  1. It might just be the fact that you are rereading it and have time to pay attention to more of the details. I didn't feel the same way as you when I read this visual novel and I felt that the characters did break out of their molds in parts of the story. Hidden Content And even though people are predictable and formulaic by nature, we are still able to show moments spontaneity that exceed these expectations. Angelic Howl (Amane route) spoilers This is reinforced casually throughout most of the game by Yuuji's narration. He routinely classifies every character as a specific type and uses this to explain and predict their actions, and sometimes manipulate them. Failure to do so is chalked up to his lack of experience, and not the chaotic nature of humanity. I'm mostly just bothered because the message is "accept the role laid out for you, don't try to fight it." That the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. The heroine routes can be seen as Yuuji bringing the heroines back in line, reigning in their eccentric behavior and making them fit into their roles in society instead of allowing them to be unique. Makina could have remained as she was and supported herself through the sale of her sculptures, which she occasionally earned good money from, even as a total amatuer. But instead she was encouraged to speak and behave more "normally" and get a normal job. And this is a good thing, according to the game. While I think it's a pretty fucking shit philosophy, lol. These thoughts just suddenly hit me tonight as I was going through Angelic Howl during my reread, and I couldn't stop getting bothered by it. I thought maybe I could just get it off my chest and forget about it but now I'm just even more bothered by it and have started unprovoked ranting. Great job, me!
  2. I've been rereading this over the last month or so, with some other VNs mixed in as well. I still like it as much as I used to, but there's something bothering me about it. The idea that people are predictable and formulaic by nature runs through the entire work as an undercurrent. When you read between the lines, it's suggested that all humans lives are simple puzzles with a predetermined set of rules and anyone with sufficient knowledge and experience have the key to solving these puzzles. You see it in great detail in Angelic Howl, and to a lesser extent in Yuuji's narration. All people fit within certain molds that dictate all of their actions and reactions. The message they try to tell isn't to break out of these molds and to lead a life of free will, but to accept that we have no individuality and instead exploit the formulas that make up these molds to find the solutions for our problems. Even if this is true in part, I still don't like being told this, lol. And I will never accept that this is the full truth. I also wonder if this is something other people got out of it or if I'm off my rocker here.
  3. I like how he tagged the non-spoilery part and left the spoilery part untagged. Well, the good news is that it's an incorrect spoiler based on some misinterpretations.
  4. Truly the most mind-bending scene in all of euphoria. I also thought about that one for a good while.
  5. Bringing out the characters' personalities is something Koestl is rather good at:
  6. There are degrees, you know... I don't know about you, but in my book a standard r-rated decapitation scene is on a slightly different level than someone opening up the skull of a girl and fucking her directly in the brain, displayed in full gratuitous detail. Slightly. Just a smidge different.
  7. Corpse Party isn't guro, as there's no sex. The violence must be eroticized in some way for it to be classified as "guro." This kind of game... as fringe as my fetishes can get sometimes I don't think they will ever develop into anything like this. It goes way too far. But I suppose some people are into this kind of thing, so eh, whatever. To each their own.
  8. Do not embed NSFW images, even in spoiler tags. Your browser still downloads them.
  9. "The height of disgusting"? That sounds like a challenge! More seriously, lots of stuff is much worse. Black Cyc has many games that make this one look tame, and that's still toned down for 'mass market' (of ero-games). The real nasty stuff, like Eien to natta Rusuban, or Kasshoku no Sei Senshi Aisha - that's niche, and that's very different. In...teresting.... Most disguisting TL'd VN you know? Have you already forgotten Starless? I'll admit, I have an iron stomach. There was nothing about euphoria I found even slightly "disgusting." I actually enjoyed a pleasant meal or two during some of the more extreme scenes. Maybe I'm not a fair judge of these things, lol. I blame it on growing up during the height of internet shock culture in the early 2000s.
  10. In terms of overall series release order, Inganock is second, Sharnoth is third, and Gahkthun is sixth. But yeah, the other three aren't translated yet.
  11. Tay did say recently that we'll be adding some 200 VNs/patches to the front page database before the end of the year. I don't really know who's handling that. Not that this would solve all of our problems or anything. Tay seems to be having internet problems right now so I can't get in touch with him. He missed posting this week's VNTS as a result. I'll end up doing that myself shortly. I kinda feel bad for talking a big game about the fuwazette and then posting like one article a week. I think I over-estimated how much there would be to write about. There could probably be a lot of potential posts for OELVNs, but then that would take up like 80% of the blog content and I really don't like those enough to make that happen, lol.
  12. Some, but not all of these games border on utsuge. But from what I can tell, Gahkthun isn't particularly heavy.
  13. Uhh, yeah, I'm pretty well aware. It should be pretty obvious from my other posts in the thread. I just found that bit in particular an especially amusing divergence. Perhaps because I share in the common american's worshipping of our lord and savior Benjamin Franklin.
  14. Wow, this sounds like one disastrous adaptation, lol. I have no idea how to interpret this since I have never watched the anime and never will, but it sounds nothing like the VN's ending except in some really arbitrary ways.
  15. Ehh.... so I was a little off. Still... soon? I am forever the optimist.
  16. I would at the very least suggest people read Rinne's route before the Kanae route as it opens a different set of mysteries than the Nemu route. Kanae's route is the true route and has all of the answers, so reading that first will render every other route redundant.
  17. A whole lot of kickstarters fizzle out after like twelve hours. Narcissu's drop was pretty drastic as well. You shouldn't be deceived by Kicktraq's charts if you're using those for a reference, since depending on when the project went live, most of the "day 2" sales listed will happen in the first 24 hours.
  18. Its success basically means that a PC version is even less likely. There's not much incentive now, since this is selling like gangbusters.
  19. Sekien no Inganock is a good translated VN with a gloomy setting.
  20. Ask your mom who her favorite heroine is for us.
  21. At the very least, thank you for bringing the connection between these two releases to light. The VNDB entries were kinda messed up, so I fixed them.
  22. The demo is out now: http://blog.mangagamer.org/2015/12/10/gahkthun-of-the-golden-lightning-demo-now-available/ Oh, yes, all of us remember from our history books how Nikola Tesla famously studied under The Lightning Lord Benjamin Franklin.
  23. Suggestion for the upcoming streams: put a facecam in the corner of the screen, but instead of your real face make it this: http://store.steampowered.com/app/420680/
  24. Don't worry guys, I'm sure all that was cut was the pass that would have removed the "desu"s.
  25. Most eroge tend to have an abundance of irresponsible sex practices and an overzealous approach to marriage. Are Clochette games really that much more heavy-handed?
