  1. They aren't short on words. Whether they pass or not depends on a) whether it's got enough history in it and b ) whether it's of semi-decent quality. I haven't read it so I'm not implying anything btw.
  2. I’m not a fan of replacing the text with images, it would be a shame to lose all that wonderful prose. The thing about CGs, or BGs, or in fact sprites is that they are objective representations of the environment and action. Prose, on the other hand, is about character, personality, and perspective and this is especially the case in first person novels. The prose isn't just a description of the action, but is filled with the wonderful commentary, perspective, prejudices, personality, and thoughts of the narrator. For example: “In the far corner of Lady Selachii’s drawing-room a door closed discreetly and, in the comfortable smoking-room beyond, anonymous people sat down in leather armchairs and looked at one another expectantly.” “He turned. An attractive watchwoman behind him gave him a friendly smile. That was to say, her mouth turned up at the corners and all her teeth were visible.” These two passages were by Terry Pratchett and as you can see they contain nuances and tone you can’t describe through pictures alone. Because pictures are objective in nature, they show the world as they are. Authors show you how THEY see the world through their prose, a subjective experience that sometimes you just can’t replace.
  3. I suppose at the end of the day, Ace Attorney is technically considered an adventure game. An adventure game is one which combines a narrative, puzzles and exploration. On the up side there are plenty of them on the DS and 3DS. On the PC you can always start looking somewhere like here: http://www.gog.com/games/adventure##sort=bestselling&page=1 PS: Ace Attorney isn't unique. The only unique thing about it is that most people consider it a VN
  4. I used to not consider them VNs, but I've recognised that as a losing battle XD I have a new and improved (AKA compromise) definition system now
  5. Phoenix Wright is an adventure game which has a Visual Novel story telling method. That is, the gameplay conforms to that of an adventure game while the story elements conform to that of a visual novel. If you're looking for this sort of game, I wouldn't confine yourself to just the Japanese offerings. Broken Sword 5, for example:
  6. If I included "@Lewycool" in my signature, would Lewy receive notifications every time I post? Or does the term have to be in the post itself?
  7. It's a common opinion
  8. Sorry about the nonsense post, just wanted to test something. EDIT: Ah, posts made in the Arena of Death subforum count in your post-count, but not posts made in the Holding Cells.
  9. Not a problem The next person can't stand their work colleagues.
  10. They want to be bothered. They want to be PM'd expressing your desire to be a bother. For example, I've heard Tiag say he'd like to be bothered by PM on an hourly basis.....
  11. @Kosaki - Well, certain people were worried the task was too tough so I promised to help out if things were not entertaining (I.E. things weren't fun.) So I've been keeping an eye on things. If things had gotten TOO bad I also promised I'd help with the writing but you shouldn't be having a problem with the word count now that Zodai is around. You just have to feed him information. The following is my interpretation and will need to be clarified with Tay. While you are constrained by historical events, I think you can have fun with the facts. Maybe Fuwanovel is a town - nah, boring. Maybe a magical academy - done to death. What about a kingdom? The Majikoi TL group was not a TL group at all, but a group of like-minded mages formed to study the environmental effects of constant demonic portals summoned within close proximity of the town. The casting down into G&C could be an exile for crimes fabricated by a villain. Tay could be an evil arch-wizard, or a benign king manipulated by evil advisors. I've interpreted the challenge to be recording the events of history, but loosely enough to have fun with. Ourai and Tiag would still be having hot passionate sex though. Describing their loving caresses could easily eat up a few hundred valuable words. Entire paragraphs even...
  12. Tay will know Colekitt, he is the Archmage after all. @Zodai: All history is a story and the story of this thread is an epic one. From its humble origins as the Majikoi TL thread it has seen action (the divisions and fights it cause throughout the forums.) drama (its casting down into the G&C forum,) romance (Tiag x Ourai passionate hookup,) and tragedy (translator hospitalised.) When Tay said he didn't mind being the Dark Lord of the story, I inferred that he didn't mind being made the bad guy in a fantastically over the top way. But it will probably still need to reflect the history of the thread. That's just my take on it.
  13. Posts made in the Chatter forum aren't counted in your post-count.
  14. Lewy loves this change and feels that having the option of closing those panels is preventing some users from experiencing the full glory of the new forum page. He wants to know if you can remove the 'X' button Serious mode: I'm for the suggestion Eclipsed made.
  15. Yeah, was never a fan of the route system incorporated in VNs. Imo of all the subcategories of Interactive Storytelling, VNs are by far the worst in how they utilise choices. My thoughts on choices in VNs revolve more around character freedom, and having the world reacting to your choices. Western studios practice the “choice and consequence” mechanic, which is far more my thing. I like to see real consequences to my choices instead of a couple of lines of flavour dialogue and flags which dictate which version of the story (A, B, C, or D) a user reads. I’d like to see the consequences of my actions affect my environment (I lost my job, I got thrown out of my apartment, my buddy died.) I’d like to see actual, meaningful options for what I can do. – I could fight the guy, try and use diplomacy, try and use cunning behind the scenes, run and hide. Some Western studios do this well but I can’t think of many Japanese VN’s which give you that option. I think VNs have a set formula which they don't want to break away from, and I think partly because of this the genre has stagnated.
