How many times has fuwanovel gone down and we're not sure what's happening? Not only that, but we're left with no way to shitpost our memes and spam the forums. Things just can't stay this way. Well I have come up with the perfect solution for this problem: fuwanovel.rip ! fuwanovel.rip, if it were to exist, would be a tracking website that lets you know if fuwanovel is down. "Can't you just use sites like this for that purpose already?" well, yes, you can, but fuwanovel.rip is not JUST a tracking website. Here are the features I believe would truly make fuwanovel.rip something we MUST obtain: Every time you refresh the page, a random fuwanovel meme image appears. This is to ensure fuwanovel members can get their meme fix even when fuwanovel is down. There will also be a random quote from forums showing up, to remind you of how great fuwanovel is. Post selection will be done with the help of fuwanovel_txt In case there's no sign of fuwanovel being up, there will also be a selection of great videos that will randomly appear so you can be entertained while you wait. More features can be added with the input from our community as well so we can make fuwanovel.rip a second home when fuwanovel.net is down. Let's not let our memes be dreams, let's make them come true. I'm sure @Tay and @Nayleen can understand how vital the implementation of this idea is.9 points

I may never be the same again... Clannad broke me but nothing has ever made me question my own sanity as much as this game. The ending was probably the best for me because despite getting two bad endings before the good i realized that this was not a happy story and that there was no happy ending for me. So i may have called what was going to happen because i was so set on this being a tragedy. A beautiful BEAUTIFUL HEART-WRETCHING TRAGEDY AND I WILL PROBABLY HATE YOU FORVEVER because that was the first time i actually fell for a childhood friend in anything, When I can donate or if there's a kickstarter for the sequel i will be there in a heartbeat. Keep up the good work and also sick references xp. So all i can say is play this getting it some recognition and by all means support these people they flipping deserve it.3 points -

Ace Attorney Fan Case: "A Laggy Turnabout"
AaronIsCrunchy and one other reacted to Mr Poltroon for a topic
For the past 10 months I've been working on a secret project on and off. This is that project. A Fan Case created using an online case maker for Ace Attorney. Just the other day, I finally finished it. And after some extensive playtesting, I'm finally ready to share it with the 'world'. This case features: Terrible Writing Underdeveloped Characters Bad Puns Therefore, if you're looking for any of these things, go over to your local internet browser and play it for the very accessible price of FreeTM. Don't know what Ace Attorney is? Or maybe, you want to learn how to play this case using the case player? I've got you covered with this fantastic tutorial made by yours truly. What are you waiting for? Go over to this thread and play it now! All you need is to click the link under the section designated: "Link:" Ace Attorney Online is the website, forum, community, and free online case maker I used to create this fan case. You can play it on your browser using a PC or laptop. I'm fairly sure it doesn't work on mobile devices. It is preferable that you use Firefox as your internet browser, since Google Chrome doesn't support some of the effects, but it's a minor thing. If you have any criticism, opinions, or just want to flame me, please leave your comments on either this thread or the other one I linked to. Thanks for playing! ...If you do play, that is.2 points -
Tsui Yuri ~Okaa-san ni wa Naisho da yo~ Looking for: Translation checker: 1 Position filled. Information: We currently have a TLC on the project, however, due to him being very busy with other projects, we need one more for the team. The game is not very long, and the language used in it is fairly fluffy, but we are still looking for someone who are well versed in the Japanese language. As the translator on the project, I have to be honest and say that my personal level of Japanese is not top tier. (That is not to say it's bad of course.) The game itself is, like I said, not very difficult and fairly short, so I am confident I can produce a good translation for it, however I do find myself making small mistakes from time to time, (fairly small, usually insignificant mistakes, but I want the final product to be as professional as possible.) Also, every now and then I find a line I can't really make sense of. (For refrence, this has happened 2 times during the translation of over 10% of the game, so it is not a common occurrence.) I will then mark the sentence in the script and make sure the TLC will be able to pay close attention to that particular line, in order to make sure there are no uneccessary mistakes in the translation before it goes into editing. So, if you are interested in helping out, leave a comment or send me a PM on the forum. Alternatively you can reach me at [email protected] The team has several hardworking individuals on it, and I am very motivated to get this translation done. Let us know if you are interested in helping out! Link to the project page:2 points

For Love of VNs: For Beginners
nekofuwafuwa reacted to Clephas for a topic
This is a list of good games to begin your journey into playing VNs in Japanese. Inevitably, most of these games will be moege, charage, or nakige. There is little to be done about this, as chuuni, sci-fi, and fantasy-action VNs have linguistic barriers that will be too much for someone still struggling with reading conversational Japanese. In particular, the biggest barrier for someone who is used to dealing with Japanese that is 'spoken', rather than 'written' is the existence of literary Japanese. The turns of phrase, different wording, etc. that an inexperienced reader might run into can either be seen as a learning experience or as pure confusion, depending on your level and state of mind. As such, I am only putting down games that are readable for someone who understands spoken Japanese but is weaker in literary Japanese. I will also put a 'second level' for those who are interested in challenging themselves a little but not too much. This one will be for those who are willing to see if they can handle the easier action scenes, more difficult event descriptions, and the like. First Level: Maji Suki Marginal Skip Suzunone Seven Kamikaze Explorer Tsuisou no Augment (this game is hilarious, and it is not a moege. I recommend this to people who liked the atmosphere of Yume Miru Kusuri) Akabanzu - Real na Sekai de Boku ga Kimi ni Dekiru Koto (this game has only minor scientific terms and jargon, mostly related to AI and MMO's. Since it is distinctly possible you ran into these terms just watching anime, I went ahead and put this up.) Chuning Lover (this game is just generally rofl) Ichiban Janakya Dame Desu Ka (one of the few almost-pure comedy in my personal lineup) Otomimi Infinity Sakura Iro Quartet (this and the game above are for mimikko fetishists) Ryuusei Kiseki (sci-fi moege, fairly easy. Hardest parts are when the protag begins preaching about his hobby) Shiawase Kazoku-bu Sukimazakura to Uso no Machi (surrealist fantasy moege... mildly funny, interesting in general) Toppara - Zashikiwarashi no Hanashi (use this as your crash course in youkai) 12/30/2014 edit Love Revenge Real Imouto ga Iru Ooizumi-kun no Baai 08/15/2016 Edit Sakigake Generation Minamijuujisei Renka Primal Hearts Primal Hearts 2 World Election Koko Kara Natsu no Innocence Second Level: Irotoridori no Sekai (yeah, it is being translated, but it isn't done yet) Konata yori Kanata Made (relatively low-difficulty action/event scenes, as well as being an excellent entry point into the utsuge genre) Tiny Dungeon series (relatively normal conversational and event scenes, and the actions scenes are relatively low-difficulty, if somewhat fast-paced) Draculius (similar to above in the action) Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no (this game is probably one of the top three non-action/sci-fi/fantasy games I've played and it is harder than the games on the first level... but in exchange it is also a lot better, lol) Hyper→Highspeed→Genius (relatively high difficulty to first level, but it is easier than the games I'd prefer to introduce people to, lol) Koisuru Otome to Shugo no Tate - The Code Name is "Shield 9" (fanboys of fantranslations know this as one of the many dead projects) Ore no Tsure wa Hitodenashi Kaminoyu (this one and the one above are your source for non-human love in this stage, lol) Otome ga Tsumugu, Koi no Canvas (higher difficulty than first level primarily due to the art terms) Aete Mushisuru, Kimi to no Mirai Akatsuki no Goei (first one only, later ones are too hard for Second Level) Re: birth Colony Lost Azurite (this, Tiny Dungeon, and Draculius are probably the hardest games on this list) Fake Azure Arcology (direct link to the game above, and ditto) Kimi to Boku to Eden no Ringo Koiiro Soramoyou (famous for certain VN fanboys) Kimi to Boku to no Kishi no HIbi (recent release, fairly easy, good protag) Lunaris Filia (a vampire charage, for those who want some of that) Naka no Hito nado Inai!! Tokyo Hero Project Dracu-riot Sakura Tale Tojita Sekai no Tori Colony (this game is pretty hilarious, especially if you insist on seeing all of the loop ends before getting to the true end) Tsuki ni Yorisou, Otome no Sahou (similar to Koi no Canvas, in that the terms that will give you the most trouble are the technical ones - this time for sewing and clothing design) 12/30/2014 edit Zannen na Oretachi no Seishun Jijou Kimi no Tonari de Koishiteiru Sekai wo Sukuu Dake no Kantan na Shigoto Nanairo Reincarnation (borderline within this if you are familiar with the base concepts of youkai and ghosts as understood by the Japanese) Sakigake Generation Edit: This will be the last in my series of lists. I will edit them with additions occasionally, but I won't be making any new ones. Have fun yall.1 point -
A Little Good News Review
masster_auron reacted to littleshogun for a blog entry
Visual Novel Translation Status (04/23/2016) Well, sorry for cliche title this week, but it's quite confusing to made the title from 4 release this week and I'd find it hard to find fitting title if I tried to combine 2 releases. So, I'd decided to take one title (In this case Narcissu), using hanakatoba (Flower language) from iris (It was Narcissu title), and I'd decided to use 'A Little Good News' as review title this week. Oh, hanakatoba from iris mean good news which figured kinda fitting for this week release, and for the little you should knew why. Oh, about hate mail to Tay, my opinion that you should ignore them since I think it was your right to cover otome game even though I didn't wait for otome game release though. For ChuSingura, I think at this time it's sound fishy so it was not included there, although congratulations for gathering 5,000 at this time I guess. Anyway, here's another week for my VNTS commentary. As for the release, the most good news to me was definitely not Vega, the otome games, or the title inspiration itself. In fact, actually it was the third picture in VNTS Header Image. Although you may already knew, I'll give commentary below. Anyway, other than the good news itself and some from fan translation one, there's not much interesting news though, although Mangagamer will release the first translated Drama CD though by using the subbed video as the mean to understand the Drama CD. But for more interesting news from Mangagamer we must wait for another week. Sekai Project Okay, first Sekai managed to release Narcissu side episode, which the tile was 'A Little Iris'. As for translation progress, now KARAKARA was fully translated, Maitetsu was at 10.14%, and WEE was at 58.31%. I think with this kind of progress KARAKARA would be only short title, judging from the budget and the speed of translating, although once again don't underestimate the short VN. As for WEE, it's good for WEE fans because I'd heard that the 2nd game was ended in cliffhanger. Other than that, I think not much comment needed from Sekai segment. One last note, I just want to get Root Double status now. Although with our Decay already got his review copy, it should be not that long I guess. Fan Translation While the good news wasn't came from this section, this section actually had the most interesting progress as of this week. First, as usual Astral Air progress was stable and congratulations for reaching three quarter of the translation progress (Or to be exact the progress was at 75.20%). As for Ren's Aokana project, well let's see what kind of news that he'll bring this Monday, although I'm not surprised that the 2nd translation group was not be able to deliver translation patch itself, and the leader had to blame us to boot for his failure (Well, normally the people should be either not promising something ridiculous, or just work on it even if some people not supporting you). Bishoujo Mangekyou, let's said that the progress at this time was 59.75% (Actually 4 of 8 scripts fully translated and the 5th script was at 78% translation). For ToHeart 2, at this time it was 70% editied according to ittaku, and he was planning to release another beta patch at this week. For @Dergonu project, looks like you got one very good candidate for your TLC. Just ask him if you had doubt about his capability ie see his Youtube channel. Oh, another new project was established today, and it was Nijima Yuu project after he was out from Saga Planet. Check the project page here, and good luck @Hasa. Hopefully if this successful this will be the first Nijima Yuu work translated, because back there NatsuNagi translation was scam and troll project (Probably they made wordpress page after they drink 5,000 gallons of beer. Sorry, but I waited for this and only to find that it was false hope), and HatsuSaku was stalled (Probably because of real life thing) while the last progress recorded was at 19% iirc. JAST USA This time I'll give JAST USA a section, because this week actually the good news itself came from this. Okay, as for the round up progress, Flower was at 25% reediting from the bad translation, Schatten was 94% translated, Sonicomi was debugging, and Sweet Home was at 100% translated. For my comment about this, Sweet Home was 2007 production nukige, Schatten was another VN that the heroine had similarity as Saber from Fate franchise after Princess Waltz, and Flower was like first attempt that Innocent Gray made to step into all age, less gory and girls love VN. Honestly, other than Flower (Which actually still first part, so not excited so much) there's not much that I look forward from JAST translation progress. Finally, this is actually the good news. And as we knew Seinarukana was finally released this week. If we knew the history about VN Translation, Seinarukana here was definitely full of it. It was actually stated to be released back at 2012 in VNDB, only to be cancelled. It also had some drama, like 2 translators was gone missing and TL Wiki page for Seinarukana was abandoned back in 2013. Okay, maybe I'll tell the full story in Seinarukana thread later. But either way for the player who already got this, happy playing. That's all for my VNTS Review this week. Sorry if I miss some of the update here.1 point -

Character 1 is a yearly event, but yeah think of it as another convention. As for Yoshitsune, do I even need to answer xD Oh I forgot to answer your other question. If you mean the Kazuko shirt from eg-tops, then yes. I am "In this one" do you mean A-1? If so, it's Azumi, Sayaka, and Benkei. You should already know Azumi. Sayaka does not appear at all until this A-1, but Benkei does appear to the sequel (Majikoi S). A lot of new characters are introduced in Majikoi S though. As for the A Series, the only new one would be Cookie 4 IS. There's a lot of sub heroines that are brand new in the A series such as Bushou, all of Margit's underlings, and more. The main Heroines in Majikoi S would be: Margit, Kokoro, Tsubame, Monshiro, and Koyuki1 point -

I do understand your issues with standard SoL VNs, and they do get rather repetive I've myself have ad two burnouts because of these VNs, but the slope does get more smooth the more you play. With that in mind, KoiChoco is really average in terms of story art and pacing I think there's nothing really to win with reading KoiChoco, sadly However I'm extremely biased towards Michiru, so I'd say play that one Her route has some standard elements, but some irregular as well, it'sa nice balance of the two I very much loved her route and her herself How can you say no to this?1 point -

If they did, they're morons. Let me present people with a little diagram based on a survey of more than 30,000 respondents: Observe the ranking of the US, Italy, UK, Spain, Germany, France, and Australia. Now observe the ranking of Japan, and Korea. I keep telling people that the idea of the West 'not liking to read' was an argument with no basis in fact, and I'll keep pumping out figures to support that statement.1 point

Well, to be fair, fair market value is pretty subjective. Fair market value is wherever the meeting point between what the people selling are willing to take and the people buying are willing to spend. So work that was intended to be done for free anyway would logically have a lower value that work someone was paid for from the start. That said, the value of fan translations is more complex than simple time invested. Many fan translation projects build up fairly loyal fanbases, and some of those fanbases get quite big. I can't speak for anyone else, but when I heard Sekai Project brought in the fan translator for grisaia no kajitsu, that's what motivated me to buy it; because I already knew the quality would be high and trusted the translator. Each game itself also has a fan base, that can be appealed to or not based on other factors. If you license a game that has a fan translation, DMCA every fan-TL patch of it, and then don't do anything with it for 2 years, that fan base is likely to be somewhat miffed, and probably not likely to give you money. If you get it out quickly, more people are probably going to buy it. So buying an existing TL can greatly reduce the time from license to release. And since you start getting return on investment faster, you have less of your capital tied up for less time overall. Again, look at Sekai Project with Clannad. They raised money for it, with the fan-TLs heavily promoting the official project, and they got it out in a reasonable time frame. I don't know how their sales or doing or what their margin on it is, but I imagine they made a pretty hefty sum on it. On the topic as a whole, I don't much care one way or the other. Fan translations aren't going anywhere; there are just too many VNs for the three major publishers to work with, even if they hired every fan translator in sight. There are also Japanese companies that are never going to license their stuff to the west for whatever reason. But at the same time, I feel that if publishers are buying up big name fan-TL projects, that'll drive TLs to the more well known VNs in hopes of getting bought out, and away from the lesser known games that fewer people are willing to work on already. So it's a somewhat mixed bag.1 point

Peaceful School Life [Discussion]
FinalChaos reacted to ittaku for a topic
This wasn't always the case as it has taken 3 decades for Japanese 2D art forms to slowly gravitate towards that one time in life. Nowadays the bulk of anime, manga, light novels, and of course visual novels start with a protagonist who's 16 years old and in 2nd year high school (year 11). The reason it has happened is actually deep rooted in Japanese life and culture and multifactorial. In a nutshell, though, the main reason is that it is the one age of life they believe represents the greatest period of possibilities and potential. The bulk of people's working lives in Japan end up being in mundane office jobs with long hours and slave like conditions working for corporations with little regard for its workers as the so-called "salaryman". Once in employment, even if they have their own family and keep their circle of friends, they become largely faceless people in a sea of other faceless people and work with little scope for further change in their life. Pay is bad, hours are long, owning their own home is rarely affordable, conditions crowded, affording the time and money to have children and the thought of bringing children into a hard life prevents them having many kids etc. etc. etc. and basically it's pretty depressing really. When people are 16 in Japan, they are at a point in their lives where nothing is set in stone and absolutely every opportunity is yet to be explored and available. You are at the age where IQ is the absolute highest (if not relatively so) so capable of digesting the most complex concepts even if you look at them through immature unwise perspectives. Thus it's the age to explore relationships and new emotions for the first time through adult eyes. To experience and understand love, happiness, sorry, etc. They haven't decided their future careers but have been presented with enough information to get ideas for what direction they might want to take. They still have a year before all important college entrance examinations if they wish to take that direction so they are relatively free from time-constraining commitments. They're able to take on public roles and stand out in the world in (apparently) exciting events such as the tropeworthy school festival. On the sexual side, it's the legal age of consent, and the age people can get married. It's also the age where hormones are raging from both sexes and even if it's not conveyed in each character's personality, it is implied that they're all ready to hump like dogs in heat underneath whatever exterior persona they put on. In addition, every culture has an obsession with barely legal, and that is portrayed in all sexualised media, so it's mainstream to create stories surrounding that age, and in 2D they can then get more and more underage depending on how far they want to deviate from the mainstream since their laws allow such flexibility in drawn work for the time being. It's basically a clean slate for infinite possibilities in their eyes. That's not to say I think it's the only age they should portray myself, but I can at least see why they do it. The opening and ending you describe that is overused is basically starting the story defining that moment where all the possibilities are laid out and ending the story with choosing one happy direction to take it.1 point -

Kara no Shoujo: The Second Episode Licensed by Mangagamer Summary "To become my true self... I'll become one with them." Prewar-era Japan. Deep in the snowy mountains of northwestern Japan there exists a settlement called Hitogata, the Village of Dolls. On the night of the festival honoring the clay idol Hinna-sama, a girl is murdered. The villagers all blame Hinna-sama's curse. One outside the faith has joined in the festival of Hinna-sama, and brought the painful death of the curse down upon themself. October, 1957. Two years have passed since Kuchiki Touko's abduction from her hospital room. Tokisaka Reiji's younger sister saves a man who had tried to commit suicide. He, too, is the most recent victim of "Hinna-sama's curse". Reiji begins his investigation, clinging desperately to the hope that Touko can be saved, and at the same time, a strange religious group said to have dissolved six years ago begins to move again to put a certain plan into motion... The curse will be carried out, whether by the gods or by human hands. Ending Guideline / Suggested Route Order Kara no Shoujo: The Second Episode is a linear story with eleven endings. There are no individual heroine routes. There are seven gameover endings, four endings, and one true end. You have access to all gameover ends, but only one ending on your first playthrough. The other three endings and true ending can only be accessed upon getting this ending and starting your second+ playthrough. You also need to get Bad End #2 "To Search for Toko" to get True and Obsession Ends.
