  1. If it's supernatural, the only real choice is Bakemonogatari. On top of being really awesome, it even fulfills the usual saltiness quota.
  2. 8/10 That malicious expression is great
  3. Finished Ar Tonelico. It was a really enchanting experience. Ar Tonelico fulfilled all my expectations, much like in Ar nosurge, the story and setting are really interesting and the excellent characters make it even better. Now I'll just wait for the Ar Tonelico 2 retranslation project to finish before continuing with the series. I felt like playing some other older gems I've missed, so I started Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. I don't have much experience with other SMT titles than Persona, but the Press Turn battle system is still really satisfying and the story seems interesting as well.
  4. Song Magic in Ar nosurge is magical indeed and the soundtrack itself is pretty good as well.
  5. Majikoi S is pretty fun I will diligently do the S-after routes and new side routes, then go for the the Agave after. The few routes I did (Mayuzuki, Margit, Iyo) were pretty much only sex, so I'm expecting good things from the Agave after. Although DereMaru was pretty damn adorable... My only problem with Majikoi is still that the main girls are amazing characters, but pretty awful heroines. (Well, Wanko is okay I guess) Yamato not getting hooked up with one of them in Agave was one of the reasons why it was the best route in the first game.
  6. Speaking of fluff, the beginning of Ran's Finale was so syrupy fluff that I got the wrong kind of diabetes. Not nice kind you get from watching cute things. Osadai partly bores me to death with the mindless romcom stuff, and partly entertains me with the ridiculous jokes and references. Reading is pretty much only possible in small bursts. I don't know how many routes I can last.
  7. Ar Tonelico is good stuff, it has the same kind of feeling as Ar nosurge, exactly what I was looking for. The setting is pretty different, although some of the main themes like Song Magic are the same. Interesting story and good character development is still there, even though there's much less text in comparison. Main heroines still get random chat topics and you can explore their subconscious by diving, but supporting characters don't get as much love. The characters are still interesting and not as straightforward as you would initially imagine. The story design in Ar Tonelico is pretty intelligent as well, there's lots of subtle foreshadowing and they use all the character interaction to the fullest extent. The game itself is pretty well-aged for a PS2 game from 2006, none of the mechanics feel too dated, clunky or annoying. The combat is pretty easy for the most part, but from time to time it's nice to play RPGs where the combat never hinders your progression. I'm currently playing Aurica's route (the game has even different stories for the main girls!) and I have to say that the portrayal of her self esteem and insecurity issues is the best I've seen in a game. The type of character who is treated like she's the worst and she feels that way too, while actually she has hidden potential, is usually represented in a really awful and one sided way. Aurica is actually well developed and the game tackles these issues from many sides. Oh the poor girl...
  8. Here I am once again, this time with a recommendation for Sakasama no Patema
  9. I pretty much only read Osadai for the crazy references, the happy go lucky romcom is too much for me. I was pretty disappointed with Ell, she wasn't robotic (or spaceshippy?) enough. She appearances or behavior didn't form a big enough gap from humans, so she just seemed like a socially awkward little girl. Nonhuman heroines should have proper nonhuman charm points. I'll just hope her route makes things better. The ranking itself is clear as day: Puchin>Ran>Ell>Yukino
  10. Little surprisingly Ar nosurge ended up being one of the best games I've played this year. The characters and character development was the best part of Ar nosurge for me. And the game has tons of character development. There's mundane interaction in form of purification chats (about hundred different for the main characters, and half the amount for the other important characters), crafting dialog and field banter, there's some deeper insight to the characters personalities and inner struggles in Genometrics, and there's the main story to bring all this together. Another stand out part of Ar nosurge is the Song Magic. It's basically turning the power of emotions into miracles by singing, and the major Song Magics in the game are one of the best pieces of music I've heard in a video game. Part Japanese, part imaginary language, part what is essentially programming language for emotions, these songs are powerful and beautiful. Next up is Ar Tonelico, since I think I fell in love with the series.
  11. Because Osadai is what it is, I decided to do some research with it. Normally I can't help myself going for certain types of characters, no matter what. This time I decided to muster all my willpower to save the best girl (Putchin) last, and try to do the other routes first. We'll see what happens.
  12. Yeah, I kinda knew it was going to happen, but I didn't think that the censorship would be that bad. Well whatever, at least Monmusu was decent, so I'm content with that. Now that I have watched most of the summer anime, here's my watch list: Gangsta Classroom☆Crisis Gakkou Gurashi Rokka no Yuusha MonMusu GATE Akagami
  13. Prison School's censorship was weird. They censored most of the panty shots and stuff with obnoxious white light shafts, but not all of them. And then there was the classic mist in the bathhouse. I'll wait for the uncensored episodes before watching more, the awfully done censorship makes watching the show really annoying. The adaptation itself didn't seem that bad, maybe little rushed, but I can't really tell from one episode.
  14. I've been thinking about playing Spec Ops for the longest time, but never got around playing it. So far the VG club has done a good job making me play great games I have skipped. I'm all in for the RPG thing. Especially older (J)RPGs would be fun, since I haven't played them that much. And on my own I'll probably avoid them because of dated mechanics.
  15. Yeah, apart from the censorship it was pretty good. The charm is still there, MonMusu turned out to be way better than I expected. And the OP&ED are rocking as well
  16. Ar nosurge is way too much fun. I've spent most of my time doing crafting, purification rituals and genometrics. I love how you get a dialog/gag every time after crafting a new item, it makes crafting useless equipment fun. The chats during purification are really enjoyable as well. Overall I really like the character interaction in Ar nosurge. But the Genometrics are the most fun of part of the game. It's like Persona Social Links in drugs and little more over the top than that. I didn't think that diving to someone's unconsciousness would be so ridiculously fun. I mean... Just woah...
  17. http://www.siliconera.com/2015/07/02/skullgirls-developer-announces-action-rpg-indivisible/ Woah! Lab Zero Games are making an Action RPG. Seeing how well Skullgirls played and how good it looked, I can't help but to be little hyped.
  18. Ar nosurge Plus: Ode to an Unborn Star I read the Ciel nosurge summary out of curiosity (thanks Cyrille) and got hooked in to the Surge Concerto world. I really like the setting and the characters, and the power of emotional bonds and love in a little darker story is something I really enjoy. I'm really liking Ar nosurge from what little I have played, the combat is fun and and especially the diving to other people's unconsciousness seems great. I lost myself when I read about Tsun Kingdom and Dere Empire fighting against each other and Tsun-to-Dere translation machine in one of the characters mind.
  19. I finally finished Muv-Luv Alternative after taking a few months long break from it.
  20. Welcome! Also what a coincidence, Totalbiscuit's stories about Persona 4 Golden were also one of the reasons that made me interested in JRPGs, and that in turn helped me to get more into VNs. Nice to see someone with similar origin in weeb hobbies
