Was that game out before Battle Royale? Death game with exploding collars is too much like Battle Royale... which means this is probably awesome

I just wish 12Riven and Before Crime; After Days translations actually progressed, the former is on hold for the translation of Killer Queen I think, while the latter is on hiatus to see if a PS port brings over a lot of new stuff. I only read Steins; Gate and I am currently in episode 3 of Umineko no Naku Koro Ni- that's all in this year so far, since I have many other dwellings than VN's (video games, books, school, electric guitar, mandatory daily procrastination, etc.) Umineko is like a weird rollercoaster of feelings: I feel somewhat "dislodged" when I read it: I do not know what to think and the game makes you feel many things back-to-back: Happiness, relief immediately followed by fear, disgust and anger. I quite like it.

I would mention the series I think is sci-fi, but the name itself is a spoiler- only open if you don't care: (hint: If you know what "tu fui, ego eris." means, you are good to go!)

This game is probably the biggest reason I want a Vita right now.

I cannot second this enough! (VLR is my all-time favorite video game, so...) Also, it is just a JRPG with VN elements as far as I know, but Persona 4 Golden for PS Vita is critically acclaimed, just so you know.

Dammit. As far as I know, Xbox in Japan sells like Vita in the west-near none. And 5pb goes and makes a remarkably niche game as an exclusive for XB1?! COME ON! Ever17 was at least a remake... (For the record: I think there is a JP only S;G release for Vita.)

Ever17 and Steins; Gate are my recommendations for the PC, and since you evidently have a Vita, I cannot help but recommend Danganronpa and Virtue's Last Reward(you are better off reading the prequel 999 first though, which is a DS exclusive)! Bid farewell to your social life, for you are now in the infinity loop of VN.

I think that prices might be a deal breaker for newcomers to the genre. I would not invest 40 USD* for a game I was not sure I'd like myself(from a beginner's perspective.) *Steins; Gate official localization price (I think)

His tastes are quite similar to mine Well, if he has read 999 he owes it to himself to play Virtue's Last Reward. Don't forget that Danganronpa 2 remake is being localized for Vita which is coming out in September! I have heard I/O is another good sci-fi VN. If he can read untranslated, I think Root Double(google it) looks pretty awesome(though I do not know jacks**t about Japanese, so I do not have more of an opinion.)

A new PS Vita Slim was introduced recently, it is cheaper, lighter, slimmer(duh), has longer battery life, micro USB port, better ergonomics and 1GB of internal storage. However, the OLED is sacrificed for an LCD screen which is generally considered inferior to OLED.

It indeed is! Though you might need to play indies/remakes/ports/old PSN games more than you expect since it lacks in exclusives, from what I can see as someone that wants one too.

I bought another humble bundle... My backlog hates me. Otherwise, I am in the minority that did not like Fire Emblem Awakening very much, so my 3DS is not getting a lot of love nowadays.

My room has zero otaku signs... there are a few video game posters though.
