  1. Hoshizora no Memoria is the single most overrated visual novel in the west. Although I probably wouldn't be quite this harsh, I can fully get behind this review.
  2. While we're at it, the front site revamp still isn't done. C'mon Tay, get to it, chop chop! ... I'm sure there is no one more acutely aware of the things yet to be fixed or implemented than Tay is. No need to constantly remind him.
  3. "In a vacuum" is what new players will be experiencing it in. Yes, stuff happens in MLE that foreshadows MLA but it doesn't retroactively make it good and when going in blind it will still be shit no matter what.
  4. I don't think Muv Luv is going to be the savior some are hoping for. How many people are going to hear of the massive kickstarter success for this dark mecha series, and decide to try it out on a lark? They'll proceed to boot up Muv-Luv Extra and I think you can imagine how that will go down. You need to have tolerance for some real bullshit in order to get through that. edit: Sakura Spirit is a better game than Muv Luv Extra. I genuinely believe that. MLE is that bad.
  5. Eh? I'd say Tsubame's route was a pretty normal eroge route with a typical character-focused story. After the split in her route it gets a bit sex heavy, but that's basically after the story resolves itself anyways and amounts to two built-in after stories.
  6. Maybe I'm weird, but I'd kind of call Eden*'s ending a happy one. At the very least, it was a very romantic one. The two mains were as happy as they could possibly be at the very end.
  7. Then make your browser window narrower. Creating a bunch of empty space in the margins for everyone isn't the solution.
  8. All VNs stretch to some extent when going into a full screen if their windowed resolution is lower than your monitor's resolution. That's just how it works, they don't ever re-render the assets at a higher resolution. What usually happens is screen smoothing of some fashion. Usually in-built by your graphics card's setting. It's possible that Hoshimemo uses some method that prevents that. If it's a "borderless windowed" style fullscreen, they'll have to do it in software. Look around the game settings to see if there's any filtering/smoothing options.
  9. Hoshimemo is a 4:3 game. If your game is taking up your full screen space then it is indeed being stretched. That might have to do with your monitor's and/or your graphics card's scaling options, as I don't recall there being any in-game settings for that, but maybe I'm wrong on that.
  10. You can blame Kaguya for this one.
  11. They say it's going to be a 60 hour VN. I can't picture it.
  12. Some of them probably don't, actually. Anyways, their sales have been on a steady decline so either people are learning about the better VNs out there and ditching the Sakura series, or more likely, they're getting bored of it and dropping the series and VNs in general.
  13. Thoughts on the preview button: It doesn't seem to interpret BBcode so it doesn't show anything that the wysiwyg editor isn't already showing, nor does it show you what your post will look like in the forums. To put it bluntly, it's completely pointless. And although Nosebleed says that img codes don't work, they've worked for me. I'm not sure what the issue is.
  14. And case 1-4 isn't even the best in the original trilogy.

Never recommend Hinatabokko to anyone who reads VNs in english, that's practically a crime to do so. It has a literally incomprehensible translation. ANYWAYS, on to actual suggestions, there's Kaoru from Ayakashibito. It's a cool action chuunige and the Kaoru route is pretty decent. Amane from Konosora. The translation here is bad, too, but it's at least better than Hinatabokko (edit: I should say there's a retranslation in progress, so you might want to wait for that). It's a relatively lighthearted game from the makers of Koisuru but is longer and has a little bit more story. Ran from Osadai is the oneesan type that kind of fits your description. It's a pretty comical and absurd game.
  16. Do we have webm support yet? If not, I'd like to suggest the ability to embed webms. webm is the standard embeddable video format on the web these days. http://s1.webmshare.com/DG80M.webm edit: and maybe mp4s if you're feeling spicy. I don't know if this is in the realm of today's activities, but the only other complaint I have is that you can't change the size of youtube embeds. They always stretch to the full width of the post, which is kind of crazy.
  17. Is that the case? Bandwidth is expensive, there are a lot of people who use kissanime, and although the site is lousy with ads with a premium service, I can't understand how they'd stay afloat if they hosted the videos themselves. And the youtube player isn't publicly available, is it? edit: I could very well be wrong about this. It's just that there are so many 720p+ high bitrate videos and so many people using the site, and the speed is so good, it would surprise me if it was all self-hosted. But maybe it is. That's kind of besides the point, anyways. The site is pirating a whole lot of Funimation videos.
  18. No. Kissanime isn't a fansub group but a piracy site that uploads subbed anime (often official subs) to secret private youtube accounts that can't be acted against for some reason, maybe due to how the embedding works.
  19. Well, good news for you is that neither School Days nor Kira Kira are on this list. Although I can understand your criticism for School Days, what about the Kira Kira characters rub you the wrong way? Is it just an aesthetic thing?
  20. I think Neon Indian's new album is making me a chillwave fan.
  21. The grimdark dystopian future is finally here, but it's not nearly as rad as we all thought it would be. Instead of cyborgs, flying cars, and smokestacks perpetually shooting jets of fire, it's lawyers, impenetrable legal codes, and people being threatened with fines for having an opinion on the internet.
  22. lol, no, that's not going to happen. Clannad is only going to perform a fraction as well as Sakura Spirit did, it's practically guaranteed.
  23. Someone for the love of god please get those pants and post pictures. In public.
  24. There's a fine line between interest and obsession, and obsessions are almost always unhealthy to hold. This goes for Japanese culture as well. I have some obsessive aspects of my personality but thankfully I've been able to avoid going full weab thus far.
  25. Citra is progressing at a steady pace. http://citra-emu.org/
