  1. I am a rolled up newspaper, crusher of flies, smacker of puppy’s noses.
  2. Yeah, Visual Novels are a writer's and artists domain - it really is just a natural evolution of the storytelling medium. But not THAT many writers and artists know how to program, and Ren'Py CAN be daunting for people unfamiliar with coding. I agree with Tay, it's a nice way to bring people in and then slowly guide them towards Ren'Py.
  3. http://www.siliconera.com/2015/03/20/nyu-media-announces-easiest-and-fastest-visual-novel-engine-tyranobuilder/ It will probably not support Sim or gameplay segments, and it will be much more limited than Ren'Py, but otherwise it doesn't look bad? I dunno.
  4. Sounds good! A bit ambitious, but otherwise awesome! There's no reason an for not including an open world in a visual novel. That being said, it's been an issue for a while now in the RPG landscape. Can you provide a compelling story in an open world game. Until Dragon Age Inquisition, I would have said it would have been almost impossible, and here's why. Open world games emphasise freedom of character - you can approach objectives in multiple ways, how or when to do stuff. Fitting a story into a philosophical design which emphasises freedom in how you go about things is really difficult. Look at Dragon Age Inquisition (even though it's an RPG.)
  5. There seems to be an economic strategy in Japan to drive down the value of the Yen.
  6. Greaaaat. If this is true I'm never going to hear the end of it from my Zero Escape obsessed friend.
  7. Yeah, LOTR isn't that long - http://fantasy-faction.com/forum/fantasy-book-discussion/word-counts-of-epic-fantasy-novels/ In comparison, Clannad has... what, a million english words?
  8. The ability to make choices and decisions which affect your environment or the story itself? You don’t get that in a book. And if you do, it’s done extremely superficially. You could even have the character's facebook page displayed in real time during the game, once again not possible in a book. The future of stories is interactive :3 Musical accompaniment. Sound accompaniment. Animation. There's tons of reasons.
  9. Option 1 – Insert long explanation about why the limitations of a book format make it an undesirable choice for any form of interactive story. Option 2 –
  10. Ahahaha, there was a moment when the forum front page said "Tay - Project Managers, you can use this" then right underneath was an ad for Tafe courses XD EDIT:
  11. Ah, welcome to the forum Iro. Hope you enjoy yourself here.
  12. The internal monologue is the actual narrative in a first person novel, which is where a writer's job starts. Anybody can whack out a dialogue scene, it's the prose and the narrative which is the hardest and most important. They create imagery for the reader, build a scenario for the scene to take place in. Good writing is conveying that image, or information effectively to the reader, butchering a sentence and obscuring the information is usually considered bad writing. There are many kinds of good writing, but bad writing tends to be the same... I think. People's speech IS rarely efficient, but dialogue is not meant to reflect real life (unless you're doing a piece of literature and this is one of your themes.) This is why a writer is usually told they should mimic real dialogue in their novels, not actually include real dialogue in their novels. Same goes for monologues and narration. Ahaha, there's plenty of times in the novel where the text box isn't near filled. It's a poor excuse really. And yes, I'd take an empty text box over a butchering of a sentence any day. Although maybe the devs can keep the whole "empty text box" thing in mind the next time they fill it with "..." And yes Bats is right. I AM a grumpy old man EDIT: Replace perilous with dangerous then
  13. What's the condition of the demo? I can't comment on the translation but it's probably fairly accurate translation wise, however it reads like it has had very little editing. In fact it reads like it was written by a dude who has no clue about basic english sentence structure. It's really disappointing in a game which costs near 50 bucks. BUT Moenovel's was far worse. Can't comment on Edelweiss, not my kind of game.
  14. I'd watch this if I had better bandwidth. I remember having a lot of fun learning the difference a few years ago, it makes a difference when you're trying to sound formal to know precisely when to use it. Obviously if you try to sound formal and misuse "whom" then people are just going to look at you all amused and mocking like. They may even snort at you, which is a little disgusting. Your subjunctive lecture would be fascinating, it's a pretty confusing topic.
  15. You play it for the sex scenes, basically. People *say* the plot picks up in number 3, but you have to plough through the first 2 games to get there and I doubt it picks up by much. Furthermore the RPG mechanics are pretty poor.
  16. Not really. I briefly touch on the reasons in my blog article - http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/blog/65-rookes-ramblings/
  17. I'm wondering how many people will use this method to revert Tay's avatar back to it's vintage form
  18. A while back: http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/8694-important-domain-and-host-transfer/ http://forums.fuwanovel.net/index.php?/topic/8694-important-domain-and-host-transfer/?p=244315
  19. People seem to be saying it's short, and it's buggy. Also they don't like the plot. Knowing VNDB they probably voted it down because of the art and length. They couldn't possibly have marked it down for the story, because VNDB rated Monster Girl Quest almost off the charts and all that's got going for it is... ah, I see.
  20. If you like Match-3, you could get addicted fast
  21. You got Sakura Angels out of boredom? 0.0 My condolences. Feel free to tackle it if you want. Have fun with it
  22. Dear JAST Market RPGs to RPG gamers, not visual novel readers. I know, I know, marketing games to those who'd actually be interested in BUYING those games is a totally outlandish, devil-worshipping, iconoclast concept. But give it a whirl, who knows. Yours in amusement, Rooke. PS: No need to thank me JAST, just chuck handfuls of money in my general direction
