But seriously though, I really do think I'd make a good teacher. Your story just makes me more certain of this, how hard could it be For those that don't know, I may or may not have ranted about MangaGamer's writing ability. Apparently I sounded like a "crazy person" .....

My uptight lecturing on Mangagamer's LACK of writing style is going to lead to much mockery in the near future. I hope you appreciate the sacrifice I made for the cause!

Hey Tay, have you looked into mindfulness meditation (vipassana), in addition to transcendental meditation? Vipassana also has no religious overtones (you CAN but you don't HAVE to,) the difference is it seeks to develop awareness in all things, especially your own thoughts. It's much harder to learn (the idea is you can analyze your suffering, trace your feelings down to its core/roots, then abandon it) but it's the type of meditation Buddhists use. It's also the type used by the man dubbed "The happiest guy alive" (Matthieu Ricard, who went from Molecular Biologist to ... Monk ) So it might have some benefit. If it sounds interesting, here's an introductory book on it: http://www.amazon.com/Happiness-Guide-Developing-Lifes-Important/dp/0316167258 [1] - http://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/mindfulness-meditation-may-ease-anxiety-mental-stress-201401086967

There are SO MANY redundancies in these sentences, but I kept telling myself it's okay. Then a bunch appeared in the same line: OH COME ON! I hope this is getting another edit before actual release (please? Pretty please?) Suggestions - "The fact I wasn't joking showed how perilous my situation was." Or "That I wasn't joking showed the gravity of my situation." But my preference is probably something like "I wasn't joking, that's how perilous my situation was." something like that. The point is, see how clean and bloat free my suggestions are? See the colossal bloat in the sentence above? The bloat obstructs the meaning, the imagery, and the impact of the words... it also makes my eyebrow twitch.

It gets better! It's only the beginning that's poorly edited, thank goodness. I can totally read it afterward, just the beginning bit was horrid. Just so you know I'm not being cynical to "look cool" here's a few notes I made on the beginning... 11 lines: 5th line – “The sun had set, but it was still so cold that I had a hard time believing that school was starting soon.” The word “but” is misused, it’s there to indicate a contradictory statement however there is none. Also lots and lots of redundancies, the sentence is a struggle to get through. Also school could mean “school term” or “a new school week” or “a new school day.” First get rid of the comma and replace with a semi-colon or a period. Then get rid of the “but”. Then get rid of all the redundancies and fiddle to stop making it sound kiddy. "The sun had set. With the weather still so cold it was hard to believe the school term was about to start." Yes there’s an extra sentence in there, but that’s better than sticking a term which doesn’t apply in there. 7th line – "As was my lack of any place to go" Ugh. It's a small thing, but it gives off the sense that something's wrong. Replace “Any” with “a” “As was my lack of a place to go.” Personally I prefer something like “As was having no place to go." or "Having nowhere to go didn't help either." That last suggestion changes the tone though. 11th line – "and the cold that I felt ran deep" Get rid of the “that” - "and the cold I felt ran deep." And that's why I reacted with disgust. It gets better though, but someone needs to edit the opening. A couple of borderline sentences I won't comment on either. They're acceptable though, I just don't like them. Comma abuse seems common though, redundant words also seem common. "Taking care of myself enough not to get sick" appears a little later on, but is easily fixed... EDIT: It's a little bit nitpicky but that has to do with the price. See, if I'm paying ... 45 dollars is it? I tend to judge the game a little harsher than if I was paying 20 dollars. But like I said, if I do the review it won't be going in there. But yeah, as someone who usually studies how authors write, whenever I'm confronted with line after line of awkward sounding text, all I want to do is analyse why it doesn't sound right. I don't really feel like reading on. Happily it improves!

I'm reading through the trial version because I wanted to write a quick review. You can tell the editor didn't have much time to edit this, the longer sentences (where the writing needs to be quite tight) are full of bad writing. And I'm like... 6 lines in I'll probably leave that out of the review, because people have a high tolerance for bad writing. Still not well edited. I can't get sucked in, the writing keeps jolting me out.

Downloaded the demo, and passed the demo link to a few friends also. Haven't had time to play it yet Hmmm, half-way to its goal with 16 days to go. I hope it makes it

As someone who believes the visual novel industry (and interactive stories in general) has almost unlimited potential (restrained by tech and real-life limitations,) and also has great expectations of the OELVN industry, I'll be keeping an eye on you guys. Will definitely be purchasing your games when they're released. Best of luck!

Just PM a mod to move it (Marie, Nosebleed, and Down are all online.) They all love extra work and will be pleased to fulfill any requests you might have

1) It wasn’t mockery and it wasn’t sarcasm, those are legitimately the options (if I correctly understood a one-liner Tay threw at me one day. If not he can correct it himself.) People seem to be under the impression that keeping the torrents was a viable option, from what I understand it wasn’t. 2 ) People don’t like me speaking for Tay (*looks at Zaka*) which is why I didn’t answer for a very long time. But seeing as the thread was continuing and people were starting to speculate, and seeing as I was involved in a good number of these sorts of discussions with Tay, I thought to add a statement and let Tay clarify later. -

Illegal copies of games are extremely easy to obtain on the web. Removing torrents from Fuwa will not impede people downloading visual novels. Furthermore Steam, and the introduction of adventure games which people tend to confuse with VNs (like Phoenix Wright, 999, and The Walking Dead) are doing far more to introduce people to VNs then Fuwanovel did by hosting a torrent facility for those who already heard of the medium. Which is why you’re seeing all those people sign up to Fuwa who’s first VN was Phoenix Wright or Zero Escape. When you have articles like “Do you like The Walking Dead, well here are some VNs you should play” then VNs are starting to take off. With this the gameplan starts to change, VNs are starting to hit the mainstream media, and we no longer need to shout about VNs to the world. I should point out Fuwa had minimal influence in providing this popularity boost to VNs, it would have happened with or without Fuwa. So, does this change in status provide an opportunity to change gameplans? You are forgetting that to make something popular there needs to be a product to begin with, which means encouraging support for developers both in Japan and in the West. And that it also involves providing information, support, and programs to SUSTAIN interest in a medium once someone has been introduced. Fuwa has never been about getting newcomers to the medium, people came to Fuwa AFTER they heard about VNs (they played Katawa Shoujo and went looking, or Phoenix Wright and went looking,) Fuwa focused on getting people to stay and providing a home. They did this through the release of torrents and a friendly community. That being said, finding games on the web is pretty simple so Fuwa’s service isn’t a necessity. And with cheap games on Steam, cheap mobile games, and easily available DS games, there are more opportunities than ever before for people to try visual novels for themselves. So Fuwanovel has decided there is more future heading down another road, providing support for development, providing an information hub for the huge number of players out there. This is something which no other site offers and something which opens up more possibilities than merely being a torrent site does. Getting people to stay once exposed by providing a friendly community and a comprehensive all-round service not found anywhere else will be Fuwa’s contribution to promoting the medium. But that won’t mean Fuwanovel will halt attempts at spreading. Spreading will continue with outreach programs. Tay plans on hitting the anime communities and suggesting to fans of anime to try their VN tie-ins. For example, targeting fans of Fate/Stay Night to try the VN. He’ll also possibly be reaching out to other mediums which are similar (like interactive fiction, fans of IF SHOULD try VNs.) Lastly three surveys were made, one for the forums, one for FB, one for twitter – all gave similar results. The most angst about this news is coming from OUTSIDE the community imo, but nobody has the data for that atm. If the greatest hit for the site are just people leeching off the front page, then Fuwanovel will survive. Also pre-patched has a bad reputation, and even amongst Fuwa visitors the amount who preferred pre-patched wasn’t convincing. And it’s very small anywhere else. At the end of the day, I disagree with your assessment. Fuwa hasn’t helped much INTRODUCE the medium to people, they helped keep people interested after exposed something which Fuwa plans to continue. Tay’s outreach program will help bring people in. And I don’t believe removing torrents will result in a monumental loss. But here are the options, Fuwa can either go legit or it can close. Those are the 2 options available. Tay is extremely busy atm, which is why he hasn’t responded. -
What Fuwanovel Means to Me (Yay, 2000 posts!)

But if I did that I wouldn’t annoy NEARLY as many people. So I'll call your suggestion the “less fun” option and promise to never use it Thank you for the new nickname, I'll treasure it always... Heh, fear our country.
