Speaking of what Saya no Uta could be - seeing how far the third Berserk movie went (sex), a movie adaptation of Saya no Uta would theoretically be possible, wouldn't it? If they didn't have to care about rating and short runtime, that'd make for an ideal adaptation... but we all know this isn't going to happen.

Really depends, this kanji is all over Muramasa, for example. I'm assuming it's just a more formal/archaic version of -self, which is why you'll most likely come across it in other VNs from the chuuni genre as well.

To put it simply, 自 is most commonly used when referring to yourself, and 己 when talking about someone else. As for 自, you won't really find that on its own. Most commonly, you'll see 自分, which means 'myself', or it also can be used as a very formal substitute for first-person pronouns like 私. Now that I think about it, you can use both 自 and 己 for either. It's probably just best to remember that while 己 can stand on its own, 自 can't - and that you'll see 自 used much more often than 己, unless you're reading some older text or something chuuni.

Akatsuki no Goei would make for a great anime. Actually, they wouldn't even need to focus on the story as much and just make it into a romcom, if the humour is anywhere near the VN's level. ...the more I think about this, the more I feel like it needs to happen.

There was some 360 exclusive VN weirdness last gen too (Ever17 comes to mind), even though you'd think it makes no sense given how "popular" Xbox is in Japan. Well, if they were setting release platforms based on popularity, everything would probably end up on smartphones by now.

I've once tried to watch the live-action adaptation of Higurashi. Yeah, tried... took a whole week to recover from that trauma. I can watch comically bad things like Tokyo Gore Police because that's on such a scale that it reaches those camp levels (still pretty hard to appreciate while you're sober, though ), but adaptations...? Actually, now that I think about it, I've very much enjoyed Hentai Kamen, but that was mostly for the same reason as the aforementioned movie. Though there were some genuinely hilarious moments in there. Well, if you have the mood for it, it can be enjoyed, although mostly for the very specific comedic value.

DanganRonpa 2 is coming out later this year, so it might be the right time to catch up. Same goes for Corpse Party (BloodDrive coming out really soon), though only in Japanese (and on the Vita). Since you played Sengoku Rance, why not try more games from the Rance series?

This is hardly a rule. In fact, a lot of the better VNs are quite removed from this setting. As for romance, it's entirely possible to have VNs like that as well. While the traditional route = heroine format is very common, there are VNs with no routes at all (Higurashi, Umineko...) or VNs where routes don't necessarily equal romance with a heroine (999, VLR, Saya no Uta...). And that's just what came to mind first.
