  1. I'll play it for the plot, but I won't say no to the boobs!
  2. Heh, chucked a few lines from my TL project into it for fun. The first line came out pretty much perfect, which startled me, but then the next 5 were TLed as completely incomprehensible mush. Also tried a few lines with some accents, strange speech patterns and what not, and it completely failed on those. (Pretty much saw that coming.) It's cool that they are improving their software, but yeah, I seriously doubt it will ever be possible to fully replace translators with these things, period. There is simply too many issues since they can't think like people. They can't understand context, which is crucial in Japanese. They also can't decipher slang and such things, don't understand sarcasm and so on.
  3. Yeeeah, figured as much. Would have been cool, but this might be a bit far fetched for a VN. I'll probably just do some more research on the Edo period and read through ChuSinGura at some point. (At the moment, I have only studied Japanese history up to year 1580 or so, which makes my knowledge of periods after that more limited. I figure when it comes to stories like these, having some actual knowledge of the historical period will be a great help, even though this is fiction. It also just makes it all the more interesting, knowing a bit of what actually went down around that time and what not.) Anyways, thanks a lot of all the recommendations so far! Several of them look like they fit perfectly.
  4. That is pretty shiny! Thanks! Going to assume this is chuuni based off the VNDB page. Thanks.
  5. Recently I have been trying to focus primarily on reading untranslated VNs, as I combine them with my studies to keep my Japanese on point, without driving myself crazy by simply staring at text books all day. I'm currently looking for a few recommendations, as my backlog, although huge, is quite heavily dominated by simple slice of life/ romance/ drama stuff, that uses the same vocabulary and grammar I have seen a million times before. I want to try to explore some other types of fiction I'm not very used to reading in Japanese, without jumping into too difficult stuff and burning myself out right away. (Such as Dies Irae and what not, which would probably drive me crazy at my current state.) But, finding the right VNs for this isn't the easiest thing to do on my own, so I figured I'd ask some of the experienced people on this forum. So, what I'm looking for is: A VN, (or several,) in these settings that use specific terms linked to their genre without being overly difficult. I'd prefer it if the games are mainly serious, plot related, and not overly moege/ slice of life dominated, unless it really does fit despite not being an uber serious game. (I mean, I love moege, but that's not really what I'm looking for right now.) - Modern/ futuristic sci-fi setting/ something that deals heavily with either technology, computers, robots, A.I, logical time travel (so not superpowers, but something steins;gate-like), physics, etc. This might be kind of vague, sorry if that makes this one a bit hard. - An old-time fantasy setting. (Like, kings, queens, knights, stuff like that.) - Old-time Japan, before the Edo period. (I already have ChuSinGura 46+1 installed, and plan on reading that eventually, but I'd like someting that takes place historically before this, preferably nothing after 1500.) - Chuuni. (Something that isn't too hard. Keep in mind, currently my only experience with chuuni in JP is reading the koiken otome Fandisk...) - Something crime solving / police / detective related. (Already reading Hakoniwa Logic, which I'm enjoying a lot, but it is a bit on the moege side for it to qualify here, at least so far, so something a bit more serious would be nice.) It would be nice if you could specify which one of these genres the game(s) you link are in. Thanks in advance guys!
  6. KOKO!!!  :conspiracy:

    In Kirika route land:

No matter what, I'll find the answer to this mystery. (Case/ situation. Thought mystery sounded cooler.)

    Meanwhile, in Koko route land:

  7. I love going back to stories I enjoyed in the past to read them again. Not just for VNs, but for books and other stuff as well. Therefore it isn't impossible for me to honestly just play everything I have played up until now once more at some point. But for the specific games I'd probably want to go through again the most as of right now, I'd say these are on the top of that list: - Nurse Love Addiction (actually did start playing this again not too long ago, this time in Japanese to experience the copletely original version.) - Kimi e Okuru, Sora no Hana (Whenever I feel like crying like a little girl again) - Kimihane Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi Suru Ikkagetsu (One of the first VNs I read completely in Japanese, where I actually felt like I understood 100% of what I read.) - Grisaia no Kajitsu (Cuz Yuuji is love, Yuuji is life.) - Tokage no Shippo Kiri (This thing messed with my head so much. I freaking loved every second of it, lol.) - Kono oozora + the fandisk (One of my first VNs, so I just love the crap out of it.) - Majikoi (My stomach hurt from laughing several times during this. Gotta play that again.)
  8. True, we should probably just leave it there Now, let's just hope this new game is handled better than the old one, with a better TL and no censorship. (Though, I have a bad feeling it won't be. )
  9. I'm sure there was a small amount of time there, before people actually knew how insanely this game was butchered where it sold, yeah. I still don't think any of the real sucess this game has seen has anything at all to do with Moenovel's "brilliant sale's tactics." (AKA marketing eroge for 12 year olds.) (Hell, I'm personally responsible for 3 steam sales of this monster.) 1 for myself (to play with the restoration patch of course,) and 2 as gifts for my friends, (with a link to the patch attatched.) Exactly. I bet there is plenty of people who quite honestly either didn't know the game was butchered beyond belief when they bought it, or who simply bought the Japanese version to wait it out for the patch, as they know it's coming.
  10. There really is no way to pull out the numbers and show how many people bought the game simply because the existence of the fan patch, but I'd bet it is the primary bulk of them. Even on steam, they are highly discredited, and talks about the restoration patch is 90% of the discussions there. All other communities, like Fuwanovel for instance, does the same. It wasn't Moenovel's success, it was the fact that fans were able to somehow salvage their release that made it a hit.
  11. Uhh, actually, loads of VN localizations have both 18+ releases and steam releases, hitting both audiences. (Mangagamer and steam, Denpasoft and Sekai project, etc.) The only thing Moenovel did was release the all-ages version only, and not the 18+ one as well. It wasn't really a tactical move, it was a weird move. That's kind of the point. Though, thanks to the fan-patched version, a good amount of people still buy this censored monstrosity, as they can at least patch back the original scenes. This has nothing to do with Moenovel's brilliant ideas though.
  12. I bought DaCapo II in 2016, so I'm one of those people! Granted, it wasn't the third one, but still! (Why? Cuz I wanted it and stuff... )
  13. Really? Can you link the specific game this is from? I couldn't find heroines that fits this picture anywhere on VNDB from them, but maybe I just suck at looking.
  14. I kinda get what they were thinking, but the issue is that they chose an EROGE and then censored the crap out of it. If they were speaking generally about visual novels, and picked an all-ages game, I'd be onboard. I mean, making VNs more well known is important! Trying to actually change who an eroge should be marketed for in general is absurd. I really don't know what went through their heads with that one. 12 year old girls shouldn't be their primary target with a game that literally has hours worth of sex scenes in it... An all-ages version on the side is a clever way to sell the game to more customers. No 18+ version at all is a clever way to literally lose the customers who would originally be interested in the game. I truly hope they understand this now, and go about this next game in a different manner. The other issue is the translation of course, and one can only hope their TL team is completely new, or that the old team has learned a lot since the last game was done.
  15. Hmm, I don't recognize those characters... Might actually be a new game, unless we are all missing something very obvious.
  16. Yeah, just about 2/ 2 and a half years ago I had a completely different dream, which was: I wanted to become a game designer/ programmer. I have always been interested in games in general, as well as making/ developing things, however I have never been very good at math. (Which would turn out to be the reason this dream crashed and burned ) I found out that in order to get into a university and study computer science, which is the recommended education in Norway for game designers, I needed to pass 2 hard math exams. (I don't know how the school systems are in other countries, but in Norway we have math "levels." They use letters, but I'll just replace them with numbers in case it isn't an international kind of thing.) Basically, I had barely managed to pass my "math-1 exam," literally the easiest there is. But, I had to pass 2 more exams, which were 2 entire levels over the math exam I had taken before. So, "math-3 and math-4" I guess. I spent over half a year of my life studying for the first test, but ended up failing it, which left me really depressed for a while. This was during my summer vacation, so I had about 2 months to think about what I wanted to do next, before starting school again. At that point I realized that there was no way I'd be able to actually get those math grades any time soon, and my dream was kinda broken. Instead, I decided to pursue my hobbies, and at the time, manga, light novels and anime were all pretty big hobbies of mine. This is all Japanese media, and so, I just kinda said to myself jokingly, "what about learning Japanese? Haha..." At first I thought that was a pretty strange thing to do, as it would take ages, and I didn't even have any jobs in mind at the time. But, after thinking about it a bit, I decided: "you know what? What the hell!" And, I just started. After a year of self studying, I began to actually look for official places to study, and after a while I enrolled in Oslo university, and have been going there since. (My goal now is to become a professional translator, and I couldn't be more comfortable and happy with my choice.) In retrospect, I'm actually really happy I did fail that math exam, as if I didn't, I would probably have spent who knows how many years pursuing something that I honestly don't think is fit for me. Sure, I like games, but thinking about it now, I really can't see myself actually working with stuff like that on a daily basis. Translation on the other hand, is something I'm really passionate about.
  17. H-Hello my name is Derg, n-nice to meet you
  18. I tend to change mine monthly. Do you hate me Fred?
  19. I used this a couple of times when I needed some characters for my book. http://www.springhole.net/writing_roleplaying_randomators/japanesenames.htm You are probably better off just using actual names and just mixing them a bit to get something unique, randomizing them with this, or at least checking that the name does indeed exist on some webiste. I mean, I doubt people would actually care much about it if the names were a bit strange, (half of the people reading whatever this is might not know Japanese, and won't notice if the name is odd in the first place,) but if you want accuracy and what not, then its better to be safe than sorry.
  20. Ophis (Ouroboros) and The Great Red (You know, since we're posting dragons )
  21. *Choice*

    Investigate with Kirika

    Investigate with Koko

"Anyways, thank you so much for choosing me!"

... I hate to break this to you Koko, but the only reason I chose you is because Kirika's route is literally locked until I finish parts of yours. This is literally my only choice, besides getting a 100% save and potentially getting spoiled to the story from that.

    Damn route lock system! :pyaa:

GIVE MOAR KIRIKA NOAW PLZ! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

  22. Great review Kaguya. I'm quite hyped for this game now. Will definitely pick it up sometime soon.
  23. Yeah, that will be pretty nice. Doing the same with Muv-luv too. Just gotta wait for the patch to drop for that one. I'd read them in Japanese, but... my lazy side prefers English TLs when available, lol.
  24. Am I the only person here who hasn't actually played the game before? I feel like such a scrub.
