I still end up mainly browsing screenshots on VNDB instead... There is one category called 傾向 (inclination) that might bear closer examination. That first one "okazu" appears on many nukige. (That word means f*p material) The next one may also be helpful "hitasura H-scenes" which means the game is big on H-scenes. There is also a moe tag in there and a "lots of girls" tag you can try.

Thanks! That style of list is actually more helpful. One can see where the game one is playing or translating ranks. It was good to have at least 100 data points as well. However, I changed the starting year from "1900" to "2000".

Maybe you should verify whether the problem is AnimeEd repack or not. Extract all files from scenario.rpd using AnimeEd, but do not touch any of the files. Then, use AnimeEd to repack the files. Copy this new scenario.rpd over the original one. If you get a black screen, the problem is AnimeEd. If it works, the problem is caused by your trying to edit the file. But it's always good to be sure.

The word "translation" continues to have its original meaning, despite all your demagoguery. Removing some H-scenes from a translation simply results in a censored translation. It does not result in a localization. It does not result in fan-fiction.

Hello, Well, speaking for America, I guess generally in the USA, galgames are not very popular. But among one group of people (like me) who have watched anime for a long time, they are popular. And they seem to be getting more popular (slowly). Popularity has to do not just with cultural gap, but also language availability (has to be in English for most Americans, but the games are usually in Japanese)

I would like to point out that the Japanese game studios themselves do not exhibit the reverence(?) for the full experience you seem to have. They have already demonstrated that if the game is a hit, they have no qualms about stripping out the love scenes and putting the game on a console, then adding more to the game's story than was originally present. Even in eroge there are re-RE-releases and changes to the stories there. Apparently the "full experience" is actually quite volatile...

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?? This is about translating.

Obviously people who like H-scenes are going to be pro H translation. So what else is new? The censorship argument doesn't work on me; once an unauthorized translation is decided upon, unauthorized censorship may also be applied (as long as it is advertised as such). The alternative is authorized translation and authorized censorship. As for me, I now skip all H content, and all my projects will be non-H. That doesn't necessarily mean all-ages, but it certainly means not X-rated. If a consumer version is available for a particular title, that one will be translated. If not, the PC version will be translated but censored so that I don't have to think about X-rated content. One thing I'm willing to do is provide a means for an uncensored project to be forked (i.e. derived) from mine up front, while it is still in progress, instead of making someone provide a restoration patch later.

Also, Lamune has a heavy focus on astronomy/stargazing-- in a particular girl's route. I hope to have said route done later on this year.

There is a water supply system installed here at Yadda Yadda Girls' Academy, and even hot water is made available using a pyroelectric mineral. That being said, the system is not as thoroughly installed as it would be in Japan. (Although the fact that the hot water comes out hot immediately might be considered more pleasant than in Japan.) Therefore, the places inside the school that one can get water are more limited. I have no idea about the roe part, are you sure it isn't a proper place name? The part about burying your bones somewhere is an expression. If you're going to bury your bones somewhere, it means you plan on living in the place 'til you die, more or less.

Yeah permission for use and attribution should be considered separately (and they usually are in licenses etc) Permission is one thing. The fan translator used the original without permission, so it makes sense you shouldn't need permission to use theirs for a derivative work I think. But attribution is different. Fan translators normally make it clear that it's their translation of some given original work and who it came from originally, don't they? If a fan translator's work is passed off as someone else's, there is one thing they can do for sure. Don't put up with it. Stop being a fan translator.

Funny you should mention that one, I was planning to try reading that one this week, since I don't know anything about Yuzusoft yet.

Thanks! Well, I know what that first one is saying right off: It selects whether the pan position of the sounds matches the position of the characters on-screen. If set to Off, all sounds will come from the center regardless of where the characters are. Otherwise, sounds may come from places other than the center. I don't see 己 very much at all. It can stand for the word "onore", but I usually see that written as kana. 自 is the common one and you'll see it constantly. It's pronounced "shi" or "ji" in a bunch of common words (look them up on wwwjdic): jibun (xxxself) jishin (itself) jishin (self-confidence) jiman (pride) jitaku (one's house) shizen (nature) jidousha (automobile) jitensha (bicycle) jiten (rotation) jiyuu (freedom) sometimes it also appears as "mizuka(ra)" which is a synonym for jibun

I finally got a used ps3 off of ebay. Naturally, the first game I picked is Project Diva F. The game is fantastically fun. Bargains come to those who wait. The special controller was no bargain, though...oh well.

OK...so at least you have a general idea what's going to happen, that should help prevent you from going off into the weeds. But even so, it should be easier to read a whole chapter at a time and then translate, because you are separating the tasks of "What's going on here?" and "How should I say this in English"? And yes it should also prevent you from having to go back and redo lines that you didn't quite have the context for. I dunno...maybe it's just my preference after all...I mean it CAN be done the one-line-at-a-time way, I did that once. But there were many lines that came out iffy, and I ended up having to go back through it a 2nd time. So either way, 2 reads were necessary and I feel I could've saved myself the trouble by not trying to type out a translation while I was reading it for the first time.

One Point of Advice: Don't let them talk you into translating a novel that you haven't already read. (If you do find yourself in that situation, at least read ahead one entire chapter before you start trying to translate said chapter.)
