The reason for why new PULLTOP VNs are all going through Moenovel might not be because PULLTOP doesn't want to sell license to someone else. It could be that no localizer wanted to do their VNs and didn't contact them at all. Peach Princess (now bought by JAST) localized Princess Waltz, but maybe after that nobody contacted them for anything, so they decided to do their own thing. It might be that they'd be still open for a localization by another company if that other localizer tried contacting them or something. Yeah, I know I am talking about lots of "what if" and I know there's no real way to check if a localizer even had a talk with PULLTOP. Still, it's something to have in mind. It's a possibility xD (and my wishful thinking ^^).

Personally, I don't see them as one and the same, even though they may in reality be that way (I don't really know how independent or not Moenovel really is). But even if that was the case... then let them go under. If they can't respect the western audience and can't fulfill the bare minimum of what we as fans (and customers) deserve, then I can't care about them staying afloat as a company. If it takes PULLTOP to go under so Moenovel would stop existing, so be it. I'd be content with that. But it's most likely what Dergonu said. Just a quick job for PULLTOP to try to squeeze a buck out from a poor western fan who doesn't know any better. So yeah, don't worry about PULLTOP, they'll be fine regardless of how good or bad Moenovel is doing.

I was hoping they'd go bankrupt sooner rather than later. But they are too stubborn to die, so it'll never happen.

I didn't read Kana Imouto, but I heard it's very good. There's also a cameo appearance of Kana in Crescendo (the scene in the cinema, I forgot on whose route). Heart de Roommate is on my "to read some day" list, as well as Kazoku Keikaku (although I heard that the writer of this one is Tanaka Romeo... one of the hardest writers to TL, hence all the complaints about TL being bad xD). What I did read, though, is Yukizakura. It's one of the weakest moeges I've ever laid my hands on. I read it twice. Once back in 2011 and last year again when I came back into VN reading. One of the most boring moeges for me, hands down. I found all heroine routes to be shit (aside from maybe Saki, but even she has a decent at most route). The only interesting character in the VN is Sumiyoshi. They should have given him the protag role. He's much more worth than the MC whose name I can't even remember now. Anyway, I spent most of Yukizakura's routes by yawning. Common route - somewhat okayish. But then it nosedives in quality the moment some romance needs to develop. The only other VN that I found more annoying is "Figures of Happiness". I rated them both "5" on VNDB, but honestly, I hated "Figures of Happiness" more.

For me, the most emotional moment in Crescendo is: But overall, it was a fine VN. Not excellent or super amazing, but for the age when it came out, it was pretty good compared to all the other trash G-Collections used to put out.

That only means that the translation for the game began before the updated edition came out. They probably already made the calculation for the translation costs and so on. Localization on VNs often begins before the final edition of a said VN comes out. For example, where's my updated Kuroinu, MangaGamer? Or my HD Remastered version of Eroge! ? Etc., etc. Sometimes we do get updated editions (like with the forthcoming Kindred Spirits on the Roof ~Full Chorus~), but it always means more localization costs for the company doing it. As I already said... it's very likely that Crescendo and Tsuki failed to sell well enough for G-Collections to consider translating the updated content for them.

To be honest, I found it to be the best route/ending in the entire VN. The school nurse and the whore had good routes, but weak conclusions. Miyu, on the other hand, had all I wanted from this VN.

Regarding Crescendo and Tsuki... No, they didn't cut anything. G-Collections localized these 2 VNs slightly before their later editions came out. And as per usual in the western VN industry, we never, or very rarely at least, get these later editions updates for the original western localized VNs. So it wasn't "cut", but more like "never updated". Not strange considering VNs were selling even worse back in the day, so there was no incentive to update them at all.

I know JAST does do physical copies, but I never heard they are gonna do them for Ninetail. That's why you got me confused. Anyway, from what I know, only thing that JAST did for Ninetail is helping them a bit with promotion on Twitter and hired an editor for them. I don't think they offered them, or that they will for that matter, deal to do physical copies. So you don't really have to be worried about that. If anything, there are numerous other reasons for why the project could stall. Only one thing concering JAST that can go "slow" is editing, but even that is doubtful since the editor they hired is a known pro who worked for FrontWing, MangaGamer, and others. It's not some random nobody who takes decades. So there's no way for JAST to stall this project.

You with this again? Haven't I (actually we) already told you multiple times that JAST isn't a publisher in this case? O_o Ninetail is the publisher. For the nth time. JAST's speed won't have anything to do with how fast this is gonna be finished.

I don't think they canceled it. Unless it flopped in Japan too, it's probably gonna get fully translated and released in the West as well. However... I can't say it's looking too promising. This is why episodic releases are bad. Who's at fault if, say, the original dev doesn't finish the series? You're left with an episodic unfinished mess. Just look at Supipara to see why this model sucks so much.

It's not really that unknown. I see people calling it "Aokana 2.0/Not Aokana", so I guess it's a title that has something in common with Aokana.

I think that at least 1/3 of titles on that list will fall into oblivion (Hanasaki?! Flowers?! Really? Those will hardly be remembered as classics xD). Especially those that had no translation. And that reminds me... VNDB users often vote on untranslated stuff based only on art and popular opinion. I know some of these were taken as disappointment at large by those who actually read them. Aside from a chunk of really good titles on that list, others will surely not be considered classics at all. Speaking of which, my original point was about how many titles produced in this era will be remembered and talked about. I didn't say there aren't some amazingly good titles that came out in this era. I tried to do the same rating comparison for VNs between 2000 and 2012, and... it's not good data represantation. The list is skewed toward titles that have been translated. Yeah, I know it's expected considering what the main VNDB demographic is. I guess finding untranslated classics with this method won't be an easy task using VNDB xD ...

Indeed. And that brings me to my next point. How many VNs from 2013 and then onward to, say, 2024, do you think will be considered classisc in the times to come? Sometimes for hours, I browse VNDB entries from the last 6 years, and I can't help but wonder how many of these will be talked about in a couple of years from now, if at all. I seriously doubt we'll have as many classics as we had in the years between 2000 and 2012.

To be quite frank, many older VNs are much better than nowadays releases. You don't have to look far to find many VN fans from the JOP circle who think older VNs had generally better stories and more love put into them. I think even a discussion on this happened not too long ago here on Fuwa. So fanTLers focusing on oldges wouldn't be such a bad development, not at all. I myself am quite interested in many oldges, and yeah, that includes Sayooshi. Speaking of it, there already is a fanTL of Sayooshi. If I remember correctly, Cafe did a translation of it back in the day, but never released it as he wants Visual Arts to do it officially.

Nounai Kanojo title. Good taste :thumbs_up: Anyway, no, you need a hacker to decrypt these .ypn files. Every YU-RIS engine VN has its own decryption code for the scripts, and for each VN one needs to manually find which one it is. It shouldn't be too hard to find it, but I have no idea how hackers do it. A friend of mine did it relatively easy before, but I have no idea how.

Sigh... I guess I remembered it wrong. I couldn't find any thread, but maybe it was a post? I dug this out and I think that may be what I remembered. If that's not it, then I wrongly remembered by whom the thread/post was. I know it was very informative about TL quality and had ratings listed.

I haven't read enough VNs to judge that yet. That's why I said "that may exist". I remember Decay made a thread on Fuwa about his opinion on TL quality for a selection of VNs. I haven't read Grisaia, so I cannot confirm it's a 9), but according to popular opinion, it may very well fit. Also, another possible 9) could be Majo Koi Nikki. Knowing who worked on it, I think it may come out as a work of real literature. I guess we'll know once Sekai releases it for everyone to see. Aside from these two... I'm not sure what other titles could be a 9). Oh, Symphonic Rain maybe? Haven't read that one either, so can't say it's my opinion. As for the titles I have read so far, none of them is a 9). Closest would be SubaHibi (I consider it a number 7 in this list), Dies irae (between 6 and 7 maybe... due to a ton of QC issues it had) and Swan Song (I am not sure where I'd put this one... I read it in the time where I haven't cared too much about quality, but from what I remember, it was an okay translation... maybe 6 or 7).
