How would you introduce animes to your parents ?
Dergonu replied to Pinkaw's topic in Anime/Manga Talk
Hmm... among the shows I have on my shelf at the moment, I would probably show them Another. Pretty cool mystery/ horror show. Tokyo Ghoul would be my second choice. (Well, assuming I hadn't already introduced them to it, which I have.) Anime is pretty different from the TV shows adults in the west usually watch, so it is only natural that they will look at the first few episodes of basically any anime with some scepticism. If you actually want to introduce your parents to anime, I'd say the best thing to do is to open with why you like anime, and then show an example of something you like. You might not be able to get your parents hooked on anime, but you can at least make them understand a bit more what it is you like about it. That's what I did. Me and my Dad were watching Sword Art Online together a few weeks back. He didn't understand everything, but he seemed to enjoy it. -
I personally like chiitrans the most. Some people prefer other programs. It's just preference, really. If you want a Japanese grammar guide, go with Tae Kim's. It is the most complete grammar guide out there, and it's free. If you already know that much, getting into some easy VNs with text hookers should be a walk in the park tbh. Just find a few you think look nice and give them a try. Reading natively written Japanese text is one of the best ways to improve, so I highly recommend getting into it. Best of luck.

I smirked a bit at those screens, actually. Seems like it could be an amusing read to be honest.

Ah, awesome, thanks! They were under local, virtualstore. I only checked the main roaming folder. That was a sneaky little folder, lol.

Just to clearify, this is the original Japanese game, not the steam version, so I do not need the save location for the steam game. (Unless, of course, they are in the same place. ) I'm having trouble finding the save files for this game. I want to move the files from my laptop to my other computer so I can keep all my save points, but yeah... I just cannot find the files anywhere. I did some digging, and apperantly there is supposed to be a folder called "savedata" in the 忠臣蔵46+1 folder, but I can't see that folder in there. I also tried looking for hidden files in it, but nothing appeared. I have checked "my games" and my "roaming" folder too, but couldn't find them there either. So, yeah, I'm at a loss. Does anyone know where these files are/ why I cannot see them? (And if there is a way to get them...) I have well over a hundred saves, and losing all of that would suck. If anyone can help, that would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much this. Fullscreen gives much better immersion, making reading a lot easier and more enjoyable. The resolution doesn't really matter that much to me, though HD games are obviously prettier to look at in fullscreen. The only times I'll go windowed is if the game is rather complicated, and I feel like I need dictionary lookups a bit more frequently. (Only for untranslated games.)

What are you reading? Untranslated edition
Dergonu replied to Funnerific's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Finished chapter 4 of ChuSinGura, about to start the last chapter now. Will probably make a longer post on the game once I finish the last chapter, so for now let's just say... I came into ch.4 expecting Ichigaku, and was not dissapointed. (This CG is by far my favorite from the entire game so far.) Meanwhile, I'm also playing that new Vanadis game. It is pretty cute. Picked the harpy for my first playthrough, though I have only raised her for like, 10 days or something so far. She is adorable. A little chick that is scared of everything. The best part is that you get a choice during one of these scenes, "try scaring her more." Amazing parenting/ 10. -

kickstarter Neko Club - [DRAMA/SUSPENSE/COMEDY] KickStarter
Dergonu replied to Achaius2's topic in Original Projects
The art is a million times better than most OELVNs I have seen, and the fact that you guys have voice actors is really nice. Looks very promising at first glance at least. The only thing that bothers me a little bit is the use of the word "nekos" instead of just "cat girls." It is a little bit weird, seeing as this is an English VN, not a Japanese one. -

Dergonu replied to Funnerific's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Finished chapter 2 and 3 of ChuSingura, on chapter 4 atm. This chapter is a tad bit more difficult compared to the previous ones, as there is a lot more political talk and stuff like that. 江戸時代 politics isn't the easiest to understand, but my Japanese history class is helping out a bunch with a lot of the terms etc so it's not that bad, just a bit boring at times. Though, Ichigaku having an important role in this chapter makes it worth it, so. Not to mention I'm also going to start up the new Vanadis game, Mamono Musume no Sodatekata ~Lamia & Harpy~, as it doesn't seem too long and I love me some monster girls. Will hopefully be a nice game to use as a break from all the freaking 江戸時代 talk. -

I'd really like to see more reptile and harpy characters. -
A romance slice of life with REALLY likeable cast and "HD" art?
Dergonu replied to Nuka's topic in Recommendations
Koiken Otome fits the criteria well in my opinion. The art is very nice, the cast is pretty great and it's lighthearted. -
Would be amazing to see a drawing of Ichigaku having her head patted while she blushes. (A few of her sprites. The backgrounds obviously don't matter.)

キツネと私 vol.2 - Kitsune and me Vol.2 - Yuri light novel -
Dergonu replied to Dergonu's topic in Creative Corner
It has been a while since I wrote the last chapter on vol.2. I am not dead, and this book has been in the back of my mind the whole time. The reason I haven't written anything for so long is because university happened, and I just didn't have the time I used to. Even though I was busy though, I should have tried to keep writing a little bit here and there to keep the chapters coming. I'm sorry for the long gap in updates. I'm planning on starting this up again, (have chapter 3 about 50% completed.) If anyone is interested, I'll make another update once the next chapter is done. If you want to be notified when a new chapter comes out, go ahead and follow the thread and you'll get a notification when I post the next chapter. -
キツネと私 - Kitsune and me -Yuri Light novel! - (FINISHED)
Dergonu replied to Dergonu's topic in Creative Corner
It does not have any sex scenes in the first chapter, but it has nudity. I plan on writing in a sex scene in the second chapter though. I wasn't quite sure how to go about it in the first one, but have it planned out for the second one. -
キツネと私 - Kitsune and me -Yuri Light novel! - (FINISHED)
Dergonu replied to Dergonu's topic in Creative Corner
I do have 2 chapters finished so far, (can find them here if you haven't checked them out yet,) but because of university suddenly happening, I have been very busy recently. I really want to get back into writing, and will try my best to get a new chapter out as soon as I can. I intend on finishing this for sure. Thanks for the interest in the books, that means a lot to me. Follow the thread for the second book to find out right as a chapter gets released, as I'll post a comment there once I finish the next chapter. Actually going to post an update there now, as I really should have done a while ago. -
http://seiya-saiga.com/game/minatocarnival/tsujidou.html Here you go. You can use the VNDB page to see the character's names in kanji to know which route is which on the page.

If you want to read Japanese then you have to study Japanese to some extent. Like you mentioned, using a machine translator is no fun, so yeah... studying is basically the only way. However, you don't need to learn the language to a fluent level in order to simply read a visual novel. Reading is simply for your own entertainment, and not for someone else's benifit, so that means you have the ability to start reading at any proficency level. (You are not translating this for anyone; you are simply reading a piece of literature because you want to. This means you decide when you start reading, as it won't have a negative effect on anyone, except perhaps yourself.) Of course it is not easy reading a book in a language you hardly know, so like you said there will be tons of times you simply don't know for sure what you read. But, using Japanese VNs and a program like Chiitrans you can slowly but surely start to learn from reading. (Check out this thread for a guide on how to set up Chiitrans.) If you want to read Japanese VNs, you should first master the kana, then move over to studying grammar like a lunatic. Kanji knowledge is not that important if all you will use the language for is reading at a basic level. Through the use of dictionary lookups and furigana combined with a big vocabulary, you can kind of skip the kanji most of the time. (In your case, Chinese knowledge will also help, as certain kanji retain their reading/meanings from Chinese.) Basically, start studying and read as you do. That way you will slowly but surely start learning, and reading will become easier. If you are currently at the point where simply reading a word like あなた is taking a long time, you have a while to go. But, that still doesn't mean you can't get there.
