In my experience DkS 2 was even more painful to play without a shield than DkS 1 because there's so many enemies with cheap attack animations. Especially the horde bosses and some delayed hitboxes on attacks gave me cancer. With shield it was easier, but even more boring. The game almost forces you to do bit of both.

I'll leave the retro suggestions to pros. But for modern games, maybe horror, I want to try stuff I don't usually play. Point&Click or adventure games could be fine as well.

Dark Souls 1 is masterpiece. I've played that game so much and in so many different ways. Definitely one of my favorites. I used to be really good at this game, I did soul level 4 runs, owned at PvP and parried Anal Rondo archers for breakfast, but it's been a while. Dark Souls 2 is also a good game, but it lacks the soul that the first one had. The level design is not consistent and doesn't make sense, things are not connected how they should be and are just placed randomly. The enemy variety is better, but the overall placement and usage of enemies is cheaper. They like to ambush you with unpredictable hordes of enemies which is most of the cheap. Though the game mechanics are better, Dark Souls feels pretty clunky after playing DkS2.

That episode was fantastic. The chemistry between Kousaka and Kumiko was great to watch. I still can't get enough of Kumiko. I like her character so much, partly because it's not something you see very often and partly because it resembles mine.

I don't really like footsies, probably because I'm pretty bad and not very patient. Though I liked King of Fighters a bit and that has some some footsie elements, it's kind of in the middle ground between SF and anime games. I play on keyboard using hitbox-style setup. I tried using a controller, but that was just awful. Fight stick would be nice but it's kind of expensive for random playing. Maybe someday.

I love fighting games but suck badly, so casual fuwa tournament might be fun. Could motivate me to practice more. I have played Guilty Gear, Skullgirls and little Blazblue, as those were the games I could get on Pc. The fast paced anime-style is the stuff I like. As for the games to watch, I like P4A, Uniel, old Guilty Gear and little bit of Blazblue.

What were some of your favorite games as a kid?
Turnip Sensei replied to Shikomizue's topic in Gaming Talk
I completely forgot about that. All my friends played Age of Empires, but I loved Age of Mythology. I was huge mythology nerd when I was young, so that game was like a dream come true. Building a giant army of Fire Giants never gets old. -

There is so much recurring characters that it might feel weird at the times, but other than that you don't have to know the story of the previous ones. They are not linked that much. Though the choices you made in the previous games affects how the world state is in the beginning of the game, who lives and so on, so you are missing something on that front. Only thing that bugs me in Witcher 3 is that the alchemy system and skill trees are dumbed down from Witcher 2. Skill trees are mostly boring %-based buffs and you can down potions like in witcher 1, I miss the preparation aspect of the second game. I'm also utterly disappointed on their portrayal of saunas. - Why would there be two huge open doorways in the sauna, all the heat will escape. - True Nordlings go to sauna naked, not wearing underwear. -
In terms of quality and content, yes Kagome's route was the best. It was most extensive and showed light on the previous mysteries. Still the conclusion wasn't as specific as I would have wanted it to be. But still, my personal favorite is Hisoka's route. It hit on the right spots for me. It was the darkest and the characters felt most alive in that one. You also might have heard my praises for the ending, but that ending was the best I've read in a while.

Comedy Anime / Manga Recommendations

Tonari no Seki-kun is definitely worth to watch. I would also recommend Arakawa Under the Bridge. It's charming and really fun, though the weirdness might not work for everybody. -
Hollow Ataraxia is super enjoyable. My favorite Type-Moon game without a doubt. I also didn't care about the main plot that much, the slice of life stuff was too much fun, but I really liked the ending and the few scenes leading to it. There is scene which is unlocked after seeing everything else in the game. If you haven't seen a scene with Basset and Caren in Emiya household try searching for it. It could also be in the bonus scenes, not sure and can't check because I don't have the game at the moment.

I'm the kind of person who agonizes over the simplest choices and let things happen as they happen, so I might not save anyone. I don't think I could make myself choose who dies, and thus making the most selfish decision of all. At least no one would have to live without the others. Though in reality I'm a weak person and scared of dying, so I would most likely just save myself.

I initially passed Kekkai Sensen as generic action show without even watching a single episode, but after hearing Stray praising it so earnestly I had to try it. And it's super entertaining, now I regret not trying it earlier. I like the humor and the characters, but the best thing is how the show makes everybody look so cool and in a way that doesn't feel cheesy. I get the "Oh man this is cool" feels all the time.

*Pats head encouragingly* You have lots of great things awaiting before the third game. My Witcher 3 playthrough is already almost longer than what takes to beat the first two games once. I don't think I'm that far in the story either, I've played around and done side quest. This game is ridiculously huge. Also from what I've seen there's some really different consequences to your actions like in witcher 1&2. And because of that I feel like I'm going to have to play it few times through, like I did with the previous games, but I'm not sure if I ever have the time for it. And Skellige is probably the best location I've ever seen in a game. Those snowy peaks and icy cold open sea... -
Kagome's route was definitely the best, but I just couldn't read it in as long sessions anymore. Maybe saying my enthusiasm dropped is not the best expression, more like my drive to just read it in one sessions wasn't there. I took my time and enjoyed it more slowly than the others. Although I never really liked Kagome as a character, so that probably has something to with it. And after reading a VN for a week pretty much all the time, you get exhausted. Or at least I do.
-
My pace was one route per day, (common counts as one route) except two days for Mayuki and three for Kagome. My enthusiasm started dropping towards the end, so I couldn't just blast through the final route. Mayuki's route took two days because at first I was hesitant to read the loli route, so just read the intro and stopped. After I started reading it properly and noticed that it was actually good, I finished it in one sitting. Also I don't really care about such crude drinks as coffee, I mostly drink tea.

What Video Games Are You Playing Right Now?

I would say play Witcher 1&2 first and see if you can get Witcher 3 slightly cheaper later. It's really hard to go back to play the older ones after 3. Drowners are probably not inspired by kappas as Witcher monster are mostly throwbacks to old European folklore and tales. Even some of the story lines or side quest are twisted versions of old fairy tales. I'm super addicted to this game. I had nothing I needed to do today, so I played Witcher 3 for 15 hours. No regrets. -

I just finished the first area in Witcher 3. I thought it was kind of small and so I was slightly worried about what is going to come, but all my worries were blown away when I saw the size of the second map. It's ridiculously huge! I needed some time to get used to new combat, I died three times to the first encounter. (I'm playing on the second highest difficulty) I really like the new dodge move in top of the usual rolling, it makes combat much more fluid. But man, it's so awesome to play Witcher game again. -

More about the setting of the Land of no Night http://www.siliconera.com/2015/05/18/land-of-no-night-will-tell-the-story-of-two-girls-and-their-untold-love/ "The Land Without Night can’t be found on a regular map. This is the story of the two girls’ love which is dotted throughout history, a story of both life and battle not shared by anyone thereafter. This is a story based upon their true love, which is both sadder than anything else and yet more beautiful than the moon itself." I want this game so bad.
