It can definitely add a lot of character, charisma and significance, but the Nintendo DS era proved, quite definitively, that VNs can be expressive, varied and engaging even without it. (I'm thinking about Ace Attorney and 999 here, mainly) I don't think I've ever decided no voices was better than any provided VA, though.

I think that the archetypal nature of many characters and storylines let people ignore what it is they're beating their meat to. There are so many common, trite and unrealistic situations/events/characterizations in eroge that it starts to make the audience view the VN's perspective as sort of its own perspective of rules. These inconsistencies (wrt. real life) such as deflowering/first sex always going smoothly, the girl always orgasming, unrealistic amounts of sperm and stamina etc. make us implicitly think "Okay this is obviously not realistic sex so I can suspend judgment on what I'm seeing." I call this "hentai logic", because the eroge scene's tropes in this regard very closely mirror the hentai industry. "Hentai logic", in other words, lets us excuse the myriad occurrences of sexism, rape (violation of consent, in many small and dismissed ways), and manipulation, which leads to a greater amount of people who can stomach fictional fetishes that are outright disgusting and tragic ("otherwise"). I'm still trying to come to terms on how valid that argument is in terms of moral ground. "Hentai logic" lets us ignore the consequences of the actions we fap to. I believe that's why we so often see people whose fetishes in fiction don't always transfer to real life.

Hyper/airheaded heroines, tsundere, obnoxious fucks, haven't seen a single appealing yandere... I'm still in HS and I gotta say, I would've gotten much more out of most VNs if their cast felt like actual people or interesting personalities. Trying to sell so outplayed archetypes as a regular girl just doesn't jive with my experience. Especially the entire "E-e-e-hhhh????? Sex??????? Whaaaaa???????" bullshit gets really tiring. At least kuudere can somewhat portray the endemic lack of self-confidence and sadness that's often prevalent at this age. I especially hate how almost all of these characters are defined and developed only/mainly through their relationship with the protagonist. We don't see any of their other sides. We don't see their prejudices, their small struggles, their "me times" (no I don't mean masturbation you horny shits I mean what they do and think when they're alone), or their mistakes. Call me romantic, but I find it difficult to connect to such characters. Part of why I enjoy non-SoL VNs much more, interesting plot premises can lead to far more interesting interactions.

If you're such a big tsundere, would you really confess it so openly? Hmmm...

What are your thoughts on Western indie VN's?
Funyarinpa replied to Thatcomicguy's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Sakura deserves all the hate it gets tbh - Extremely derivative and uninspired - Hurt the development of the industry in the West, especially OELVNs, by becoming a popular VN despite being so shit -The dev is an exploitative fucko (there's an expose on YouTube) -

Fuwa Confession: I Have to Take a Complex Decision

You'd need to contact Japanese schools and government officials to get an idea of how you can make such a move. As far as I know, Japan is quite selective in terms of only accepting very highly skilled immigrants, so you might have some trouble getting a visa. And even when you do, I hear many things about how immigrants have a very difficult time adapting and being accepted. Furthermore, the IB program is highly intensive. I have friends who took the program between 10th and 11th grade, and they barely had time for a few extracurriculars. I'm not sure if you'll be able to earn a living wage by working if you'll be doing the IB, especially considering the added costs of IB textbooks and the like (given how intensive Japan is, I wouldn't want to consider the culture around IB cramming.) I'd recommend you to look at other options, somewhere in the EU perhaps, if you dislike Denmark. If you're broke, I don't think it'll be very viable for you to go to Japan and establish a life there. But I don't know your circumstances, so I might be talking outta my ass. -
Can you remember the first 5 VNs you ever played?

You read Chiru before the question arcs? --- Starting in December '13 or thereabouts: 1) Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors 2) Virtue's Last Reward (Feb '14) 3) Ever17 (April?) 4) Remember11 (April) 5) Steins; Gate (April) -
Ow. Man.

I think it's a dream worth chasing after, especially if you've not been able to find many friends or worthwhile activities in your current school. University is a special time.

My newest fucking kink is maturity and mutual respect then ;_;

Look man I just want anime styled porn that's about people who actually love each other having sex, presented realistically and sweetly. No more of this "we'll just act like condoms don't exist" or "she says 'no'? I'll DO EXACTLY THAT BECAUSE THAT'S HOW I TREAT PEOPLE I LOVE" bullshit in everything Is that too much to ask ;_;

I thought that was just a shitty moege, this bumps it up in my list considerably

higurashi's sixth chapter, come out you coward

exactly I did read one nukige where the student council president and protag actually get their asses fucking busted in the council room though, it has real consequences (mc barely avoids expulsion while the girl is deadass expelled for abusing her position, they are forced to avoid each other for months, and end up giving up on college at the end bc she's pregnant lol) and it was both dramatic and fucking hilarious edit: I'm talking about HaraKano. Pregnancy focused nukige, pretty good but too few scenes (but like 7 routes).
-
speak for yourself I want to see people found a family for once (preferably not characters who are fifteen in appearance and twelve in mindset, though)
-
nah not the final route In turn I'd like to ask you the name of that eroge

Hey y'all! I just got here and I wish to have a great time

Welcome! Have an OST: -
this isn't localized is it ;_; edit: The only scene I saw where menstruation's a factor is in one of Euphoria's routes (the protagonist's forced to eat the woman in question out (while she's on her period) by his archenemy because that's what Euphoria is like)
