  1. Wahoo -- more art! I hope you'll post updates as it gets closer and closer to being done : )
  2. Welcome to the forums! I love the deep questions you brought up -- what an awesome way to jump into the community. I've been thinking about them since yesterday, and while I still haven't boiled down my answers, I didn't want to wait TOO long before posting a welcome message I've PM'd a certain, thoughtful demon-lord named Harry_Kinomoto asking for his insights: he's a pretty smart guy, and always manages to be thought provoking. Bad Endings -- Let me add one thought here. Some VNs (like Sharin no Kuni, or Fate/Stay Night) are written so the choices are based on the character/personality of the protagonist. Others, like Katawa Shoujo or G-Senjou no Maou are written with the expectation that the reader will "reflect" themselves onto the protagonist. This leads to interesting dilemmas: In the first kind of story, choosing actions that "fit in" with the protagonist's personality generally lead you to the main heroine's "true route". In the latter category, where the protagonist largely melts away and the reader is making the choices based on their own character, the choices are more clearly skewed to "Good" "Neutral" and "Bad", and you, the reader, have to choose what you want to happen. A lot of VN readers are frustrated, like you, when they get bad endings. That's part of the reason walkthroughs are so popular. As for me (and probably stemming from my experiences writing interactive fiction), I can somehow always tell what response is the "most in tune" response to the protagonist's (or my own) personality. Like I said, those choices invariably lead to the "good" or "true" ends of the main heroine. Therefore, frustratingly, I've never gotten a bad ending in all my time of playing VNs (at least, not without purposefully seeking them out). In any case, if it's frustrating you, I'd suggest playing a new game (with a walkthrough), and comparing the choices YOU'D have made (and where they go), with the choices the walkthrough says you should take if you want this ending, or that ending. Maybe by doing that, you can diagnose your own problem. Thanks for such a great intro post! Welcome!

    Hello

Welcome! I loved the videos -- very impressive. : ) I've tried my hands at the angel beats intro as well, and I'm totally with you on the strong-left-hand-ness of it. You've played tons of the classic VNs! Have a favorite?
  4. Hey, awesome! We're here for you, so keep us posted on how you're doing!
  5. Awesome : ). As always, hope to see more.
  6. Oh dear... This one was pretty fun. Is this the sort of thing you doodle, and your other images more "planned" projects?
  7. This is great! Kind of strange suggestions for similar images on deviantart (here) -- I'm seeing WWII bombers -- but awesome Donald : )
  8. Woot! Another brave warrior! Good luck. Keep us posted
  9. Hi! Welcome to the forums! Have a favorite game?
  10. So, lol, this hopefully doesn't reflect on my university experience, but even though I'm a senior at the U and have done my fair share of studying all along the way, I've experienced this same thing with these kanji! As you get going your brain starts to function better/faster, and at times I find my mind surprising me with how well it works. It's kind of humbling to see how human beings are built to learn/absorb/improve, even when attempting difficult things.
  11. It was a lot, yeah. As far as reinforcement -- it may just be faith-power, but my absolute and total trust in SRS hasn't let me down yet. On my original deck I reviewed the problem kanji plenty of time and regularly, so all of them ultimately sink in (stupid 'resemblance' vs 'likeness' vs etc.). Thus, on the whole, it's gone faster (especially with the first ~300 kanji) but not any harder. : ) Thanks for taking the time to read up and comment.
  12. 1 Week Blog Post Hey everybody! So, things are going well for the most part. As I've mentioned in the past, I was juggling two decks (my original RTK progress, and this new one, which I restarted for this blog series). I'm in the middle of midterms at school, and have been feeling super overloaded. Therefore, I've decided to retire my original RTK deck and focus solely on my new one. I missed one day this week, but otherwise have been going strong. Missing one day really kills you on built-up reviews, though, so just know that it comes at a steep price! Part of the problem is that (with studying/night classes/etc.) I haven't maintained my early AM study regimen. I've made a goal to get back on track starting tomorrow (6AM awake, 6:15 studying), which will make a big difference. Thanks for reading, and for everybody taking the challenge with me. I'm having fun, and with only one RTK deck I know the load will get much lighter from here on out : ). - Tay
  13. When that sees air, I'll see you there. One round. To the death. ; )
  14. Way to keep going. When you hit the big 1K, please do not refrain from freaking out and plastering Katawa Shoujo pics all over Steve's wall. (In other words, we want to celebrate with you )
  15. Just wanted to pipe in and thank everybody for the great input. When life slows down I'll be looking through all of it and adding some to the different parts of the guide. Thanks again!

    greetings

    Welcome!
  21. Hooray! What an awesome surprise! Welcome!!
  22. (Looks like you're reserving spots. If I interrupt multiple reserved slots, I'll delete this post and repost later) First, congrats on 200! While on one hand it's hard to see how much more there is to go, the other hand should make us freakin' happy -- in just days you've nailed down 200 kanji! You're 10% done. That's pretty awesome. Second, regarding things getting harder: I've had one or two periods where I start to feel like I'm 'grinding' kanji XP. I found that if it doesn't get better by the next day (tomorrow), I'd recommend taking a one-day break from new kanji and just reviewing the old kanji. With whatever extra study time you would have used to learn new Kanji, I'd meditate or whatever will help jazz you up for the next day. (such as reading Love Hina ; )) No question that that's a TON of time. If it gets to a point where you can't give it that much time, or you start feeling tired giving it that much time, I'd suggest dropping down to 25 or 15 new kanji for a few days to wipe out reviews, and to recharge your batteries. Now -- it sounds like you're going strong, so perhaps it's not necessary at this point, but don't be afraid of "recharge" days in the future (but, even on those days, it's important to learn at least SOME new kanji [like 5-10]).
  23. Happy Birthday, sir!

  24. Very cool -- never seen this before. For the record, I'm still interested in learning what skin they're running.
  25. Yay! Ura! Yaata!
