  1. So far 7 of the top 10 most popular listed on vndb have appeared. I guess there is value in those ratings after all.
  2. I do believe I mined more salt than anyone I know for a long time there and then I found myself at an age where suddenly the salt would just slowly wash away. My salt seems to be at its lowest level ever and I place the least value on it that I can ever recall. Maybe that happens to everyone at some stage, I dunno, but I hope so for its rather liberating. Alas not everyone around me seems to have devalued their salt and salt reserves over time.
  3. Thanks for the responses, I've been playing VNs for just under 20 years so I'm not exactly looking for recommendations for myself I just wanted to see what people feel is their life changing VN.
  4. Is that a cryptocurrency?
  5. No that's not the point of the thread. While I may find something to read, I'm really looking for what people consider a masterpiece that makes you breathless beyond words and why.
  6. Clickbait for sure, but I'm actually asking for recommendations, not recommending one. You get to recommend precisely ONE VN and ONE only, translated or untranslated, and explain why - any genre, any style. If it's an untranslated one, and I haven't read it, I may even consider it for my next translation project. To clarify, I'm not just after a recommendation for myself (that's just an aside), I'd rather know what people consider their one must read VN and why; it should be a masterpiece that makes you breathless beyond words and I want to know why. Thanks
  7. Because I get to be the oldest person on the forum by staying here.
  8. You didn't specify if it needs to be translated...
  9. Yeah good luck with that. Man if the anime has too much food porn, I'd hate to try and read the manga.
  10. May be, may be... I have been watching shokugeki no souma every season and by now I'm starting to get tired of that too. The only time I find it interesting now is when it concentrates on the characters and their development. They need to get it on with Erina and Souma sooner rather than later because I'm over the food porn aspect.
  11. Strange, Restaurant.. didn't work for me at all. I just got bored of the same plot over and over and gave up about halfway.
  12. Added: Recovery of an MMO Junkie Star Blazers 2199 Just Because Our love has always been 10 centimeters apart Welcome to the Ballroom
  13. くちばしが長い means long beak but it's a Hokkaido expression about someone's timing that means something like "you always show up when nice food's on offer".
  14. Just one, my best friend, and no one else has a clue.
  15. Damn, are you kidding dull? There's more I'm looking forward to this season (thanks to sequels and continuations) than many before. Perhaps because I've watched so much anime that the sequels mean something to me. Nanatsu no taizai Cardcaptor Sakura Gintama Saiki K Mahoutsukai no Yome Chuunibyou movie Shinmai no Maou And that's before even looking at new series.
  16. I've gotten used to the Akamatsu curse. I used to scanlate the original Negima and loved it to death until they destroyed the manga ending. Additionally I subbed all the Negima OVAs and none of the original story ever got a good anime. So basically after Love Hina - which was the only manga to finish successfully but suffered with the unfinished anime, none of Akamatsu's works have ever gotten the completion and attention they deserve. To be honest I expected much the same with UQ and never even bothered reading the manga. I still enjoyed the anime in its own way but can see absolutely crystal clearly how it couldn't possibly be what was in the manga, so the curse continues.
  17. Yep great film. Now go and see A Silent Voice aka Koe no Katachi for another great, but very different anime film.
  18. I recall one which wrote that but the voiceovers said something completely different
  19. 13 with massive restrictions, but it's actually 18 for unrestricted consent, but it explains how portrayal can make it look like a younger person comes onto an older one to circumvent the restrictions. However how VNs bother to interpret or portray it is wildly variable depending on their target audience (whether they want it to look legal, barely legal, or illegal) and there are no restrictions on what can be depicted in fiction, drawn or animated (so long as mosaics are applied to genitalia.)
  20. Thanks. I encoded for a fansub group for a decade so this is not news... the FMAB blurays are however flawless.
  21. I have the blurays. No compromise there.
  22. Actually you're more likely to notice it on headphones... Mp3s tend to softly declip but they dont add clipping that wasn't there unless some moron increases the volume when encoding to mp3. I've never found a higher quality source that didn't have clipping so if you have something, I'm all ears
  23. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipping_(audio) It's a hangover of the "loudness wars" that CDs were made closer and closer to their loudness limits because psychoacoustically things sound better if louder and everyone has their volume control set to the same level. Unfortunately those loudness wars pushed things too far and there is no ability in digital to cope with "too loud" and it ends up creating awful sounding square waves (which are also potentially damaging to speakers). I listen to fairly high quality audio and also like to listen loud so these anomalies sound terrible. If you load up a track into a waveform editor you can see it as the waveform always reaching the top and bottom extents of the graph.
  24. Not a bad song amongst them for sure.
