I ended up doing the stupidest thing I could do and booted up Clannad. Art is atrocious but I got through Umineko's original version three years ago, I'll be fine (though the sprites in this VN are even worse). So far -and by that I mean as far as talking to the girl eating anpan in the courtyard- I kind of like the music and the backgrounds, but honestly I feel like the game can't focus on a consistent tone. First it's desolate and depressing, and five minutes later it's your average goofy SoL scene with that blonde kid. I wish it'd stick to the lonely stuff for now, feels like that's what the game is going for the most. Also seems like there'll be a lot of classic high school setting shenanigans (that whole thing with the class president was generic as hell). Edit: I'll also most likely stall it, I really don't have the time for large-scale games right now.

well seeing as how the vast majority of all visual novels (especially translated ones) are on PC, I think we'll need more than that to recommend you stuff you're interested in? You want to cry, though? The House In Fata Morgana and Planetarian are my recommendations.

I just started reading Consider Phlebas. That sounds FUN

actually went and borrowed the first fucking volume of Feynman's Lectures on Physics from the school library. It's, I shit you not, a full-on textbook, but it's written in amazingly concise prose, so it's readable cover-to-cover from what I've seen. That isn't to say it's not daunting as fuck. It is. Also bought Consider Phlebas as an ebook. Somewhat interesting.

Literally the only reason I would ever go windowed is if I was skipping through the game while following a walkthrough step-by-step. I'm really surprised that windowed is actually winning your poll. It ruins my whole immersion if I play windowed, with all the icons and windows in the background and all that.

There are hundreds if not thousands of visual novels that feature voice acting. If you want to read one, you should also mention any genre or theme you'd prefer, since there's too many of them to give you recommendations otherwise. You can also browse this tag on VNDB to browse for some visual novels with voice acting.

Nice. I started the electric guitar 3 years ago with a similar intent (playing the rocks songs and such I used to love then), but it went nowhere (as it often does with me and things that require hard work and dedication). Hope you come to a level enough to play these things you love.

I want Astrophysics as my major (or failing that, Literature), which instantly eliminates 95% of colleges since very few places offer astrophysics as a major (NUS doesn't, you apparently need to be a Honors student to specialize in astrophysics there...).

Confession: I just learned today that I will not be able to afford studying at a top-level university in the UK, and most likely Canada as well. It hits hard- I always assumed my parents would be able to pull through since thanks to them I've always lived an extremely comfortable life. Looking into other options I hadn't considered before, now. Considering to apply to NUS (Nat. Uni. of Singapore), I have a sufficient ACT score for it but will have to take SAT Subject Tests and excel at them; the Singaporean government apparently has this amazing subsidy that takes care of more than half the price of tuition. I'll need to work for three years after graduation in Singapore if that happens, though. Also looked up life in Singapore and apparently it has very stringent rules for the sake of public order and policies for everything (there's a famous chewing gum ban). Anyone with experience/opinions on that (and Singaporean life overall)? Apparently a big majority is also religious... :/ Alternatively, this means that I will have to finally get my ass working and struggling for my dream of studying astrophysics at a good university in a good country. I'll really have to boost my GPA and everything, and to top that, I'll really need all exam qualifications I can get (APs, SAT Subject Tests) and get some good extracurricular activities to boot. It's settled in a couple years too late, but I'm starting to feel the worst bout of college entrance anxiety yet.

I don't know any Japanese, but I didn't find anything about the original's fan translation bad or egregious. I love the original YU-NO's art style far more than the remake's, so I'm inclined to prefer the original release, but the remake might improve the game in other ways (especially some really obtuse gameplay systems), so I can't say whether the remake is better or worse for sure. As for the ero, they're short-as-hell scenes that have no merit except some really hot art. There's practically no story significance to them whatsoever. So it's a small loss if you wanted to see sex, but practically negligible if you are in it just for the story.

It still gets games, it's still played, it's still produced in Japan; it isn't dead and I'm just tired of seeing people say that the Vita is dead.

Pretty sure that S;G's sales on Vita like doubled or tripled its sales on PS3. At least, so I heard. Seriously though, how the fuck did it get to 200K?! That's how much Danganronpa 1 AND 2 sold together on Vita in 2 years. And they're one of the most popular VN franchises I have seen.

Woow, CONGRATS! Amazing! I'm in the NEHS at my school (National English Honor Society) at my school, so I know how that feels like. It's definitely a worthwhile experience!
