My actual reaction when I found out this wasn't a troll thread:
-
Bring back Nana or riot!
-
That's some legit matrix shit right there
-
Ey, welcome, nice to meet you!
-
Guh, if I literally lose my potential translation jobs in the future to a machine, I will riot
-
Yeah. Sadly, languages are rarely that straight forward and machine like in actual use, so the poor machine TL-san gets a lot more hate than he should, as he does a lot of mistakes with very basic conversational lines most of the time. Maybe some day they will start making these things "smarter", so that they can understand when there is slang / other unique forms used in the sentences they are translating, making them a lot more accurate. (This would of course put translators out of their jobs, so please don't do this scientist-san )
-
That is true, though in this case, google translate was the actual topic of conversation, which is why I specifically mentioned that. It has to be said though, that most machine TLs do have many issues with parsing. Even the tiniest amount of slang or unique speech patterns will break them, even the best ones. They simply can't think like people.

Don't know if anyone recommended it yet, but if you just want a loli nukige, this is pretty darn great: https://vndb.org/v16511

Hey, welcome to the forum, nice to meet you

But I mean, why would someone who knows Japanese do this?... If you run into some vocabulary you don't fully understand, you are better off looking it up on a Japanese grammar site that can explain the definition and usage of the grammar to fully understand it. I don't see how using a machine TL to romanize it would help. (Not to mention that the parsing done by machine TLers like google translate is terrible, so a lot of the time you'll probably just get the incorrect result anyways.) I really don't think using google translate for anything but absolute basic stuff like "hello" is at all worth it in any language tbh.
-
Yeah, that is the confusing part. Some lines are completely fine, and others are... well, that. I can't possibly imagine a way for a human being to actually produce something like that line though. It clearly has machine TL written all over it. Maybe they had a bunch of TLers, and one was quite simply not sure how he was going to TL his lines and he just chucked them into google translate and called it a day? That then raises the question, why was it not corrected by one of the better translators later on? ... I really want to know what went on during the translation of this game lol. Must have been one hell of a mess. Words to live by.
-
I'm afraid that was most likely google translate-san, and seeing as he is a machine and all, I don't think he feels pride. I like how the editor was just like, "yup, this is fine. I won't question this at all." and just let it stay in the TL.

True. I do hate cropped CGs as well. What I usually do with games that have cropped CGs is view the original next to the cropped game whenever I play it, so I can see how it used to be as well. Kasshoku no Sei Senshi Aisha's HD version did the same.
-
Again, I'm aware of this. What I'm saying is, we are waiting for that to be done, so we can play the game in its original state. I still don't really get what the point of this being brought up here in the first place was. My original comment was: It is literally supposed to be a part of the original game.
-
?? Yes, they have to port it back in order to revert it to the original. I never said they didn't have to do porting. The fact that this is a port doesn't change the fact that Muv Luv originally released as an 18+ game with H-scenes, and that we want that original version, not a censored one with altered content.
-
Mmm, they said that people who backed the project will get the patch for free, regardless of backer level. (And they had a 1$ tier.) So I wouldn't think they would set the price too high, when people technically get it for 1$. But I haven't seen any talk about the price yet, so we just have to wait and see on that front tbh. I totally get your frustration and I agree, it's strange to charge money for something that is supposed to be a part of the game originally, but from a business standpoint, I guess it makes sense for them to make money where they can.

Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa o Hirogete Cruise Sign
Dergonu replied to mitchhamilton's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Akari does not have any H. Cruise sign is a PSvita release originally, meaning it's all-ages already. There was never an H-scene in her route. Her route was added in Cruise Sign, which is a complete release of the game on PSvita with: The entire base game (H-scenes removed), the entire fandisk (H-scenes removed) and the new content unique for the release, which is new epilogue scenarios and a new route: Akari's. About her relationship with the friend, I think that either ended throughout the game, or they simply make a new scenario where that never happened. That's what fandisks are, after all. (Keep in mind, Cruise Sign is technically just the fandisk, with a bit more content and the base game attatched to it.) The fanTL of the fandisk is nearly dead, or already dead. I wouldn't get your hopes up for that being released at all tbh. But hey, you never know. (If we are thinking of the same one.) -
Yeah. Let's hope they pick up an all-ages game, so no one has to get angry at them for censorship, and that they have a new translator who is a bit better than the last one. (Or, maybe the last one who has simply improved over the 3 last years ) I'm a bit torn, as I'd like to see a TL of something like Miagete Goran, but... I really don't want it to be done by Moenovel, lol.
-
The biggest part was Ageha's route indeed, the rest had most of the writing close-ish to the original I believe, though they did do some of that in those as well. Another big issue was their translation itself. Pabloc posted a few examples in a thread a while back, (forgot which one it was sadly, so I don't have them,) of some very obvious mistakes that they did when TLing which drastically changed the meaning of the sentences. (As in, completely changing the subject and topic in the sentence, making it sound like something else entierly is being said.) It's a pretty long game, so chances are that happened a decent amount through the scripts, which would make the already "bad" work even worse. Over the top censorship, re-writing of the scripts (even if it's minor, this is absurd), and a fairly bad TL overall. Not exactly ideal. But hey, who knows, maybe they replaced their entire staff for this new project? (#Wishful thinking.)

Welcome to the forum About the avatars, I just prefer having pictures of characters I like instead of myself. I change mine about once a month or so to a different character. No big reason for not using myself really, I just prefer characters from VNs I've read.

Correct!

Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa o Hirogete Cruise Sign
Dergonu replied to mitchhamilton's topic in Visual Novel Talk
Yeah, PSvita ports are never 18+, so the H-scenes weren't removed by Moenovel. (The port is in fact not affiliated with them in any way, as that is a port of the JP base game with new content, something that was never ever TLed, like the Akari route and new scenarios.) Your hope lies in a fan TLer doing it, or Moenovel doing it. (Remember that Cruise sign is a port of the main game + Flight Diary All-ages + the new content in Akari's route and some short scenarios, so it's not a quick job.) -
Nope! (That does fit though.)
