  1. Snapping at third-party observers who support your decision probably isn't the best way to convince others of your impartiality and fair-mindedness. If you handle your moderation role with such sarcasm and thinly-veiled passive aggression, I could easily see how spats like this would arise.
  2. @Eai You haven't really explained why you even want to participate in a chat where everyone treats you like a troll. Consider: is there even a single regular user that even wants you around? And if not, why would you even want to participate? As I see it, Fuwa forums and Fuwa chat serve different purposes. Fuwa forums are a place for disseminating information and topical discussion. Fuwa chat is for socializing and tends to be more tightly-knit. Given these diverging purposes, I'm perfectly fine with Fuwa chat having a stricter moderation policy: if no one wants you there, and you give them any objective reason at all to boot you, you're gone. Unfortunately, given your history you've more or less forfeited the right to equal treatment, and you'll always be viewed with suspicion. You're going to have to live with the consequences of your actions. You appear to be no longer welcome in chat, regardless of whether a moderator bans you or not. I'd recommend cutting your losses and striving to avoid the same fate on your forum account. Disclaimer: I hardly ever visit Fuwa chat or talk to anyone there, and I have no special knowledge of this situation.
  3. Steam is an untapped market for eroge. There's definitely interest there. Unfortunately, this interest is tightly focused on games with the following attributes: cheap (less than $20), shallow / fanservice-oriented, and having interactivity/gameplay/animation (all unusual traits in professional eroge). In other words, the games Steam players drift towards are the games VN fans tend to dismiss. Case-in-point: One of my bestselling affiliate titles is Harajuku Dating Paradise, a game that I don't even mention anywhere on my blog. It fits all of those parameters except animation. Most VN fans probably haven't even heard of the game, yet somehow my audience is attracted to it like gnats to light. I honestly don't even know how they're finding it.
  4. Value is relative. This is a Steam gamer's perspective: "I can buy AAA budget games deep discounted for $10-20 1 year after release with 50-100hrs of gameplay, that cost much more to develop. Why should I pay the same or more for a low-budget title of the same length or less?" The answer: You pay a premium for niche content. AAA games have a large budget but also a large customer base to disperse those costs over. VNs are niche with a smaller customer base, and therefore they have to keep prices somewhat higher in order to recoup costs (as niche content also tends to have a more inelastic demand curve; as price decreases, sales volume doesn't increase quite as much). But mainstream AAA games are limited in the types of content they can feature, as they must always have broad appeal. Can't have hardcore ero in a mainstream title, for example.
  5. I'm not a political scientist, and part of my point in posting that article is simply to show the complexity of the issue. Just like medical intervention, political intervention is likely to have off-target effects, and we need to understand these. That said, I'm a strong proponent of intelligent and nonpartisan campaign finance reform, which is why I was initially attracted to Bernie Sanders's campaign. I witnessed what appeared to be a political science seminar where the speaker compellingly argued for radical reforms similar to the ones presented in your second link. If I recall correctly, he admitted that the reforms proposed would likely be blocked by established interests.
  6. I'm not sure if all-caps is the way to go. THERE'S A REASON THAT WE DON'T TYPE LIKE THIS WHEN COMMUNICATING IN WRITING. IT'S HARDER TO PARSE SENTENCES. Also, I find the text displayed here very difficult to digest. The information isn't presented in a logical fashion, with one idea cleanly leading into the next, and the sentences don't flow smoothly.
  7. I came across another article that elaborates on the point that government relies on some degree of irresponsiveness to its constituents (and loyalties imposed on them by party officials and other aspects of the much-maligned political machine) in order to function properly. The Atlantic: How American Politics went Insane
  8. Windows 8 -> Windows 10 is a straight upgrade and you won't encounter compatibility issues. Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or Windows 10 is where compatibility issues can arise. Every source I've looked at says that Win10 is better than Win8 in pretty much every way--unless you're concerned about privacy. Not upgrading to Win10 is unlikely to prevent you from playing VNs in the next few years. However, I've heard discussion in the tech community that mainstream 3D games may soon target DirectX 12 exclusively due to the improved feature set and greater efficiency, and those wouldn't work on any OS other than Windows 10.
  9. Source? I wasn't aware of any followup statement by JAST, and this is an issue I've approached them about recently. Regarding cut content in Aselia the Eternal: Full post Connections between Seinarukana and Aselia the Eternal: Seinarukana technically takes places in the same universe as Aselia the Eternal, not too long after the events of Aselia the Eternal. However, Seinarukana takes place in the Time Tree, which can be thought of as a self-contained pocket dimension in that universe which is difficult to enter and impossible to leave. One of the minor characters that later joins your party (Euphoria) is connected to Aselia's route in Aselia the Eternal; she's one of the characters that manages to enter into this pocket dimension. She has amnesia however so you don't get much of a sense of connectedness. Even the lore between the two games is only loosely connected because the Time Tree is self-contained with its own natural laws that govern it. The lore connections that do emerge only did so in the epilogue (I've played Satsuki's route so far).
  10. I learned yesterday that "Psycho-Pass" is a play on the word "psychopath" in Japanese. I found this enlightening.
  11. I checked: in 2012, the US spent more on its elections ($6 billion USD) than the GDP of Somalia (slightly less than that). For further context, NASA (probably our best shot at avoiding eventual extinction due to nuclear war and/or climate change) 's budget in 2015 was $18 billion USD.
  12. Personally I think the problem is that people are being sucked into pitched battles between interest groups, with money funneled into one-sided advertising that ends up polarizing everyone involved. It's no longer a discussion. It's simply a war of ideas with combat lines established and soldiers recruited to do battle for each ideological "nation". Their job isn't to solve problems. Their job is to beat the other side senseless. And that's the current state of American politics in a nutshell.
  13. I glanced at the Ikusa Megami edited machine translation and while some parts were ok others weren't even recognizable. They just rewrote entire sections that they couldn't make sense of in the machine TL, and they didn't do a particularly good job of it either. More details here.
  14. You really should blog about this yourself and have someone link to it rather than rely on others to market your game for you. Also, you're treading a fine line by asking others to promote your game on Reddit, where they link back to the thread and thus expose a blatant intent to subvert the rules against self-promotion. I could envision Reddit moderators calling foul, removing the post, and then banning mention of Black Sands from the subreddit for good. That's sort of why I was resistant to promoting this for you, and demanded that you reveal objectively compelling news before I'd consider sponsoring it.
  15. Time Magazine - Former Intel. Official: American Hate Is a Bigger Threat Than Foreign Terrorism The quote I found most compelling applies even to the sorts of Internet discussions about non-political topics we have on Fuwanovel every day:
  16. Kind of interesting that the battle system graphics look barely changed from Baldr Force EXE (based on the Getchu screenshots), which was released 13 years ago.
  17. I'm a demanding person, and most people would find me exasperating to work with. But if you look at the type of articles I self-promote on Reddit (e.g., Why I endorse JAST's censorship of Shiny Days) and links I post on Reddit in general, you'll see that what I ask of you is no more than I ask of myself and others. If the information is too sensitive to disclose, that's fine. I'm simply giving you an idea of what my criteria for "novel and appealing content I'd be interested in promoting" is. I DID warn you on Twitter that working with me means bartering in souls.
  18. Provide a detailed breakdown of art costs in your game (static and animated) expounding on the points you've made, and I'll link to it on /r/visualnovels. You can post it here or elsewhere, at your discretion. The theme of this post should be "developer insight into the costs of making a visual novel", though of course you can promote your game/art while you're at it.
  19. You're going to animate the game? That's ambitious. How much does that add to sprite / CG costs? That's something I've always wondered.
  20. What confuses me is why people are excited about games like this and presumably not... other, better titles. Do they simply not know these other games exist? But how did they learn about this series then? So many questions...
  21. Started my Hard Mode playthrough. The initial difficulty spike is pretty intense; your units are significantly underleveled and outmatched in raw skill power. Even with massive advantages from doing Satsuki's route first and having unlocked Nozomu's Eternal skills, I only managed to get S-rank in the first 2 missions. After that the new skills started to accumulate, I caught up to enemies in level, and the difficulty leveled out; I SS ranked the next two missions and the Drav fight was actually much easier in Hard Mode. Having to level each new companion that joins 10-30x while still maintaining pace for SS rank is going to be a pain, I can tell.
  22. Fuwanovel: A "safe space" where VN casualfags gather to circlejerk about otome games and cheap Western knockoffs, decry rational criticism and alternative viewpoints, and "translate" native Japanese-language works using text hookers, Google Translate, and the honed language skills they picked up from reading Heisig's Remembering the Kanji.
  23. I haven't played Umineko, but from what I understand it's a kinetic novel. This game is not. You can "win", "lose", and even get NTR'd from the looks of it. Choices and investigational skills matter here.
  24. Sidenote: This game is one of the most engrossing VNs I've played in recent memory. It has a similar "trapped with a killer" mystery-solving storyline as Danganroppa along with romantic sideplots.
  25. I helpfully put most of your arbitrary criteria into a VNDB search and sorted it in order of user rating. Ignore the games with English flags.
