  1. Except that, starting in season 2, the characters' eyes have a weird glassy appearance.
  2. Yesterday I finished watching DT Eightron, a post-apocalypse sci-fi epic by studio Sunrise
  3. I'll do it for you. It really was a good post.
  4. Well I'm inclined, but somewhat doubtful. I guess I will not pre-order but will wait to find out more about how the voices, BGM, length, routes, etc. turn out
  5. Yeah, the Japanese books you mentioned are somewhat pricey, but they might be useful once someone is no longer a beginner. Some people might be content to just pick up everything from reading, but others might not be satisfied with "probably got it right" and want to be proactive, and in that case I think they will benefit from careful study of the Handbook of Japanese Grammar / KLD books.
  6. I basically agree. I liked it a lot at first, but in the 2nd half of the show I felt like it jumped the shark.
  7. I see... Hmm, Cambridge Grammar of the English Language... I ought to take a look at that one. I hope it lists the differences between American and British English. By the way, I caught you! That last sentence should be "No English speaker in his right mind, myself included, is going to mark his students down for making this mistake, because that is just stupid." In particular, it doesn't make sense for any other English speaker to mark down your students.
  8. It seems to me that you could also re-arrange the first one to say "Uploading the podcast is necessary." Then it would be OK, right? And if that's the case, I think you can also say "To upload the podcast is necessary." But yes, "It is necessary to upload the podcast." sounds a little off (only after you called attention to it, though), and "it is necessary that the podcast be uploaded" does sound a lot better. More importantly, it's that second "be" that I take issue with. "So that I am able to continue posting them" sounds better to me...is that a typo or is it really correct the way you wrote it?
  9. I like how the window title I get on this is "Tour of Akihabara." I want to take THIS tour when I go to Japan.
  10. hell of it!
  11. Well, it's been a long time...maybe 3500 yen for the Nendoroid? Maybe 1500 yen for the cup... Shipping not included... More importantly, what'd you do to your avatar?? Nico, we hardly knew ye...
  12. Maybe Nursery Rhyme would be a good candidate for a Live TL, before it disappears off the grid entirely. I'm not offering, though...I seem to lack the time and/or computing resources to get streaming working.
  13. I don't exclusively watch moe anime by any means. But, yeah I like moe of all kinds. Let's look through my anime list and pull some random favorites: comedy/romantic moe: Ai Yori Aoshi Chokotto Sister Mayoi Neko Overrun Nagasarete Airantou Nyan Koi sci-fi moe: Angelic Layer Sky Girls Sora o Kakeru Shoujo Vividred Operation silly comedy moe: GJ-bu K-on Love Lab slice of life moe: Aria Binchou-tan Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight ecchi moe: Asobi ni Iku Yo To Love Ru Idol moe: Love Get Chu Love Live Lovely Idol The Idolmaster magical girl moe: Fantasista Doll Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel Mahou Sensei Negima Lyrical Nanoha Zero no Tsukaima
  14. Well, me too, I never really took to any of the other Vocaloids the way I did to Miku. I have a Nendoroid of her with the 2 negi, the Figma poseable version (also with 2 negi), and a darn nice coffee mug. And the Project Diva games with the specialized controller, and the galgames where Miku falls in love with you
  15. Yes, cf. Season 1, Ep. 21 "Mirror Image"
  16. Since every game is programmed differently, any kind of text formatting question is best answered by verifying it yourself. For that reason, the earlier in the project you have a tool to re-insert the English text, the better off you are.
  17. It doesn't have to be. They could call it "Lovey-Dovey Boyfriend"
  18. Yeah I didn't really mean well-known dropped projects, I mean stuff translators might have sitting around that hasn't really ever got off the ground...
  19. Wasn't really sure whether this should go under fan translations or under games & chatter. So I'll try putting it here. Just wondering what other translation "attempts" are sitting out there w/o actually being a project. What kind of stuff, if any, do you have translated but it hasn't really gone anywhere? And why hasn't it gone anywhere? For me: Trigger Heart Exelica Enhanced. Why: Lack of time. It'll get done eventually. But publishing is dependent on getting a good PS2 reverse-engineer or I guess I could hand the script files over to someone who's willing to re-format it into a nice Read-Along guide since there are no choices other than which girl's story you choose. Kanojo x Kanojo x Kanojo. Why: Um, giving up hentai kind of makes it impossible for me to ever translate more than 50% of the game. And I have no experience building a translation team. You can see a screenshot of the English version on my blog. Manga Guide to Lisp. Why: I got sick of the guy's HANDWRITTEN kanji that he just scanned in, it was taking forever. And then I lost half the text files somehow. A small part of it is still out there on the internet somewhere. Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel. Why: Lack of time. I don't want to work on another VN right now. But after the 3rd route of Lamune, I was thinking of taking a break from it and doing this one. VN only has one route btw.
  20. Hi, I'm always up for talking about the Japanese language and/or translation and/or anime. If you want to chat, get on our related TS sometime.
  21. I liked every girl in Brighter than Dawning Blue, Lamune and almost every girl in Shuffle Being blown by the entire female cast sounds like a good time to me.
  22. "data.bin" is kind of a generic name...hard to know what it really is. Had a game with data.bin a while back...I opened the file with HxD and took a snapshot of the first couple hundred bytes or so... Then people were able to help me identify and extract it. Still haven't been able to put the file back together, though :-/
  23. Having fun with Minami-ke. Compares very favorably with the anime. On vol 2 now.
  24. Well, this is not an uncommon problem...in fact I'm having the same sort of problem myself with one of my games :-/ It's possible AnimeED has some kind of bug... But we also shouldn't rule out user error... :-) If you can, double check and make sure you are using it right (are there docs or help or something?) For example, if you point it at the wrong folder or choose the wrong files, it may produce a bad archive without telling you. If there is a big difference in file size between the good file and the bad one, it might be a clue. Or, try to convince someone else who has the time to try AnimeED for themselves and see if they get the same error you do...
  25. of your mind.
