the first one and go straight to second. Witcher is amazing experience, you should definitely play it. The prologue and chapter one might feel little bit too linear, but after that it opens up a lot. It's still not a open world game, but the areas where you can visit are big enough and full of different events. Also the order in which you do the quest is flexible, since most of the quests are linked together in interesting ways. -
I just picked something at random from my anime collection to go with my dinner and ended up with Sakamichi no Apollon. And oh damn it is good, it's been a while since I had such fun watching something. The characters are great, the drama is simple but enjoyable and the music is just amazing. I almost wanted to close my eyes and go with groove. I mean, just listen to this...

BakeMonogatari has such good music, which is sadly overshadowed by the OPs and EDs.

I can't help but laugh at the american stands about nudity and anything sexual, since Finland is pretty liberal with that stuff. Those Japanese kids are pretty much like all the kids here. Today I read from the newspaper about the television age rating and there were some interesting points like how nudity never raises age ratings. Sex does, but not that much. There was some reality show witch happened to have a a scene were people were having and sex and the picture was blurred and the rating was 7. I've also seen full blown nudity in detective shows rated 15, but I feel like the rating would be lower if there wasn't that much violence in that show.

I'm feeling the same way. From the ep. 1 I have been waiting it to turn super serious. I like it the way it is, but I feel like it's missing some of it's potential. Though they are hinting towards the inevitable tragedy, but if that's the case I don't think that the build up has been that good. I'm just hoping it will go along my expectations and turns into a heavyweight feels train.

I go orienteering every week, since my dad likes to make along and it has become kind of habit. That 5 km of running and walking in forest is better than nothing, but my condition is still pretty bad. And I have mandatory half to one year military training in about a year, so I should really exercise more. I really don't like exercising, so I'm not too thrilled about it. Otherwise I think I could live with my good metabolism and not require that much exercise.

I do the google for game stuff every time and try to find some consensus on internet, but I tend to listen to niche sources the most. The people who are most enthusiastic about the game can usually give the best comments, though you need to be careful of the blind fanboys. Also because most of the games I'm picking are localisations, I can always find the people who have played the game before hand. While I don't really have specific reviewers that resonate with me, I have found few sites that usually match with my opinions with their reviews. Hardcore Gaming 101 is place I use every time I'm looking into older games I might want to play. While their articles aren't really reviews per say, more like miss-mashes between reviews and analytic articles, they are pretty in depth and give much better overall view of the game than a normal review. For newer games I tend appreciate the reviews of DiehardGameFan, mostly because their reviews go deeper than normal and they actually put lot of effort into them. It also helps that their JRPG reviews are not like those of the other review sites. They have more to say than: "Fanservice, but otherwise okay" or "the combat is normal turn based business and requires grinding", unlike many "mainstream" review sites.

Most of the VN protagonist are so bland that you can't really hate them, or least I haven't yet to see entirely unlikable protagonist. My choice would probable be Emiya Shirou from Fate/stay night. I couldn't stand the way he pursued his ideals, but mostly how he is almost blind to the reality of the events happening around him. Still I appreciate him in the context of the story, so I kind of like him even though I don't, if that even makes any sense. I can like and appreciate characters even if they might represent stuff I don't personally approve, kinda like how Rance is great in it's own way.

I didn't find Benio that annoying during her route, it was more like I started to get tired of the justice jokes afterwards. I normally hate the "ally of justice" type of characters, but I found Benio kind of interesting. It also helps that Benio has the "normal girl" vibe that you don't see very often in VNs. My hate for Kagome isn't as strong anymore, but I still can't really stand her. Something about her attitude rubs me the really wrong way, probably the possessiveness and overall abusive behavior. But other than that I'm really liking the characters and the story.

I used too read shit ton when I was younger, like book in 2 days. But after I got into games I started to read less and less, nowadays I read books very rarely, only if I happen to find something really interesting. There's still a huge pile of books next to my bed that seemed interesting, but I have yet to start reading. Yesterday I went to library 4 hrs and read Witcher: Time of Contempt (actually Noituri: Halveksunnan aika since I'm reading the Finnish tranlation), just because I felt like reading some witcher. Witcher books are pretty much the only ones I'm really looking forward to and enjoy reading. The gritty world of witcher is something that hooked me up from the start, as I had never seen a story which handles the grey morality as well. The references to the European folklore and stories made by twisting them are also really interesting, since I had heard the original tales as bedtime stories. And the humor is great too, also in kind of dark and cynic way.
