  1. All I bought so far was I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream, which was sitting in my wishlist for quite some time now.
  2. Oops, I accidentally wrote the exact opposite of what I actually meant. What I really meant was: Skip (read text only)- Ctrl Skip (unread text as well) - Ctrl+LShift So if you press ctrl alone and you are on a part you haven't read yet, nothing actually happens. It also shouldn't be a toggle, rather than just skip as long as you are pressing - and that time only. It definitely can get in the way now that you mention it, but it's just something I got used to because most VNs use that key for skipping...
  3. Finished Kara no Shoujo 2 some days ago. I was kind of let down by the true ending and overall less ambitious structure (no complex bad ending routes) compared to the first one - that coupled with there being almost no twists that would really surprise me made me enjoy it a little bit less than the first entry in the series.... is what I feel tempted to say, but the superior character interaction and presentation of the sequel put it at the same level as its predecessor in the end. I would give it an 8/10, although that doesn't really mean anything anyway, haha. I expected to be depressed more, hopefully the last entry in the trilogy can deliver on that when it comes out. Speaking of unfinished trilogies, upon some masochistic impulse I've decided to start reading Mahoyo. I'm really enjoying it so far.... which makes this entire experience that much worse, because we all know Nasu is never going to finish that thing anyway. If anything, Mahoyo truly sets the new standard for what a chuuni VN's presentation should be like - a stndard that probably no one will be able to follow, unfortunately. Also, whoever decided it was a good idea not to include VAs despite how ridiculously high-budget everything else is deserves a whack over the head - and if it was Nasu he deserves at least two.
  4. "Next" / "Go" - LMB Hide UI / text window - Space History - Mouse-wheel up Settings dialog - RMB Toggle fullscreen / windowed - F Skip - Ctrl Skip already seen text - Ctrl+LShift Here are the ones that I regularly use/like to see. I guess I'm not much of a keyboard person, so the more functions the RMB settings dialog has (or alternatively buttons around the textbox), the better. Since I primarily use the mouse, that is the most comfortable way for me. On that note, I don't really like keybinds on the right side of the keyboard for that very reason; not a big fan of the Enter key having uses, for example.
  5. I was appalled by the quality and length of this post, until I saw this part. I'm proud of you, Zaka; グッジョブ! On a more serious note, if actual exercises are what you're after, getting a textbook might be the fastest way to get these. Aside from the already mentioned Genki, Minna no Nihongo is also a popular choice amongst the Japanese-learning circles; but both of these have their faults. If practice is what you're after, however, there are plenty of sites to help you out. If writing exercise is what you're after, you can get your stuff checked by natives, and alternatively do the same for others with the languages you're familiar with yourself. Want to practice your reading comprehension with something actually more applicable than porn games (oh no! (/ω\))? NHK has you covered, providing daily news with simple wordings and in-built japanese definitions of the more complicated words. Well anyone from FSJPG probably already knows these since I tend to throw them around at times, but others might perhaps find this useful. To add on the topic of studying after getting through the basic hurdles - that is to say, getting comfortable enough with the language: don't be afraid of using a Japanese-created dictionary. Jisho and Tangorin aren't the only useful resources out there (?! ). Give the, perhaps at first glance intimidating, Weblio a shot! The interface is in Japanese, but this particular section is a proper ja-en dictionary. From my experience, it comes in handy when looking up more specific expressions, and in general it just gives a much more... natural English counterparts to the Japanese inquiries compared to Jisho/Tangorin. It is also full of example sentences that it searches through too, so sometimes you might find things that don't even have a proper entry there either. The site also has a ja-ja section as well if you want to cut off the second language completely - and on that note, having at least one of the idiom dictionaries bookmarked is never a bad thing, either. And remember, the ultimate secret to learning Japanese - no matter what you are looking for, there will always be someone asking about the same thing on japanese Yahoo answers for you.
  6. Well hey, my mistake for thinking people here cared about VNs, I guess. If there was ever any chance of these releases ever making it to the west - or even MG just acquiring the rights to the Alchemist/Kaga assets - there sure as hell is none now.
  7. So this isn't probably even news, but I've just noticed it now and don't remember seeing it discussed before. It was brought to my attention minutes earlier that Higurashi Sui, the collection of the 19 arcs spread across the PC, PS2 and DS releases of previous Higurashi titles, is going for a strangely high price on play-asia - that is, the VN now costs 100$. That in itself wouldn't be so strange, play-asia was never famous for being the cheapest import shop out there. I didn't remember the exact price at launch - I think it was something between 7 to 8 thousand yen, the regular game price - so I went to check the Playstation Store, which is where I've gotten my copy... but this is where things started to get weird. Looking for Higurashi gave no results. Assuming the search system was just being trash, I clicked my way to the game through my download list - only to be greeted by an empty page. Even the entries in the download list are missing proper icons. I even tried looking for the Umineko releases, which used to be listed on PSN as well - but just like Higurashi, they are also gone, without a trace. I have no idea what is going on. I can only assume that this has something to do with both Kaga Create and Alchemist going under some time back - but would that really make them flat out remove all their products? One thing is for certain - if you still want to get the console releases of the 'When They Cry' series,, you might want to do so as soon as possible.... before the price grows even more. TL;DR - Higurashi and Umineko deleted from PSN, meaning it is no longer possible to get a hold of a digital copy. Physical copies limited and going up in price.
  8. I know I'm late, but according to Japanese wiki, the only different things in the PSP version is a new OP and some different TIPS.
  9. Sounds like I was in that one too.
  10. I wish my dreams were this interesting
  11. There's still not much known about Trianthology other than it being three different artists, three different writers and... three different VNs, maybe? Whether it will be distributed as a a single entity or not, it's supposed to be three different stories - three different worlds - that will probably interact with each other in some way or the other. It sounds pretty ambitious, so we'll just have to wait and see what it actually turns out to be.
  12. Ouch, this has to suck. I never really got into 999 myself, be it the emulator or the fact that I played the games out of order like an idiot... or neither of these ,who knows. Well, hopefully ZE3 turns out good and makes up for this. As for me I'm just slowly making my way through Kara no Shoujo 2. Still in the village segment, and it honestly just feels like reading an entirely different VN - though I am enjoying it quite a bit. Also the writer's kanji fetish is back with a vengeance, it almost feels like he set the story further in the past just so he could get even more ridiculous with his vocabulary.
  13. Witness the magic. ...and they have an entire series based on that premise.
  14. Oh, that's interesting. Didn't know about that one! Not sure what much more they can do with the premise, but hopefully it'll be good.
  15. Finished reading Janen-hen. I can't help it but give it a full on 10. While that might seem ridiculous for something that barely even classifies as a fandisc, I've thoroughly enjoyed what Janen-hen has to offer. There is an entire arc about the characters trying to make a movie adaptation of the original VN and falling into despair upon encountering the horrors we all have to face with horrible anime adaptations... what, you were a heroine in the original? Too bad m8, movie has only 2 hours, all routes except the true one are getting cut. Oh, nevermind, 80% if the true route is getting cut as well. This all is very meta and hilarious, but it is nothing compared to the manga-style parodies. Do you know Hiimdaisy's Persona 4 parody comic? Great, do you know the dubbed version of that? Imagine that, replace Persona 4 with Muramasa, and make it official. There is nothing more hilarious than stuff like "FullAnalDaemon Kikumasa" with each respective character actually dubbed by their proper seiyuus. There is also an entirely animated Gurren Lagann-esque episode; the comedy is top notch, and I wish I would see stuff like this from fandiscs more often. There is serious stuff too - I won't talk about that part much to avoid spoilers, but I will just say that Re: Blade Arts, written by the Demonbane author, is a beautiful loveletter and a sendoff to the original Muramasa release. Now I'm just sad that I have no more Muramasa to look forward to.
  16. Just finished Steins;Gate 0. Overall I give it a 9/10, whatever these numbers might mean. I liked it the same, if not a bit more than the original Steins;Gate - it explored parts of the story that didn't really need fleshing out in a way that was surprisingly entertaining and in the end earned its place in the series as a true sequel in my eyes. Having finished the VN I've decided to check a walkthrough out of curiosity. I was pretty shocked by getting the true route on my second way through - but as it turns out, the first route I cleared, a route that felt so good that I figured it had to be the only thing you can get at first because of how well it set everything up... that route not only hides behind several triggers, but it is also the only ending required to unlock the true route. You see, you can get any route but the true route right from the start... but somehow, I ended up clearing the only relatively hidden condition to unlock the true route on my first way through, and ended up getting the true ending on my second way through, completely unwittingly and unintentionally. Given how ambiguous (but not nearly as difficult as the S;G ones) the choices are, I really don't know if I have good luck, or just the worst luck ever.
  17. Took me until now to notice the mention, but I have to admit it got me pretty spooked. You have a pretty dark sense of humour if you find slavs funny, just don't take it too far or you will end up like me Congrats on the 1000th post! I'm here for over two years and I barely even have that much myself - teach me the shitposting ways, senpai~ (/ω\)
  18. Nasu's h-scenes are... well, infamously bad, but I prefer HF with them, most likely for the same reasons Suzu mentioned above. I didn't read Realta Nua so I can't really judge, but from what I read up on the HF rewrites, it just doesn't seem to cut it for me.
  19. So, uh... I accidentally got the true ending in Steins;Gate 0 as soon as it got unlocked.... It was really good, but man I really wanted to read the other routes first. :C Hopefully the rest isn't too much worse - so far I'd say SG0 is even better than the original.
  20. Thanks for the reply! Based on that and the fact that the PS2 version seems to lack a reasonably useful skip function, I've decided to leave the routes for a bit later. In the meanwhile, I've finally picked up Steins;Gate 0. I usually read VNs pretty slow, but if the fact that I spent around 23 hours on S;G0 in just two days alone is any proof, then the story just grabs you right from the start and never lets go. I've finished my first route, and so far I can happily say that this is a sequel worth reading. Having most of the character and world building out of the way, the sequel feels like the original Steins;Gate without the first half. Those who've read it should know what that means. Hopefully the rest of the routes is at least this good as well!
  21. Just finished Al's route in the PS2 port of Demonbane. That was quite a ride, quite fun to just turn your brain off and enjoy the shounen chuuni filled with Lovecraft. For those who have played it, just how different are the other two routes? I heard they're quite similar, at least at first... I am considering taking a break from the VN since the ending felt conclusive enough, just wondering how much priority I should put on the remaining routes. Not sure if I want to start a different long VN like this, but that S;G0 copy was sitting here for like two months now...
  22. I didn't post here in forever, so here we go! First of all, 300 hours later, I've finally completed what would probably be considered the grand ending of Higurashi Sui. I still have 3 more arcs to go, ranging from fanservice to fandisc non-canon, but overall I think my favourite arcs were the ones coming from Kizuna, the DS releases. It's pretty funny, but I honestly found some of the new characters even more likeable and interesting than the original cast. More on this when I actually finish the VN! Taking a break from Sui, I've started reading the PS2 version of the first Demonbane. Only about four chapters in so far, so I can't say much else than "Holy shit what is all this budget?!" I'm also reading the Steins;Gate fandisc on the Vita in preparation for S;G0 which is waiting on my PS4. Not sure how much of this I'll actually read as I'm not the biggest fan of fandiscs, but I'd like to get at least one route down. I also have Phenogram on the Vita too - PS+ has already provided me with over half of the X;Y VN library, they're on a roll! On the topic of PS+, there's one last thing I've played. Like some games before it, Punchline has a 2 hour free trial up before it actually comes out, so I decided to check that out. Punchline seems be the original story expanded upon in VN form, with parts of the anime still kept in. It also has this "puzzle" mechanic where you have to play pranks on the people living in the house in order to get the story moving again, but really all this involves is switching between the different rooms and clicking on one of a few objects and hoping that it is correct. Not really sure how the story will work in a much longer format (I thought it was good because of the ridiculous pacing in the relatively short anime format), or how much you can even get out of this if you've already seen the anime... I mean seeing more Yukatan is great and all, but was this really necessary for a story that was all about ridiculous plottwists coming one after another as fast as possible? If you haven't seen the anime, I suppose this might be worth getting, but as for me the trial just convinced me to wait rather than making me buy it.
  23. Not to rain on your parade or anything, but as far as I know AkaGoei is already getting translated. There was a thread about it on Fuwa, too - you can probably get in contact with the people working on it and perhaps help out.
  24. 2D-chan's route will be a breeze with this UNBELIEVABLE tip! Guide books hate it!
  25. SakuUta is on the first place, the rest of the ranking obviously doesn't even matter.
